Fire Emblem (Series) Question

So, I'm going to be finishing a job the weekend prior to when Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance comes out. I wanted to finish the first US GBA title before then but that isn't going to happen, and the second one that came out a few months back is also a lost cause at this point. Especially when you consider that I don't even own it. So, my question is this:

Am I going to be lost story-wise with the GameCube installment or are the stories and characters relatively disconnected a la Final Fantasy? Thanks.

FE PoR has nothing to do with the others FE storywise.

I have a question too. What's up with enemies appearing on the map *and* moving / attacking within the same turn in FE6? That would be fine if the game didn't have permanent deaths but gang attacking a character with 4 new enemies without any warning is ridiculous.

I just beat FE8 on hard mode with relative ease (except for the ghost ship) and without a lot of leveling up (I think I fought a couple tower levels early in the game) and to go from that to getting fucked in the 4th chapter of FE6...

Tomorrow's going to be a good day, at least.

Are the two GBA titles connected in any way? Are any for that matter?

FE7(the first FE released here, the one for GBA) was the prequel to FE6 which never came to the States. FE8 or Fire Emblem Sacred Stones is set in whole new universe nothing to do with the rest of the Fire Emblems.

So Path of Radiance is even an all new universe from that second GBA game now? Or same universe but different story?

Basically all 3 american games are in three totally seperate universes. You have nothing to worry about.

Okay at the risk of annoying the piss out of you that happen to be in the know, let me ask some more. Why do you think they decided to approach the game creation this way? I don't see the benefit for such a story and character-driven game to start with a completely clean slate for each new development endeavor.

Or is it just me?

becuase like demi said, it's Fire Emblem... how could you not buy it?

Well from what I know (which isn't much) the past iterations before the GBA titles have all been linked together, no? Marth, Roy and Co... right?

Well, as some people already mentioned, most/all of the previous games were sequels/prequels of some sort, so they probably just didn't feel like doing that right now.

And IIRC, some people were saying that FE8 (the latest GBA one) is actually set in the same universe as FE6&7, but it's a different continent (so there's no frame of reference to even guess what year it is).

I think for the GameCube game they decided to do the "animal morphing" thing, which sort of requires that they invent a new universe with it's own new physics.
