• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

Final Guild Wars beta starts today!

Yep. Looking forward to getting some time in on the final beta too. Sounds like they've tweaked a lot of things since last month, and only a few weeks until launch now!

I was coming to remind people... I just played for about 15 minutes, but can already see a host of improvements. The new UI is just fantastic, and they have really tweaked the missions.

Will see you all inside. My user name is Nefi the Nifty.

OK, I just started a new RolePlaying character to play through some of the early missions and stuff.

Are there any henchmen anywhere in the starting area of Ascalon? (I'm still in the area where Gwen is first seen). I really don't feel like dealing with other real-life players this weekend :lol .

Argh, I'm so pissed off at the local fucking EB. I went in to pre-order the game today, and they were out of the preorder packages. I ask them to get some more from their distributors, but they try to tell me that it's all out. Fuck them. Last time I buy jackshit from those assholes.

Also, if anyone has an extra guest key after Ijoel gets one, could you please PM it to me? I'm dying to try it out. :D

I am pretty sure that guest keys will not work on this final beta. I remember seeing something that this fina beta is more of a preview "reward" for those who are purchasing the game, although I may be wrong.

Argh, if that's true, then I hate fucking EB even more. I'm going in there tomorrow and demanding that they get me a preorder package. I want my cheap-ass Ithas Bow too! :lol

Hmm, by the way, for those of you who've already entered your beta keys... mind telling me whether it's just numbers, just letters, or a mix of both? >=D

Well, there's no Circuit City or Best Buys around here in Quebec, but I could check the local Wal-Mart. If anyone in the Montreal area knows of any computer/software stores that still have them, I'd really appreciate being told. :)

Well, I had the opportunity to spend a few hours with the latest GW build last night, and had a lot of fun. The new UI is much better, nicely streamlined, and very customizable. Also, the new chat filters are nice too, and all in all the game is obvioiusly shaping up nicely for it's release in a few weeks. I'd guess we'll get a gold announcement early this week.

Anyeone else get a chance to play? What do you think? I'll say one thing, this game is sure nice to look at. Beautiful graphics indeed.

Oh, and I read in another forum that Target in many areas stll have tons of the pre-order boxes sitting on the shelves. Might be a place to check if you have Target up in Canuck-Land. ;)

I still wish they'd implement some kind of cursort-based target-selector bound to some keys on the keyboard. Clicking on distant targets or fast moving targets or selecting a specific target out of a group is still a pain in the butt.

Fucking GAF... I'm about to be roped into another MMO style game! I can't afford this! and I don't mean the piddling 15$ a month that this game doesn't charge!

Been playing a bit on and off since last night. Too bad they seem to have removed henchmen and are forcing people to use template characters even if you just want to go out and do it yourself sort of farming, at least i can't find the henchmen anyway... Pretty nice improvements though the quests seem a bit disorienting and unorganized lol. They really need to improve the quest log too. Different coloring would help at least distinguish which one is finished... Party member need different color dots on the radar too... Overall still feels like beta but I guess that's just how these kind of games are these days...

I'm curious about this game, but the fact that they don't let potential buyers participate seems pretty counterproductive in my opinion.

Its one of the latest trends in MMO Beta Testing.

SOE wouldn't let you beta test EQ2 unless you were a subscriber to another one of their MMOs. They decided that beta testing was too much like giving a free trial away and they only want participants who are serious about buying the game.

At first glance it seems counter-productive, but it makes sense from the designer's standpoint because you don't want to give away free trials to people that never had any intention of buying the game and the only reason they're in the beta is to act like a jackass and then trash the game on every message board they can find.

Well, I suppose I can understand that rationale. With the release date so close, I get the impression this isn't really a beta anymore though. Do most MMORPGs not offer free trials upon their release?

Just created my character, and now the game is downloading 4000 new files! Even the initial installation only had like 1500 files to down!

No, most MMORPG's don't offer free trials upon release, unles you mean the free month you get when you buy the game. A number of the have offered free trials later in their lifespan to try to draw players back or entice new ones.

When I bought into the Guild Wars beta buy picking up the Pre-Order pack, I figured,it's only $5 and if I decide I don't like it, I can always transfer that $5 to another game down the line. You're really not out anything.

No one offers that deal in my area, bummer. I would of liked to try the game to see if I'd buy it when it comes out.

Ferrio was my savior providing me with a key.

I'll be playing tonight. I created a female elementalist.

The art in this game is just outstanding.

Henchmen are still around. I have been adventuring around with my mega group of henchmen laying waste to the countryside.

A couple of pics to show the difference with bloom lighting. Ignore the jpg compression artifacts.

I feel sorry for your character... her poor neck/shoulders.

Anyways =), the game DOES look very damn cool... only 4% you say? Hmmm...

IJoel - If you think the game rocks now... Just wait until you finish the first main sotry mission. The game will blow you away.

Christ. I installed the game... and have been playing since.

Bu-bye WoW. Hello Guild Wars!!

I LOVE IT!

Just had a GOOD time with 3 other folks. Got up to 8th level. My character's name is Mejiel Theece, if anyone's interested. E/Mo Lv8.

Uhh... American servers.

So, how do I hire me some henchmen?

Been playing primarily PvP trying to figure out what to build for later on instead of using their template characters. Love all these random wars just rush to me cuz I'm an Ele. :lol Welcome to anti-war hell I say to them. :D Pickup party for PvP sucks but it's a good time to test it because during this weekend you can unlock all abilities using their template characters. Fun time. Can't wait to have a real guild and play various PvP modes upon release.

the game rocks but a quick question:

how do i see my party members on the map?
me and my friends are used to wow where you can see dots where your party is but there doesn't seem to be any function for this in guild wars, very strange. we get lost all the time and people are constantly yelling out where they are :/

I have a problem with this too, and when u play with some people and everyone needs to get back to a town with the maptravel, u have to leave the party.

Hope they can fix this issues.

Oh, my dude can do some serious disco :lol

Damn damn damn. :) My friend introduced me to this 2 days ago. I was unimpressed by the lack of GAF coverage, but here it is and here I am. :( Anyone care to share a key to a MMORPG n00b? :lol

jakershaker: For now I think you can only see your party's moving dots on the mini map AFAIK... In earlier beta, the party member is at least different color on mini map but now u can't even distinguish between npc and party member. It's most likely a bug right now. Usually having a party leader draws on the minimap indicate where the party is headed helps a lot from party member getting lost.
