Final Fight appreciation thread B******!!!!!!!!

isamu

OMFG HOLY MOTHER OF MARY IN HEAVEN I CANT BELIEVE IT WTF WHERE ARE MY SEDATIVES AAAAHHH
I have been playing the GBA version of Final Fight a lot recently. I really like this port. It's got some neat unlockables and to me, the graphics are IDENTICAL to the arcade version! The only thing is that the diffuculty is ramped beyond belief over the arcade version! At "hard", it's nearly impossible to get past the train station stage.

So anyway who is your favorite, most useful character? Which one would you say, has the best advantage?

A buddy of mine came over today and we played via linked up. I was surprised to see he unlocked Akuma and Megaman as hidden characters. I asked him how to do it he said you gotta beat the game with zero continues, beat it without getting any of the food, and kill all the Andres with only lead pipes.

Also how would you rank all the home console ports of FF in order of identicalism to the arcade? Which one, right after the GBA version, is the closest?

Also which is better between the following...

1)Final Fight vs Vigilante

2)Final Fight vs Streets of Rage

3)Final Fight vs Beats of Rage

4)Final Fight vs The Punisher

5)Final Fight vs Double Dragon

6)Final Fight vs Bad Dudes

7)Final Fight vs Combat Tribes

8)Final Fight vs Violent Storm

9)Final Fight vs Senguku

10)Final Fight vs that shitty-ass 3D beat-em for the Ps1

11)Final Fight vs F-ZeroGX? :p

im going to shit on your thread with this picture. I apologize in advance.

This thread couldn't have come at a better time...

In Final Fight, did it annoy any of you that the enemy portrait picture / health bar would change rapidly when you hit multiple enemies in quick succession?

No?

DAMN FUCKING STRAIGHT IT DIDN'T.

Sorry. I'm just tired of having this argument...

Er, Double Rastan?

And on topic...I played through Final Fight arcade the other night with a buddy, and the game still rocks hard. Ten years ago I was more in the Streets of Rage camp, since SoR > FF SNES, but there's no denying Final Fight done right is full of ass kicking splendour. The game still holds up really well today.

Damnit, this thread has convinced me to get Final Fight One GBA during lunch. What unlockables are there?

I love Final Fight. It's a lot more visceral than SoR. Better graphics, more "oomph" to the combat, MUCH better sound effects and voices. But SoR, with it's blindingly amazing Yuzo Koshiro soundtrack and much more developed gameplay was a better game in the end, IMHO. There's room for both. :)

The graphics are very close to the arcade only problem is the censorship which fucking annoys me everytime those replacements for poison and roxy show up.

Final Fight brings back a lot of memories for me since it was one of the first arcade games I saw when I finally returned to Tokyo after a few years of abscence. I still love this game to date (nostalgia factored in of course).

Some Final Fight trivia (most probably already know but for the sake of this thread ):

-The enemy "Poison" is a girl in the US version, a guy posed as a girl in the Jpn version.
-Jessica is in her underwear when she is kidnapped in the arcade version, she is wearing a red dress in the console version.
-The original title during development was "Street Fighter '89" but was later changed to the current title.

Anyone else with a trivia?

Crap, I forgot that there was a GBA version of Final Fight. I need that.

I was just playing this on SNES last week, actually. It was one of my favorite arcade games of all time (beat em ups were always so much more fun at an arcade)

It was also one of the best reasons to own a Sega CD, IMHO.

Sega-CD version was the best, by far. Perfect port, 2 player and awesome sound.

I would not go so far as to call it perfect, but barring the X68000 version, the Sega CD ver was definitely the best of the inferior 16 bit ports.

FF was a great old-school game but tough to play after the greatness that was Streets of Rage... especially SOR2.

Also Double Dragon had so much more going on, even with more subtle graphics, that ranks second :)

Isamu:

haha, GBA Final Fight One is graphically *not* even *almost* identical to the arcade :lol

don't make me break out comparison screens..... opps, too late! :lol

^GBA^ ...identical to the arcade, MY ASS

final4.png

^Arcade^........................................................................................................ ^ Sharp X68000 computer^

X68000 is a 16-bit Japanese computer like the Amiga but WAY better better. it has the only Fight Fight that can appear to look identical to the arcade (less enemies on screen at once but still identical graphics)

assuming he doesnt have the real arcade machine, or the ROM + MAME or any CPS1 emu, Isamu will need to purchase a copy of Capcom Classics Collection for PS2, Xbox or Gamecube, to have an arcade-identical Final Fight :)

No Roxy / Poison - no fucking sale!

