First Two Hours Of Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines 2

The question is if it will actually be an imm-sim, or will it be watered down garbage like most games that get a sequel 20 years later?

The Chinese Room is taking a big bite out of vampire culture in Seattle with its moody RPG, Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2. Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 releases on October 21, 2025. Learn more about in this latest preview from Gamescom 2025.

When I see a keycode for the premium edition for $60 I'll "bite". The game will drop in price fast when they see people are not buying. The publishers have too much hubris. I feel sorry for the developer, because like the Dead Island 2 developer, it looks like the turned a game in development hell into a quality final product.
Personally I will wait for $30-40 for complete version in a year or so. As a bonus it will be patched up (hopefully). I also feel bad for the devs but not bad enough to encourage this bullshit.

Man, im looking at the standard version for $50 on Cdkeys. The devil on my shoulder is telling me those other two classes don't matter because you weren't going to use them anyway. Im going to try and stay strong and hold out. I just preodered Hell Is Us. I really want to play Bloodlines 2 though. When I think about it. Bloodlines 1 would be a perfect game for Nightdive or Aspyr to remaster

This is not bloodlines 2. The previous version was this one obviously isn't. It's a pity we didn't get that version. It had promise (although obviously the gameplay still needed a lot of work) but it was an actual sequel, this is something else (i wouldn't call it an rpg personally).

Yeah, this looks nothing like Bloodlines, but it might be a fun Vampire the Masquerade game.

There is no point in pre-ordering. The game will be $50 post release as well.

Just wait for release, read reviews / impressions, watch YouTube reviews of final product and decide then.

I am sure your backlog has enough stuff to last you years! 😉

The prior version doesn't exist. It got canceled because the devs couldn't pull it off. There's no point in thinking about it.

Not sure if this will make any difference, but regardless of how the game will perform Paradox already openly stated they won't be doing anything with Bloodlines IP post Bloodlines 2. The Chinese Room has fulfilled their contract and Paradox is pretty much pulling the plug on publishing RPGs. Any future game using Bloodlines name will be only through them granting license to external partners who would have to fund it themselves

Theres....a....constant....inner...voice....what the fuck. I already got annoyed in the first minutes. Dont tell me the entire fucking game Ill hear someone describing every single fucking thing...Also just an fyi, that youtuber is like the most fake guy ever, he's literally "this is top tier" for every single game.
I was just about to say that too. It always strikes me as lazy writing and world-building.
Also the guy said the game is very good 14 minutes into it.

Well i frequently think about that 3rd adam jensen game we never got so i am used to disappointment. I am not sure if it was the devs who couldn't pull it off or paradox who wanted something different but in the end it matters little.

There is no point thinking about anything at the end of the day. We are all just dust in the wind.

Im just saying there is no point in bringing up a game that was canceled and the dev was fired. Whatever features that were in that version are irrelevant because that game is never coming out and likely was not just bad but there was no path towards finishing it. Even if this VMB2 is bad, no point in comparing it to a game that doesn't exist.

What people think they really want is never irrelevant. Sure, you can tell people that they will never get what they want but you cannot tell them to stop wanting it or that it is a waste of their time to want anything in particular.

What you guys have to remember is that this is The Chinese Room's first attempt at gameplay. Cut them some slack!

Haven't watched the whole video yet and the narrator looks like an oxford professor but man those abilities sound fun, i just hope it won't be too shallow.
Watched the video, nice abilities indeed, shame two of them are behind DLC.

To be fair we knew very little about the first version, other than something very weird going on behind the scenes. Also you were supposed to be a thinblood in that game, which was kinda lame.

I've seen people claim that the first version was so woke that Paradox canned it, and others say that it was a perfect looking sequel to the first. I honestly doubt we know any of these things.
Maybe one day we learn what actually happened.

what good does it do you to pine over a game that you will never play and almsot certainly does not exist in the form you think it does.

I suspect we will see al ot of this until this game comes out, a lot of people comparing this awful pieece of shit to the perfect successor to the original that Paradox canceled for no good reason and it's just dumb.

The games look pretty good tbh. Will it be better than the first half of bloodlines 1 (it wont). But i will say the second half of bloodlines 1 is donkey poopoo so maybe overall this is better lol

I've been ignoring this for years but just saw it on the store for pre-order.

So this is some Immersive Sim RPG thing from Chinese Room? Um, is it awesome?

This genuinely looks great, call me pleasantly surprised for once. I expected to be dissapointed after all the troubled news about it. The first one is a cult classic and this looks very promising to hold up to that legacy but we'll see.

It's a Day 1 right now though, unless some bad previews come out or something.

Question how does the female characters look like? I'm considering getting this but if they uglfied all the females in the game than this game is a skip

Is bloodline 1 gog.version already patched and ready to go?

I have a vague memory of gog doing something with timeless classics and have all the mods included for noobs like me who don't wanna deal with mods and homemade fixes and shit.

