First infos on RE4 PS2 port quality

Well, golly gee, forgive me for not being a release date whore. Its coming out the same time as the Xbox version and still won't look as good. Anything less than the platform it was built on in my mind is definately settling for less (or ass).

I'm not wrong about the PS2 version, it won't look as good, period. Hell, you admitted that yourself by saying anyone who wouldn't get the Xbox or PC version was a fool. So what are we arguing about again?

The movies of PS2 rev were posted at the B3D, and the general consensus among the XBox fans was that it looked bloody good.
 
Its coming to PS2, but its not going to look as good as it did on GameCube because RE4 was built from the ground-up for GameCube. When RE4 hits PS2 later this year, everyone who would have wanted to play it will already have played it and it won't sell as much as a result.

Dude, RE4, yes not the version that is devil may cry, but the GC game, started out as a ps2 project, so it was NOT built from the ground up on GC. Mikami even said so in an interview when Resident Evil Remake was first announced. I'm sure they rewrote alot of the engine, but the base engine is still ps2. I think itll run fairly smoothly on PS2.

Yup. Man, thats an old interview. Its gonna be a tough find, but ill research and see if i can pull up the interview again. But yeah, not DMC, but the current RE4 switched development from PS2 to GC.

Your high. Have you seen the making of DVD? THIS version RE4 was totally built from the ground up on Gamecube in fact they basically said Remake and REZero were practice so they could perfect the engine for part 4.

OK, Mikami is high then too, because he's the one who said it, not me. I dont deny that they rewrote most of the engine, maybe even all of it, but after DMC, RE4 started on PS2 then was switched to GC. The game has PS2 roots, like it tor not.

Of course the game has PS2 roots no one denys that. But no way in hell is the engine in this final game designed for anything but the Gamecube. Hence the whole point of the topic.

Dude, do you work at Capcom? NO! You don't know what engine they used and how much of it was broght over from ps2. Neither do I. Alls i know is Mikami said the game started out on PS2 and was switched to GC. I don't think Capcom completly threw everything away when porting it over to GC.

And sorry i dont have the complete video of vince's dance. Your best bet would be finding a torrent from that raw, although knowing which raw exactly would be tough..

Baahhh!

I have proof that RE4 engine originated on the Gamecube because in the latests interviews Edge asks Kobayashi would they like to use the RE4 engine for one more sequel and he replies that P.N03 was a very early build of the RE4 engine of the game we have. The PS2 RE4 engine is the DMC engine and it is unrelated to RE4 on Cube.
 
DMC was supposed to be RE4 but because of all the action elements they turned it into its own series.

RE4 was built from the ground up on Gamecube hardware. They had multiple engines and versions of it and chose the one that we have as the game. The game is optimized for GCN and the PS2 version will be inferior.

Who God damn cares? If you're a GameCube owner who likes the game, you probably already have it and get to play it before people who only own a PS2.

If you're on the PS2 side, "your system" has already beat the GameCube, and you'll get the game, which is great.

i will buy resident evil on ps2. i dont have a gamecube and i dont want one. one year waiting - who cares, there are enough other great games to play in the meantime.

nintendo fanboys should already stop crying. thats really annoying and poor.

That's so ridiculous I don't know where to start. Oh, wait... I do. So Conker's Bad Fur Day on Xbox is settling for less, since the game was built with N64 in mind? REmake can't compare RE?
PS2 -> Xbox ports were more subtle examples. Some looked the same. Most were improved to varying degrees. The only ones I can think of that looked worse in any way were from Konami, and it seemed like they tried to make them worse. With MGS2, they RE-COMPRESSED the PS2 textures instead of making new Xbox textures from the source art, for Christ's sake.

Ported releases never do well when they come out months and months after the original. (except for maybe GTA pack for Xbox - but that was a good deal)

I think you might end up being wrong...

Take a look at the Code Veronica X sales for PS2. First of all, when it was originally released for Dreamcast, there was no other version promised (unlike RE4, where we knew about the PS2 version prior to the GC version even showing up at retail). Secondly, the PS2 port didn't show up for nearly two years after the original release. Even more importantly, RECV was released when the DC was still hot...while RE4 has shown up in the dark years of the Cube. That didn't stop it from outselling the DC version, though, did it?

Do you really think that everyone who wants to play RE4 has already done so? No way. The PS2 port will most likely be very successful...

I was thinking Sonic Adventure 2 did pretyy well on the GC - probably better than the Dreamcast version.

For the purposes of this board, everyone does. Otherwise, they're dumb. $150 for a system and game of this caliber is SO worth it. (especially with the other Cube games out)

I concur with the idea that this PS2 port will sell well below expectations, and won't look as good as the Gamecube one. Just watch. The day it releases, there will be multiple threads dedicated to specific issues within the game.

Waiting around for a U.S. announcement for the PS2 version could very well be bordering on "dumb".

Out of curiousity do you own a PS2? Otherwise, $150(IIRC, a Gamecube is $100 and not $150) for a PS2 system with so many games that are great is SO worth it as well. If not, these people are dumb as well.
 
I don't own a PS2 because I possess neither the time nor the money for it. I can afford the system, but I would never be able to play all those games. Xbox/GCN is a fine combo, thanks.

But if I did own the PS2 and had the means, I would buy a Gamecube and RE4 in a heartbeat.

Its kind of sad really, gamers just dont care how the makers of these games wanted them to be played. This case is a blatant abuse of a director's wishes where capcom put it on the ps2 despite what the director wanted. No wonder we are getting so many half assed games as of late, why should directors even bother making a real effort for their vision anymore?

I'm sure it will look very comparable to GC version. Don't know - it's not like GC and PS2 are a generation different. Will have some problems/bad textures, perhaps - but it will look pretty comparable IMHO.
