The image is obviously computer generated, and since it was on ourcolony I just can't see how it could not be PGR3. But then I still have not seen any screens of that game, so I can't say it is it for sure. I don't have much doubtsDoube D said:welll blim, u tell us. is it or not? ;p
The car looks plastic to you? I'm at a loss of words here, what can you find to complain about in this render? The car part at least.Gregory said:I certainly hope that`s not representative of how the games will look next gen because then we`ll never hear the end of "it looks plastic" complaints. With me at the front.
Fight for Freeform said:I can imagine that being the game, but at 30 fps.
Why do people doubt the next gen? I'll never know!
u_neek said:beacuse we still haven't really seen anything truly impressive.
Fight for Freeform said:u_neek: Heh, I can't really argue with that...
If anyone is wondering where my optimism is coming from, it's basically from seeing engines like UE3, current titles like Far Cry, and getting a good idea of what games will be able to do from a technical perspective, for the next gen. And then I factor in the fact that UE3 and games like Far Cry haven't applied themselves to genres like racers, and fighters. So I expect to see something on this level.
To look at it in an extremely basic and perhaps incorrect manner, is to take the best looking games this gen and times it by 5. When it comes to racers, take a game like RSC2, or PGR2, and imagine 3 times the poly count, better reflections, more use of multitexturing. PGR2 looked pretty realistic to begin with, it's only fault being that it ran at 30fps.
Take a game like ESPN MLB and it's technically one of the best looking sports games thus far, and just up the poly count, animations, and with good artists it pretty much looks like real life.
On a side...I was wondering...what does the XY on the bottom right hand corner of the original pic stand for?
DopeyFish said:plastic? that looks nothing like plastic. God damn.
it looks hot!
and it doesn't look raytraced. it looks like a more higher res cubic reflection map.
Jonnyram said:So when the PS2 outputs nice replay graphics in GT4 it's considered "beautiful" but when we see this pic everyone throws their arms up and wails "it's not in game". Give me a break.

Well, they could also have a special rendering just for the hexagon stuff reflection. Reflecting red on red would be overkill, but just having this thing as a reflection could make sense. I'm not saying they will do this in the game, just that they could do it if they really wanted to.eso76 said:Look closely at the full size pic, the car's bumper lower part is reflecting the..erm...(i don't know what it is) that hexagons grid and parts of the bumper itself.
You can expect background reflections to be that accurate i guess, but the most accurate cube mapping wouldn't allow for such accurate 'self-reflections'; raytracing, no doubt.
But i believe the overall image-quality is what you can expect from next gen.
And all materials look perfectly real, there's some fast fresnel too. No plastic here
gofreak said:There was another supposed PGR3 pic I came across days ago, but I figured it might have already been posted in the ourcolony thread, so I didn't bother.
Here ya go:

It looks a little less clean than the one BlimBlim posted, I don't know if it's closer to realtime or not..
I think you're misusing the word "render". People are saying it's raytraced, which is a whole different matter. But people also seem to have very low expectations of the graphics we will see next gen.SolidSnakex said:I think people are saying this is a render, which is a pretty big difference from being GT4's replays.
DopeyFish said:That looks like a real picture and not a game render or anything.
I'll say it's not pgr3.![]()
gofreak said:I can't vouch for its authenticity or its links to ourcolony - I found it on another forum, supposedly it came from ourcolony - but it's a bit of a coincidence that another pgr3 pic that definitely is linked to ourcolony showed up a few days later. And that certainly doesn't look real to me. It looks very CGish IMO. Unless you mean someone took a real picture and processed it?

indeed, opinionated illinformed arseholes only at GAF.You're wasting your time trying to be the "voice of reason".
Oh you're right, my bad. Not a single person has said "not in game" so far in this thread.Ceb said:No, "everyone" is debating about whether or not this is a render. I haven't seen anyone speak about it in a negative manner so far.
nitewulf said:that could very well be in game, doctored shot but polygonal quality and reflections should be par for the course. in fact it's not impressive enough to be a CG render imo.
eso, the grill could be reflected by some specific algorithms im sure? if there is self-shadowing, why wouldn't there be self-reflecting?
DopeyFish said:look at the shadows. and some of the reflections of light, and the rocks are way too good to be done in real time.