I really want to replay the game (this time with proper res and framerate, first playthrough was pathetic :lollipop_grinning_sweat: ) but i don't wanna deal with anything more complicated than paying and start playing.

They recently added a one click install modded version with Unofficial Patch which installs everything you need without a need of configuring anything. Looks like it's the newest version of the mod

So umm, what would be the order of installation? The base game first and the the one click patch?

I'm really noob with this stuff.

You buy the game, add that mod I linked to your library, download that Unofficial Patch version (no need to do anything with the original beside owning it) and play it

I'm not super familiar with gog, what library are you talking about? The gog library in my gog account? And how do i install the patch without installing the game first?

Sorry for being such a fucking bellend :messenger_pensive:

P.s. do you know if it has full controller support?

Yeah, gog account. Those one click mods on GOG are basically standalone apps that doesn't require main games to play them, they only require original games on your account as a way to verify you actually own them.

Here's a step by step configuration
1. You need to own a copy of VtMB: Bloodlines on your GOG account. If not, you need to buy it
2. When you have the original game, you need to add this mod to your library. It looks kinda like purchasing it, but it's a free thing
3. You log in to GOG Galaxy or go to your library on the website
4. You need to find the "Vampire®: The Masquerade - Bloodlines™ - Unofficial Patch" product in your library. This mod is a standalone package, so you don't need to do anything with the original version you bought
5. If you're on GOG Galaxy you just click "Install" and wait until it will download. After downloading you can play it. I haven't tested the download from the webpage, but I assume you just download the installer and install it manually in that configuration
6. After running the game make sure to check the resolution, the game is adjusted for widescreen but for me it started on the lower res and I had to set higher res manually

Thanks, last question, do you know if it has full controller support, i hated playing this with mouse and key back in the days...

Yeah, this looks nothing like Bloodlines, but it might be a fun Vampire the Masquerade game.
The remnants of Troika games team that made the first game became Obsidian which unfortunately was acquired by the woke Microsoft blob. We will never get good games from them again.

If I remember correctly there wasn't any by default. I see there are some mods adding controller support, but I never played it with them

Nah all Gog do is make them DRM free. As for mods its super easy. 99% of the time its just extracting files to a specific folder and thats it. Also Moddb is the best source of mods for any game plus the creators of these mods are in the discussion boards.

GOG recently introduced this feature where they have selected mods as standalone apps and Bloodlines Unofficial Patch is one of them. You just add that mod and play from these apps as you would run an original game. They even updated Fallout London to this new format which removed previously tedious updating process

I think it's a recent thing what gog is doing.

I still don't expect anything here. The Chinese Room have never made a good game and I don't expect it to change with this one. And Paradox are also doing their part by locking clans behind DLC already.

I've watched and read an unhealthy amount of stuff about the development of the first Bloodlines game.
A lot of the Troika devs were scattered around. There were even few that went to work at Blizzard. Some of them founded Obsidian, but from the original more better known founding devs, some have also left Obsidian.
I think Avellone for example is working on Ken Levine's Judas.
Tim Cain is still there though, and he's mainly working on The Outer Worlds games...

Tim Cain retired a few years ago and believe it or not, he's primarily a youtuber nowadays. He was one of the leads on The Outer Worlds 1, but to my understanding he only acts as a consultant on the second game

Chris Avellone's story is a tougher one. He was unemployed for a long time because of some Karens who tried to cancel him. He had to fight with them in court to prove these accusations were false and made up, which he won. I believe he recently joined to a new studio founded by one of the former devs from Quantic Dream and is working on an unnanounced dark fantasy RPG

I didn't notice we had a thread about this demo.

Well, on one hand it doesn't look like the complete and unsalvageable disaster I was expecting to be.
On the other hand it DOES look aggressively mediocre in almost every single part they shown so far, and even more stripped down of interactivity and "RPG elements" than the original (which was already fairly lean in terms of number crunching and subsystems).

Also, no pickpocketing, no lockpicking, no hacking... the formal excuse seems to be that "it doesn't fit the power fantasy the studio envisioned for this specific main character", but I think it's just the cover excuse for "We didn't have either the talent or the budget to implement more complex subsystems and mechanics".

Last but not least, "PHYRE" as default name for the main character is distilled cringe, but hey.

Eh. Even before this story he had a... Let's say a "stormy" relationship with the rest of Obsidian, from which he parted ways in a less-than-amicable way, to put it mildly.

Oh yeah, I remember reading some screen caps of posts he publicly posted about Obsidian and their leads. That was certainly something, that's for sure

Yeah I heard of that, I'm just glad he's writing again. I checked his wiki page few weeks ago to see if he's working on something and it said he's the narrative designer of Judas. Maybe his work is done there and he has moved on.

I still feel baffled that someone seriously thought about giving the lead character a "Phyre the vampire" moniker and felt that cringe name was fine to go with
