Well, I don't want to rain on your parade, but I don't get the mindless hype behind this release. Compared to a fresh Opera installation the latest Firefox feels like its retarded little brother. There are dozens and dozens of feature that are default in Opera you don't initially have available in FF. Also Opera is way more customizable - if you know what you're doing.

Only problem with Opera is that its latest release is one big fuckup and there are just way too many sites not working properly. Even if it's not Opera's fault it's annoying. Plus Opera has problems with Java, so FF still has its right to exist as a kind of backup browser for these sites. But besides that? Surfing with FF is not nearly as smooth and fun and easygoing as with Opera.

So why is Firefox and each release so popular with the public? It's almost scary. Probably because it's so very mainstream, doesn't demand much from its user and still has this "independent" image that's so important to its users.
Firefox also has a really great community that creates all those "extra" features you are complaining about. I can tell you like being different, but Firefox gets the job done better than Opera.

Oh, and I do blame Opera for not displaying sites properly.

How comes IRAN have got 180k hits when India has only got 59k and China only has 140k

As evil as Bush tells people Iran is, they do have more freedom when it comes to the Internet, and the country is richer than India and China on average, so more people have computers and internet.

The Africa stats are sad.

So uh, I've just converted into a Firefox believer (thanks to the foxmarks plugin really)....and I wanna know if there's such an add-on that allows different user modes (like a login system with different program preferences & settings saved for each user)

In FF2, the Download Manager window had a button at the bottom to open up the folder you direct your downloads to, any way to enable this in FF3? >.>

Okay, for people worried about their porn in the search bar:

Tools > Options > Privacy > Click off "Keep my history"

In the address bar, type about:config > scroll down to browser.urlbar.maxRichResults and change it to 0.

Looks like you dragged the image and it got 'stuck' on the screen. Refreshing the page should have fixed it.

XD

It's a feature of Firefox 3. I just want to turn it off because it means you can't drag images into other applications.

Goto a Flash Video page like at My Site or ToTheGame, put your mouse over the video and then scroll the page.

It won't let you scroll. I noticed that it's not listed in the feature list, but it is a special addition for Firefox 3 users and is provided free of charge.

I'm glad they added that in finally. Will allow proper scrolling inside of flash now.

For people worrying about the awesomebar, please invest in the "Distrust" extension or similar one next time for those more private moments of websurfing :D

Can anyone help me change the URL bar? When I click the drop-down, I want it to show, for example, my 30 most visited sites, with the most visited at the top. Right now it's just showing recent sites, like a history, though I may never want to go there again.

I also don't want each site entry to take so much space, I'd prefer either just the url or the url beside the site name, rather then beneath it.

I could probably live with the larger space though, if I have to, it's the most visited sites bit I really want changed.

Just read about this: type 'about:robots' in the address bar.
I love the button :lol

So good.

I just noticed it deleted a load of my bookmarks...but not all of them. Why's it done that? It seems to have copied the top 9 from Firefox 2 and the rest are gone. Can I get them back? I can't remember all of them and do it myself.

They put them in a folder probably called "Unsorted Bookmarks"

Guy on another forum says:

SOLUTION; Crisis averted! If this happens to you, go to appdata, roaming, mozilla, profile, bookmarkbackups and import that into Firefox 3.

What's appdata? How do I get to it?

EDIT: Nevermind, found it.

This is ridiculous, even if you clear the history from the Clear Private Data option, everything in the address bar stays there. There's no way to get rid of it.

Who the fuck came up with this....

Just doing it manually, opened the back up and it's all there. Maybe there's a one click way to do it, would save time, but at least I haven't lost anything.

If you still want to know the way to do it:

Click on 'Organize Bookmarks' underneath Bookmarks,

click on Import and Backup and 'Import HTML',

choose 'From an HTML file' and select the 'Bookmarks.html' file that you should have found in the bookmarkbackups folder.

I'm still getting an inordinate number of crashes, as I have been with RC1 and RC2. FF2 didn't have these kind of problems on my laptop and the configuration hasn't changed in any other way since I first migrated from FF2 to FF3RC1. No new add-ons/extensions or plug-ins.

I'll probably just try a clean start with FF3 shortly, but has anyone else experienced something similar and found another way to deal with it? Thanks.

I had a similar issue, but I don't know that the cause is the same. When I installed FF3 into the main "Mozilla Firefox" directory, rather than using the bookmarks from Firefox 2, it used the version of bookmarks that it made a copy of for the Firefox 3 beta/RC I messed with a month ago in a different directory. Result: ate new bookmarks from the last month.

Importing from that auto-HTML bookmarks backup took care of things, though.

The 'H' stands for hentai.
After using this for a couple of moments, I was pleasantly surprised that the browser runs so quickly now.

It also has a smaller footprint :D

Anyone know if there is away to make FF3vista look/act like the FF3 OSX? I know they have incorporated OS themes now....

when i installed FF3 it replaced my bookmarks with some really old ones, but to get them back just go into your profile folder and get them (.html file)

So what theme are you guys using with 3.0? I've been using graymodern with 2.0 but it's not compatible yet it seems. I have been browsing the theme archive at mozilla, but everything i see just looks horrible. (I'm on XP, btw)

How do people still not get that firefox comes bare bones because that was the point of it in the first place.

Simple browser for normal users + extensions for advanced users.

For me the only thing it isn't clearing are bookmarked sites that I've visited.

In Hardy Heron it's installed already, just update it through the Update Manager...

Yeah, Russia and Canada are the two countries I always underestimate, because the globe curve makes them look smaller. But when you see a flat map of the countries, you realise they go on forever. :D

This is hilarious :lol

Even when changed to 0, the bar still shows 1 result. Is there a way of deactivating it all together?

Ah, thanks, that will safe me my usual method of setting my date forward 2 days and at the end of the session simply purging the cache and the history of it :D
