Firewatch |OT| With Me

I'm assuming I'll be able to get at least 30 fps at all times with a 970 and a 2500K at max settings?

5870k + r9 380 was getting 30+ fos at ultra settings, 1080p. So from a GPU perspective a 970 should be ok. Don't know how CPU heavy it is

Cool. I wouldn't imagine it would be, but we'll see. Seems silly to quibble over the performance of a game like this unless it's really bad, though.

I'm curious about this game, but unless it has something creepy/weird going on I think I might get bored.

If every decision doesn't branch the entire thing into a completely different game, they don't matter! /gamers

SOMA and its choices, and Oxenfree's dialogue choices are, I feel, more mature directions for dialogue/action choices to go. Not everything needs to be a branching tree; SOMA's choices felt really impactful due to the underlying story and your own understanding of what ever happening and Oxenfree's dialogue felt very natural and IMO didn't feel like you were being railroaded down different branches.
Yeah I can't believe the mentality still exists but I have to believe it probably started because we had that span of The Witcher 2 coming out where Act 2 could literally branch 2 different ways and within a year or so we had The Walking Dead which a lot of people derided for not really caring about your choices - which is wholly wrong.

I know TT games get a lot of flack for other reasons but the complaint that they do not have your decisions mean much for plot, that's never been the point of those games at all.

My awesome brother just gifted me a copy on Steam! Love ya bro! Shout out to SolarStrike!!!!

I wonder if in the cave system you find a copy of Axelay 2?

Reviews aside I'm curious to hear people's thoughts on the game. The Giant Bomb video kind of unsold me in a way (crossposted from the GB thread);

I want to play Firewatch to look at it, but nothing about the bits they've shown have me interested beyond that.

The dialogue comes through as trying a bit too hard to evoke an approximation of 'natural' conversation. The performances come across as overly smarmy/sarcastic (yet unfunny) people who would drive me crazy to interact with in real life. I'm hoping the fact they were showing a condensed snippet had to do with it, but I don't know if I can hang with those personalities for the length of the game if that's the level of banter to look forward to...

Ugh what, it doesn't become available until 6pm UK time? That sucks. Hope it downloads quickly when I get home, though I doubt it knowing my Internet connection.

Not sure if any other reviewers hit this. No spoilers... You find a camera in the PC version of the game, and you can snap pics with it. It's disposable.

You can have the pics physically developed and shipped to you once you beat it.

There are some story relevant pics that show up, too. I won't share those, of course.

This is a pretty awesome feature.

damn thats so cool...

Loving this new Twin Peaks thread. I almost never pre-order games, but I figured I'd buy it anyway, so I may as well take the two bucks off. Looking forward to it!

So i guess no pre load? Or no way to buy it til the store uploads tomorrow : /
unluckely, no :(
I'm pre-loading it right now! Could be because I'm in Japan, but the pre-load should be available to others soon.

So lucky tomorrow is a holiday here, will have a lot of time to play it, plan on finishing in a single dip. Will be the perfect game after finishing The Witness yesterday.

That's really neat. I heard about the camera feature, but didn't know much about it and can't run the Steam version.

Hope you all enjoy this. I was a tad dissapointed but overall was enthralled. Very cool. PS4 performance was rough and I don't notice that kinda stuff so it was def noticable.

Hey man, always enjoy your opinions on games and your reviews, I didn't get to see if you talked about it before but what was your source of disappointment? Story related or the performance?

This is out tmrw? Holy shit!

I remember seeing the reveal trailer whenever it was and being very intrigued and completely forgot about it with all the other stuff going on and now I find out it's coming out tmrw. Awesome!

Reviews have been good, will catch up on all the media to see if my curiosity is still alive.

Great OT! Can't wait for this game, but the reports about the PS4 performance are slightly bothersome.

My only other option to play it is on my 2012 retina macbook (2.6 i7, 16GB RAM, 650M 1025mb), but I'm not sure how smoothly it'll run the game.

Has anyone seen anything on OS X performance?

So the game is 4 hours which is interesting seeing how the achievements are
complete Day 79
. From preview videos it seems like people can take 20-30 minutes doing the first initial days. I can only assume that the
days aren't actually 1-79 but you just skip the days
(speculations based on trophies).

Enjoy it man. I have two exams tomorrow and one on Wednesday. Blows.

Sucks man, and exams are even worse than working, it swallows your time and mind into it.

Little bit of both really, here is my spoiler free review. Still worth experiencing for me. http://www.ztgd.com/firewatch/review/

Thanks for posting.
Gave it a read, i'm interested to see what you mean about the plot red herring, as i've read in some other reviews, you are not alone on feeling a bid "mislead'" with the ending. Still glad most are enjoying it either way, still very hyped for it.
