Hard to judge anything based on that shot tbh. Director doesn't inspire confidence but it might at least look decent?

It's ScarJo in an action movie tho, it's probably going to make bank worldwide.

From the people who brought you Snow White And the Huntsman, THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 1 & 2, IRON MAN, GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE, PROMETHEUS, TEKKEN, EDGE OF TOMORROW, and 300.

All of those movies make it seem like this will not be the Ghost in the Shell movie I would want. Hopefully it exceeds expectations.

Why do people keep saying whitewashing, there is nothing Asian about the original character features.

Because the movie is based on a Japanese Manga plus Asian actors have it tough in Hollywood as they are always sidelined for their white cohort.

Can you whitewash a robot?

(Yes, probably.)

Why do people keep saying whitewashing, there is nothing Asian about the original character features.

I wouldn't having chosen ScarJo though.
While she is a robot, she is also working as an agent in future Japan. While she is supposed to be good looking she isn't standing out by looking foreign.

Look, we all know how Hollywood treat asian actors and that this isn't an accident or a deliberate casting because ScarJo is so good for this role. This is just calculation that people want to see white people as protagonists.

Love GitS, love Scar Jo. Hope it turns out well!

To be fair, she has purple hair and wears lingerie in public. She's not exactly blending in, no matter her ethnicity.

the average motoko cosplay looks better than that
At least it isn't

How would this have gotten an American release then?

Surely there are some Japanese-American actresses around, surely.

I couldn't really name someone for the role of the major, all I'm saying is that this person isn't it.

I'm well aware of the realities of hollywood, though.

Just based on everyone involved it's gonna be horrible. Should have just thrown in a Japanese female lead so it could bomb harder.

It took a few seconds to dawn on me that she was playing Makoto. Weird choice apart from her star appeal.

The original is a genuinely good cyperpunk movie...I mean a well produced adaptation could genuinely be better than most of the action/thrillers Hollywood is currently putting out. Cough, cough standard, pretty revenge flick like Revenant earning high accolades...cough cough

Is the film set in Japan?

you know, I'm starting to think when holywood want to try adapt anime/manga to live action, they should just don't use the name and characters from the anime. just come up with new title, and new characters inspired by the manga. they'll have more freedom in adapting the story that way and can focus to just make a good movie. they can say inspired by the hit anime/manga series in their promo campaign.

the core anime fanbase will know about the movie, and it won't offend them if there are changes to the base material

isn't that what Edge of Tomorrow did. that got pretty good reception

Who cares about acting or how the movie is going to be like right. lets all judge on how someone looks and say that its going to suck because she does not look like a drawn character...

Mentioned this to Lik Chan on Twitter, but I'm not looking forward to everyone complaining about the casting decisions for the next year and change.

it's really hard to judge this shot, not a whole lot here

that said, i think scarjo is great casting for major. i hope she's been binging sac or we're doomed.

Her hair colour seems to be a natural hair colour, given that her first body had the same hair, I assume the doctors wouldn't give the girl freakish hair, so it's probably normal or even the same as her original hair so she could've feel more comfortable with it.

Furthermore, she usually has some weird clothing, but that is her operation uniform. When she goes casual, she wears normal clothes. (Thought I gotta say, that I was never a fan of her skimpy uniform, but that's besides the point).

Look for both here [The Paper Crane Story]

Are there no Japanese in the USA?

I do hope this turns out good.

I like the director.
produced by Avi Arad (“THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 1 & 2,” “IRON MAN”), Ari Arad (“GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE”), and Steven Paul (“GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE”).
oh.

Yeah I mean every other detail surrounding this project is absolute gold
Produced by Avi Arad (“THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 1 & 2,” “IRON MAN”), Ari Arad (“GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE”), and Steven Paul (“GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE”). Michael Costigan (“PROMETHEUS”), Tetsu Fujimura (“TEKKEN”)
Oh...

Scar looks fine and could probably pull the role off just fine.

However, the team behind it? Yikes. No way this isn't terrible.

As long as they include the part where she has virtual orgy with her friends.............

The original had like 2 short action scenes and the rest was spent drowning on about philosophical ideas of man and machine. It's a little overrated nowadays. Stand Alone Complex is when GitS really got the cyberpunk ball rollin.
