Never bought another racing game after Burnout Paradise. And now I'm glad I didn't. What the hell were they thinking.

No because a lot of the negatives PC gamer gave are similar to that of a lot of other reviews posted.
Yes because PC Gamer was the only one to have the balls to give it a score reflecting those negatives. The other sites/mags were like "Smaller levels, checkpoints and more linear in a lot of places.......90%!". Those are not small nitpicking negatives that you put on a game that actually deserves a 90%, those are negatives that drastically change what Hitman is. That's why I was saying they didn't know Hitman because the only other conclusion that could be made from that is that they were paid off, and I don't like throwing the paid off excuse all of the time.
You are complaining about a casual feature and your last racer you bought was a casual racer. Okay. Again, it has no impact at all, you don't have to use it etc.pp. But this is getting too offtopic now.
Exactly. At least wait for the RPS and Eurogamer reviews because saying that the game will be terrible.

There's plenty more on Youtube. That's not 15FPS and they are using an Eyefinity setup.
You have to wait for post release reviews to get any kind of objectivity, usually, which is why pre-ordering is a bad idea.
The thing that is surprising with the PC gamer review is that their pre-release reviews almost always follow the "8/10 for big budget games as a minimum so we continue to get pre-release review code in the future" rule. So to see that review is startling and disappointing. Something must really be broken in the game if a magazine is willing to risk it's relationship with a publisher by posting a bad pre-release review.
If you really want to know what the game is like before buying, you'll have to wait until after it is released.

It is symptomatic though of the trend in game design that seeks to make everything frustration free. & I really believe that challenge causes frustration, so removing frustration means removing challenge. You cant have your cake and eat it too. I think that is why single player games are dying and multiplayer games aren't. Multi is the only place where gaming is still a challenge.

The checkpoint system respawns them. I can understand why people think of traditional checkpoints and how that breaks the eb and flow, but the checkpoints are at specific physical locations in the levels, and you have the choice of going into them and saving or choosing not to. While I think enemies respawning if you reload from a checkpoint to be pretty shit, I think this feature will mostly be used by new players to Hitman, as it's entirely disabled in later difficulty levels.
To elaborate on how it works, here's a video of the first level that showcases the checkpoints, and it's shown early on in the video. I know the level doesn't help the complaints of linearity, but IO's had a habit of making the first levels of Hitman games pretty straightforward, such as with Codename 47 and Blood Money. But even so, Absolution's first level has more options for the player than those two.
I guess they mean that if a level is constructed like A-B-C and you get to B, stuff between A and B respawn.
Is the flythrough at 7:35 some integrated "hint" system as in "here is your target, here is a distraction, here is a weapon" (I guess they felt that figuring those out by yourself would be too time-consuming and boring) or is it demo-exclusive?
Nah, it's more of if you reload from a checkpoint, the whole level refreshes everything you did unless it was an objective, and you start at said checkpoint. It's very strange, very terrible in what it does, and will very easily be unused by myself and I assume traditional Hitman fans.

How far are you in Codename 47? I thought the game was pretty great, outside of the fucking Columbia arc. Hands down the worst series of missions in the entire franchise. The game is way too punishing if you get into firefights too, as the damage system in the game isn't balanced too well like with body armor.
Silent Assassin also has an infamous series of missions that are infuriating too, but far less than the Columbia ones.
Don't think of it like Bonfires from the Souls games, though! They only respawn if you load from those checkpoints.

I don't think it was "fantastic", but 55? Holy shit. That's absolutely ridiculous, and makes me extremely skeptical of this review people are worried about. I admit that the listed bullet points are a tad worrying, though.

I like this.
All I was waiting for was for 1 well known reviewer to come out like PC Gamer did. The problem I have with waiting for more reviews is what are we expecting to change? It's one thing to say "the graphics suck/dont' suck" but things like "there are less ways to kill targets" and "more linear areas" are pretty straightfoward. The game either has those or not, whereas graphics is a pretty broad spectrum and way up in the air.
So am I waiting for 20 other reviewers to come out and echo that? Even the good reviews have listed most of the same complaints, PCG was the only one to dish the low score out for it.

It feels like you're actively hunting something down to satisfy your preconceived opinion (which of course, may be right I admit). That said, myself, I prefer to read about 20 reviews and find as much consistency across them as possible to get a feel for the game. It generally keeps me in check (which is why glitches in AC3 don't bug me, I was prepared for them).
I'm still looking forward to the game. As long as it's fun, I'll be happy. I am sorry for you because it seems like IO's pretty much stomped all over your heart.
But hey... maybe next year when you get it on the Steam sale, you'll actually get lucky and... have some fun with it.
No I said a couple of weeks ago when all of these console and obscure reviews were coming out to wait for the PC reviews because, well...would you trust a RPS or PC Gamer review of Metal Gear Solid or Final Fantasy?
The PC Gamer reviewer in question is obviously a Hitman fan given some of the stronger language used and he thinks it's garbage and an embarrassment to the franchise and lists pretty black and white reasons why. Unless he is blatantly lying there's not much to still wonder about, only if you feel like you can put up with the complaints and negatives of the game which most Hitman fans won't.

I don't know where most of these reviewers are coming from, but I'm really only interested in hearing from people who recognize what's great about Hitman. If people give Absolution 9's despite compromising on that, then I probably don't care why.

Well, so far sound like problems specific to whatever hardware and software combos PC Gamer has got going on, and IO has 10 days to fix whatever's causing that.
In previous Hitman games when you had to restart you could try going about things a different way. Blood Money never really got old or frustrating. Just, "hey, what's over there? wonder if I can...?"
When you're basically asked to repeat the progress you lost, that's what makes trial and error bad. Just mindless dronery.
I don't know if Absolution has issues with this kind of thing. But it sounds like it might to a larger degree than Blood Money...
At this point I feel like I'm buying the game as much to find out for myself how much it might be missing the mark, as I am because I'm excited about the release of another Hitman game.

Yup, had to set everything to the min, except resolution. I'm still hoping they'll fix it, as Sniper Challenge didn't even get to the gameplay part first time I tried it. It crashed just as the first cutscene began, and exactly the next day Squeenix released a patch that solved the problems. So I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.

I'm more inclined to believe this reviewer in that case. I didn't hate MP3 or anything, but it didn't get called out nearly enough for its issues by most critics.

Really, with the accidents system, melee/shove ability, and a greater selection of gadgets, I'd argue it's the most complicated of the series.
In regard to the German PC games website PCGames.de, they posted a review for Assassin's Creed 3.
Considering that Assassin's Creed 3 is a few weeks away from releasing on the PC and I have my doubts that it's even done, I can only assume that they reviewed one of the console version of the game and "extrapolated" a review of the PC version based on it. As a PC gamer, how am I supposed to judge the credibility of such a site?

I am too really curious about the RPS verdict, they said Dishonored is the best stealth game since Thief 2, so we will see.
