First footage of the Crytek 2 engine

I'M GOING TO SHOOT YOU IN THE FACE!

Looks great, the video could be easily confused as a tourism marketing aid as well.

holy shazbot. That's what I think, since the guy asked in the video. I wanna see a high quality video of this though.

DAY-UMN

I love how he doesn't go through the leaf, but it moves how it should. That clipping is one thing I hate in games today.

FarCry2? Oh hell yeah, but it'll take a bad ass system to play it. I hope it comes to consoles cause that island looks beautiful.

That is a damn fine engine, but I'm a bit confused as whether or not CryTek will actually be developing Far Cry 2. They signed on with EA for their next game, and Ubisoft owns the Far Cry property, so it should be interesting.

Everything looked great... except the fire

I was thinking the same thing. The fire/burning truck was just... hmm. Something off. Also, not as big as that problem, but I didn't really dig the faces at the end. They looked fine, but they just didn't blow me away or anything.

The rest of the trailer is mind-blowingly good, so man... next-gen is gonna be great.

It's because it's an animated cloud of particles in the video and is lacking all the patterned chaos of real fire. Personally, I'll be surprised if we get real fire (with correct behavior) by the end of next-gen.

The Crytek engine was ass. Ran like dogshit on everything other than a machine that far surpassed it's requirements. Chunky, impractical, a pain in the ass. I expect no better from Crytek2

Damn! That looks really great.

The Crytek engine really one-upped the Doom 3 engine, and I expect no less from these guys a second time around.

I'm impressed by the fully interactive foliage. That seemed almost unreal.

My system was below the recommended and I was able to turn on AA and max AF when I beat the original (something I can't do for most other games)

Hopefully they get a new writer for Far Cry 2... and less mutants this time. How bout none actually. :)

Apparently PS3 will have a heavily optimized version of CryEngine 2 to take advantage of Cell. That'll surely lead to lots of fun bickering when the games come out.

Fire does seem to be a tough one in games. Any idea what they were doing in RE4? I know it had to be a canned animation of some sort but boy did it look convincing. I always thought Naughty Dog had some great looking fire fx in their Jak engine as well, it wasnt realistic like RE4 but it had very natural looking movement, nice particles and distortion too.

Wow! Glad Im clicked that link before heading to bed. That is an amazing engine. My favorite parts were the guy brushing against the tree and interacting with the branch instead of just clipping through it. And that truck owning that little shack. WOW! I am super-impressed. PEACE.

I've played with the Source, BF2, and even UT2004's engines...and CryTek's was by far and away the most graphically impressive, and it came out BEFORE HL2 and D3.

It's not bad to work with either. The only issue is that it is really geared to open outdoor levels...and it didn't run that great on my and many other people's PCs. I had some issues with controls on my PC (press fire and it shoots a second later)...some weird stuff. Despite that I still played around and coded a bit (which is pretty simple too).

Gotta check out this movie!

I think everyone's favorite part is when the man walks against the leaf and doesn't clip through it. That's was probably my biggest pet pev this gen. I think the volumtreic clouds could have been a little better and the fire could have too. But it look great otherwise.

Oh and the truck crushing the house oh yeah HOTT!!

Yeah, they're working on the PS3 rev as we speak - Crytek were the first to receive PS3 dev kits in Germany.

volumetric clouds are very impressive.
is this all SM2.0/3.0 stuff? i read somewhere it might be beyond those

Err, no. I ran Far Cry on a machine below recommended specs originally (P4-2.4 GHz + 9700 Pro) and it ran like a dream at nearly max detail. Beautiful game!
