Actually, I think a lot of Linux downloads don't count, since they probably use their favorite distro's package manager and they also have the option of grabing the source from CVS (though they probably use the tarball if they want source).

I don't think they've reported on this recently, but right after Firefox 1.0 was released they said that about 50% of downloaders used IE.

You know, at least when Linux users make cracks about how many times you have to reboot Windows, they're true.

Sooner or later Firefox will be the spam/spyware target......then we must move on to WaterWhale!
You know, somewhere along the line actual program code counts for something too. Some fortresses aren't considered strong merely because they haven't been attacked as much. :p

Hey laugh all you want, but this is why I'm a Mac user. Have yet to worry about a virus.

Am I the only person that is surprised that there is no joke about dating tips in this thread? (considering the thread's maker)

you should still be using firefox on your mac because it is badical to the max.

I use both. Safari is the chick, Firefox is the dude. They married, had babies, and make a dandy fine browser couple.

This is great! I was about to post a thread asking what market penetration FF had achieved, I was expecting 2% at the most....so, 10 million...what does that come out to?

edit:
Statistics Are Often Misleading

You cannot - as a web developer - rely only on statistics. Statistics can often be misleading.

Global averages may not always be relevant to your web site. Different sites attract different audiences. Some web sites attract professional developers using professional hardware, other sites attract hobbyists using older low spec computers.

Also be aware that many stats may have an incomplete or faulty browser detection. It is quite common by many web stats report programs, not to detect new browsers like Opera and Netscape 6 or 7 from the web log.

(The statistics above are extracted from W3Schools' log-files, but we are also monitoring other sources around the Internet to assure the quality of these figures)

I loved FF on my pc, but for some reason it's slow as molasses on my mac. I miss middle-clicks and adblocker.

Same for me. I think all Morzilla variants are like that on the Mac. I only use Firefox when a site won't load properly on Safari.

They either don't know what they are doing, or aren't happy with the distribution they chose.

My Comp Sci professor, amazingly, uses Firefox. Also, my female roomate who are your average girl too. I see some potential with Firefox in the future... until Longhorn =P

I've never actually reinstalled any Linux dist. I have however loaded multiple dists on one computer, or scrounged up an older one to load a dist.