I will give props to the arcade Final Fight, but fuck the Nintendo friendly console versions. Half of the reward of that game was punching Poison / Roxy and watching her underboobs pop out. >:|

Ah well - the only good thing to come of Nintendo's emasculation of the series is the confusion amongst fans, and ultimately Capcom that lead to gobs and gobs of swell futanari Poison art. ^_^

as far as ranking home versions (console, computer, handheld) of Final Fight in closeness, it works out like this:

1.) Sharp X68000
2.) Sega CD
3.) GBA
4.) SNES
5.) everything else (Amiga, etc) is way behind.

the GBA is right now number 3, and soon to be number 4 because when Capcom Classic Collection comes out, it will knock the Sharp X68000 off the top because it'll probably be a totally 100% identical port or emulation of the arcade, with the same number of enemies on-screen at once as the arcade.

as far as GBA vs Sega CD .... Sega CD is closer because it has more of the graphic detail from the arcade (not all of it) and most of the animation. the GBA version lacks many details because it is a souped up port of the SNES version. however, GBA version does have more colors than the SegaCD version, but that isnt enough to put it over the SegaCD. and of course, X68000 beats all other home versions because it is fucking identical in graphics to the arcade. only difference is, less enemies on screen at once, as I said, but graphics animation and sound are closer than any other version.

I'm sorry midnightguy but I think you are simply lying! There is no way that the arcade version looks better than the GBA version! Even Sho Nuff said so! The GBA version shits all over the arcade original! Just look at the detail mang! It's obvious you acually doctored those screenies to make the original look better!

isamu said:
what game is that?
HEh.. Punisher Arcade.

And Reilly. Zangief openly stole the Piledriver from Haggar and added his russian spin to it.

It's great. It's was pretty much the one Sega CD game I missed playing when my system broke. Now I have the arcade version.

I think Haggar is best. His spalsh is good and the piledriver does a ton of damage. Plus it's just funny how the mayor is walking around beating people up.

What the holy christ!? When did I ever say that the GBA FF looked the same as the arcade!? Coz it doesn't!

you serious man? :lol

IF Final Fight One GBA looks as good or better than the arcade to *you* then you need to get your eyes checked, dude. :)

you need to understand that the GBA graphics chip is not on the same level as Capcom CPS1 in 2D graphical goodness.

GBA vs CPS1

CPU: ARM7 16 MHz vs 68000 @ 10 MHz + Z80 about the same
sprites: 128 vs 256 .......CPS1 wins
resolution: 240x160 vs 384 x 224 ......CPS1 wins
colors displayable on screen: 256-512 vs 2048-4096 ........ CPS1 wins
RAM / VRAM fucking bet you CPS1 wins on this too... dont have the numbers handy

GBA Final Fight One is an extended port of the SNES FF. all the missing content from SNES was added back into the GBA version (Industrial Level, 2-player, all 3 main characters) -BUT- the graphics and animation are mostly the same as the SNES/SFC versions.

so, what makes the GBA FF *not* as good as the arcade?

*lower resolution (play GBA FF on your TV with Gamecube GBA Player to make it a monitor vs monitor comparison)

*less colors on screen

*less animation in the sprites

*missing or changed background details

...there are probably a few things I'm forgetting....

oh but wait, I must be LYING... whatever.

It's a real shame though, as GBA could likely handle a near identical port (outside resolution obviously). Oh well, at least we got Alpha Guy/Cody, tons of settings/options and some cheese cutscenes. :)

thank you, oh sensible and wise Jarrod :) I agree, the GBA could've done a CLOSER conversion of FF than what it got. not arcade-identical, but good enough to the point where people wouldn't really care. I'm looking forward to Capcom Classics Collection for Final Fight, and the first-ever arcade port of Forgotten Worlds to a home console. the MD/Genesis, TurboDuo versions of FW were console-specific reprogrammings, as was any other home version of FW.

Agreed. Same goes for the lazy SSF2TX GBA port... just look at Crawfish's masterful SFZ3U port or even Atomic Planet's near perfect (outside bugs/slowdown) Puzzle Fighter port. GBA could handle CPS1/2 games much better than Final Fight or SSF2X would lead us to believe.

I'm eager to see how SNK's Metal Slug 1 port turns out too.

Me too. CCC sounds fantastic, even better now that Atomic Planet are off the project. :)
