Also, the developers are obviously creating a network to handle the traffic, but it's dfferent from other MMORPG's in the sense that most of the quest stuff is in instanced zones that are handled directly to your party. The only time you are on their servers is in the match making areas or staging areas for the larger quests. So when you log in, and you're in a town building a party, buying some items, skills etc. You're on their servers, but once you head out into the hunting zones, quest areas, etc., you are no longer on their servers and playing between you and your party. This helps bring down overhead of their network dramatically and should help them with costs.
The plan right now is to release expansions every few months, although one of the touted characteristics of their engine is that things can be changed on the fly with small downloads, so we should see regular changes to the world anyway.
Was anyone there for the end of the last beta? At mid-night they had a whole bunch of those Gwen girls show up. She's the annoying little girl in Lake Side County. When ever someone touched her, she would turn into a walking time bomb, blowing up everything in site and sending characters to their doom. Wonder what they'll have in store for the end of this beta.
