Firewatch |OT| With Me

Pre-play hypotheses are fucking bullshit. Most don't want to read them because they can ruin the game in their own way. Once you read something, it's stuck in your head and if it actually happens in the game, the impact is lessened by it.

This happened to me with Castlevania: LoS. Some dude predicted the ending in some thread months before the release. Then I knew that was exactly what was going to happen and it kinda ruined the endings impact.

So anyone who likes to hypothesize about the story can spoiler tag it because most don't want to read that stuff. They're in some cases almost as bad as spoilers.

Same thing with this game and
the supernatural stuff
people are asking. Many have asked and many have answered something with spoiler tags. Now I don't know if that stuff happens but if it does, I know to expect it and the impact is lessened. Great.
Well, pre-play hypotheses certainly don't belong in a spoiler thread, so I'm not sure what your solution is. If you're that sensitive to discussion about games, I'm not sure what good being in an OT is going to do you.
Honestly i've never seen people spoiler tag pre-play hypothesis/discussions in any major story driven game...even RPGs.
Yup.

That small, wow. Expected a lot more tbh. Still, excited to play this tmrw.

Like with The Witness, the small size is probably mostly because of the relatively flat shading which means textures take up very little space. And remember that Skyrim on Xbox 360 only was 3.8 gigabytes.

Yup.

Hypotheses can be easily spoiler tagged. Like this:

"Next is pure speculation:
Your hypothesis here
"

Wouldn't hurt to do this and people who don't want to read these don't have to. We might still want to discuss the game in other ways.

When is this supposed to unlock? Is it really noon on release day EST? Steam still says ~12 hours

It is due to unlock around the time Steam typically updates their storefront for the day, yes.

Alcoholikaust has a few extra time zones listed here.

I can't pre order or find this anywhere in the PS Store yet.

Is this correct?

*edit*... seems everyone is asking this question, sorry about that. Look on the bright side though, we all just really want this game!

I think the PlayStation releases will do their best to go up around the time of the PC releases, which is about 10-11 hours from now. But for all I know they'll go up while the team's asleep.

Not exactly the same, but I hate movie reviews where they vocally declare they are going to avoid spoilers, but then talk around certain plot points so carefully that you can almost tell what they've left out and are therefore spoiled.

Probably waiting until Wednesday to play this (UK time) to get a decent run at it.

So question for those who have their hands on this already:

Would you recommend playing this in a few sessions, or experiencing the whole story in one go?
I'm deciding whether to just play [trophy spoilers]
a session for each day, separated by the trophies
or just marathon the whole game.

Very. I wanted to play it in one sitting so won't be doing that now. Not very good timing.

I'm still able to do just that, but still, sucks for those with less flexible lives.

I wish games could just go live at midnight in each region. Why on release day with the game pre-loaded do I have to wait till 6pm? If I want to play this in one sitting it's gonna be a late finish.

For some games it's so that the game launches during the working hours for the developers, which seems to be the case for this game.

Although it doesn't make sense at other times when for instance the developers are based in EU but launch according to US times lol.

PS store updates are typically around 2:30-3PM PST.

Grace Chen's (Sr. Director, PlayStation Store) blog posts go up around then.

Edit: It is also confirmed to be tomorrow.

Fuck, I just realized this means the European store will get it tomorrow. I really wish they had offered the PS4 users the chance to preload the game, and start playing it the same time the PC users can. This somewhat sours the experience for me.

Definitely in one session.

The EU store doesn't really have a fixed update day any more, games can and do get released on all days of the week. It should be up today.

If 3pm PST is correct, the launch time is 1am Wednesday, 12 hours from now, here in Finland. A preloadable game with 9th February release date would have been playable 13 hours ago. That's the issue I'm having, on top of being prepared to start playing the game this evening.

I'll probably buy day one but i'm going to wait playing for a while (got The Witness, Unravel, Gravity Rush and The adventures of Pip to keep me busy) to see if a patch can improve performance on PS4.

I actually disagree! We had our session into two days. It felt good to have a little bit of a break to sit and think about what was going on before the last two days.

Oh no, differing opinions!! Now I'm lost. :P

From your perspective, is a session per day too fragmented? Would you recommend 2-3 sittings?

Care to elaborate? I though stuttering and dips were synonymous.

Game runs at 30 and framerate drops to 25 or 20 or whatever, basically it slows down but never completely goes to zero...that's dips. This usually happens if the scene is demanding to render.

Game runs at 30, and then freezes/chugs for a tiny fraction of a second because for that tiny fraction of a second there are zero frames...that's stuttering. This only happens when the engine is problematic.

Maybe I've spent too much time in the OT but this is 100% common practice for the stuff in there (future books, movies, episodes, etc)

Especially once we're past the point where someone could potentially already have finished the thing but is only pretending to speculate for some stupid reason (and yes, this is incredibly common with things like Game of Thrones)
