First PGR3 screen !

It seems folks equate next-gen with photo-realism more than anything else.

If you're not photo-realistic, you get skewered on GAF.

also shitty texture work, polygon starvation, and poor artistic direction! We also skewer those things too.

It's kinda seeming that way, but what's the excuse for all of those games that clearly look like Xbox 1 titles, photo realism style or not?

What's up, next-gen...

*rubs face to ground*

...where you been honey...

*slowly kisses the surface of next-gen's neck*

...oh yeah, i know...PD0 been hittin' you?

*rubs next-gen's leg*

...don't worry, Amir0x make it all alright?

*caresses next-gen*

I'll hold you until the pain goes away.

*hugs next-gen*

Forever, into the sun lit horizons...

*feeling of awkwardness rising... and that's not the only thing!*

Damn, I really set my sights WAYYYYY too high for the next gen. :\ This does look very nice, but it still feels like an enhanced XBOX game...
So what's wrong with that pic. You're setting yourself up for disappointment if the you think car racers are going to look alot better. They already look amazing this gen. I still think there is a degree of diminishing returns. I mean how can you drastically improve a car model from Forza or GT4. Model the internal engine? What the hell for?

according to the mtv videos, pgr3 has modeled interiors.. pretty cool

Holy crap. Maybe now people will realize that the technology is there and now it's up to what each dev can do with it instead of looking at oh... PD0 and jumping to conclusions. :lol

Can't wait to see what PS3 and Rev. bring to the table.

It's nice, but not a whole generational leap, IMO. The windows are textures. Half the details on the building are textures. The polygons on the buildings are low. I mean, they're buildings... big ol' blocky buildings. The car looks fantastic, but that's it. [edit] Well, it has nice lighting, too.

Look at the right shoulder of the guy in the balcony on the right? What is that, 2 polys? Human shoulders aren't nearly that sharp.

Xbox1.5? More like Xbox .9.

100% agree. The fucking relentless pursuit of photo-realism is going to end up badly for everyone.

i think we need to trim the herd before e3

I think the last couple of days has made people go nuts. dark10 one of the best posters on GA says looks like an Xbox upgrade. I;ve just this last 10 minutes came from playing Forza (released today in the UK) and that one picture of PGR3 is a different league, its substabtially better, nope its bleeding miles better (pun intended). Sorry dark I really think your talking through your preverbial.

And look at that wire holding the fence up? Everyone knows that european wire is perfectly straight, even in the harshest conditions. That looks more like cheap Ecuadorian wire, but that's what you get when your system is limited by PD0.

I'm digging the smoke, they need to tone down the depth of field effect but I have to see it in motion, maybe it enhances the sense of speed. Wish they would have thrown a couple of polys at the windows.

God i cant wait for screens of Rev and PS3 games. im expecting them to be a generation ahead of X360 based on the expectations of retards in this thread. If its anywhere close to the graphics of PGR3 or Gears of War, Unreal 3 then its going to get real messy.

yeah, really... that model could pass as a prerendered cg, and this is only the first wave of games.

dorio The games not finished, I'm sure there plenty to sort out. On PGR2 they were coding until 1 month before the title launched.

All I can stare at is that car. Incredible. It looks like it has real weight to it. I bet with 360 controller it's going to feel nice.
Same here. I need new job, hell a new career. Why wasn't I born rich.

They should have released a gameplay shot showing some damage modeling like that old XNA crash video. That would have really impressed people.

I was picking up what you were throwing down... but I think everyone else's sarcasm meter is fully pegged. Next time, just include some friendly sarcasm tags.

There is nothing wrong with the pic. The car model is extremely good, but the background is still lacking. That second pic looks better, though, due to the blurring.

The original pics and movies of UE3 running blew me away and I was expecting next-gen games to actually look quite a bit better.

I was kind of expecting global illumination is virtually all games (shadows cast on and from ALL objects in the scene), EXTREMELY complex backgrounds (those buildings, for instance, could be a lot more detailed), loads of advanced "CG-like" effects, unmatched sense of scale, and more.

I guess I really haven't had a clear vision of where the nextgen was heading. I simply wanted to be blown away.

Tell me about it. One thing I badly want to see is next-gen Criterion stuff. I'm going to faint when we finally see Burnout Next.

You need to ask yourself why you want a background building to have ultra-complex detail in a racing game where the only thing you consistantly see is the car and the HUD. Something like Gears of War will have a lot of emphasis on heavy detail because you can stop and stare; most likely there will be tradeoffs somewhere else for that detail. Racing games, OTOH, need the detail to be focused on the car and what's directly in front of the car.

Looks real nice but they dont seem to be adding much to the gameplay. Here is what I mean.

Xbox.com: Aside from graphic and sound design, what game design elements does the new system let you implement that were not possible with the first Xbox?

Chudley:We have (at last!) got crowds. And a whole host of atmospheric effects such as litter and leaves, and dramatic weather and time-of-day effects.

That's just graphic improvement as well is it not?

Err, I race in first person...so I won't be seeing much of the car while playing.

Looking through ALL of the 360 media thus far, the ONLY thing to TRULY blow me away was that 40 second video from the Japanese conference. THAT was absolutely mind blowing and is exactly the type of thing I wanted to see from the next gen. I hope it does not turn out to be CG, though...
