Final Guild Wars beta starts today!

yep, the game keeps getting better and better. Once you move into Post-Searing Ascalon, it gets a lot tougher too, with death penalties in effect, and creatures that are a bitch to kill. The game scales nicely for you level and party size as well. Can't wait to see what they have in store when the game actually launches.

And yes, the art work is simply incredible. There are times where I just stop to take it all in. Just amazing.

jakershaker: For now I think you can only see your party's moving dots on the mini map AFAIK... In earlier beta, the party member is at least different color on mini map but now u can't even distinguish between npc and party member. It's most likely a bug right now. Usually having a party leader draws on the minimap indicate where the party is headed helps a lot from party member getting lost.

Pretty stupid if you ask me. Being able to see your partymembers should be fixed asap.

Another thing, is this game as soloable as WoW? I'm having some problems where mobs just jump out of nowhere and kills my War/Mo in an instant. The game itelf seems much harder and maybe soloing just isn't recommended, or maybe i'm missing something?

Whats the deal with the death penalty too? Do i have to return to the city for it to vanish or does it wear off after a coupe of mins?

---Edit---

I moved to the next Ascalon at lv 5, maybe that was a mistake?

The death penalty will wear off when you kill mobs or return to the city. My problem has been forgetting that the death penalty is there and getting a little too over confident. Two or three death penalties are not a good thing1 :lol

Since you can still hire henchmen in the game as others have suggested, so yea for most part it's still fairly soloable, although I'm basing my pve experience with earlier beta, I can't imagine that has changed much. However in earlier beta, the hecnhmen are stuck at level 15 so in more difficult missions they weren't nearly as useful. That said, the best soloer is still Necro using undead. I remember soloing dragons all by myself while my teammates were dead lying on ground. :lol

Is there any reason to stick with just one profession? If I decide to get a secondary profession does that in any way weaken my primary one?

Only in that you'll be splitting your attribute allocations and skill points on more attributes and skills. And of course spending more gold on skills. As far as I can tell, anyway.

BTW, I started post-searing Ascalon at level 6, and I've already done about 7 or 8 quests (now level 8) without too much trouble.

No reason not to choose a secondary profession in this game. It does not make your primary profession weaker. However you don't have full benefits from a secondary profession. You have access to all its skills but the attributes is maxed out at 12 and you can only wear primary profession equipments.

You will be buying new content every 6 months or whatever if you want to stay competitive. Or... continue PvE content.

Hahahah, yeah. Hence the *.

I believe they will release periodic expansions and charge one time fees for 'em.

Just guessing here... But I imaigne it'd be like 20-30 bucks if it's roughly evey 6 months deal. Could be up to full game price if it's like a year between expansion... I haven't heard much about what they are planning to do.

Also, the developers are obviously creating a network to handle the traffic, but it's dfferent from other MMORPG's in the sense that most of the quest stuff is in instanced zones that are handled directly to your party. The only time you are on their servers is in the match making areas or staging areas for the larger quests. So when you log in, and you're in a town building a party, buying some items, skills etc. You're on their servers, but once you head out into the hunting zones, quest areas, etc., you are no longer on their servers and playing between you and your party. This helps bring down overhead of their network dramatically and should help them with costs.

The plan right now is to release expansions every few months, although one of the touted characteristics of their engine is that things can be changed on the fly with small downloads, so we should see regular changes to the world anyway.

Was anyone there for the end of the last beta? At mid-night they had a whole bunch of those Gwen girls show up. She's the annoying little girl in Lake Side County. When ever someone touched her, she would turn into a walking time bomb, blowing up everything in site and sending characters to their doom. Wonder what they'll have in store for the end of this beta.

I was there, but I missed that. Where was this?

I was in the city, taking snapshots of the 'naked' dance party. :lol

Actually, that was a bit before the end. I was in the middle of a quest when it actually kicked me out.

Hahahaha, I was in that district.

awww... I just got kicked. It must be over. It was really fun this weekend... I just had a neato mission in which the prince was in my party... Cool stuff.

The Exploding Gwen was across all the districts in the non-instanced zones. Apparently one Gwen would spawn into many as she killed off the PC's. I haven't heard if anything went on this time yet.

Edit: Update on the ending of Beta. I wasn't there to see it, but I've read on the Guild Wars boards that at the end of beta there was a fireworks display in the sky, followed by gold raining down, and then an attack by some big nasty worms (Think Dune) killing everything in site. From what I gather it was even more fun then "Gwenageddon" from the end of the last one. :) Judging from screenshots, there was also an attack of Lawn Gnomes
