Or Ubi Soft in general...I mean they used to produce really quality stuff.

To their credit, WW wasn't a bad game, it just didn't feel like a PoP game and it was too focused on being 'mature' that it completely lost its way. Then again, you do have a point if you mean WW wasn't a great game (which I think you do.)

SoT was a fantastic, albeit, short game and I'd love to have a true sequel to it, but I gave up on it. According to an UbiSoft representative at the IGN boards:

Let's difuse a few early assumptions about this game:

1) Even more gothic than WW? I didn't read the UK OPM article but that statement,in itself, is totaly false. One of the number 1 suggestions was to take it back to Babylon like TSOT. Well? He's back. Simply becuase the first screens don't show the beauty of Babylon doesn't mean that it is not there. As a matter of fact, we tried to strike a balance in environments. We wanted to incorporate the darker side of the city as well as the beautiful side as well. Balance is the key to tug different emotions and different times and, rest assured, the environments and structures are of the requsted time period. Yes - the environemnts are bigger and will allow the Prince to travel many paths -roofs, underground, streets, etc. Is that bad? I thought it was freakin' cool to see how you adapted to each situation. Rooftops, streets, etc - each demand something different from the gamer. I think it's a super cool feature.

2) The Prince looks like he does in WW because that's where the story left off - immediately after WW whereas WW took place 7 years after TSOT? I, personally, like the mature prince better. Nothing wrong with that...is there?

3) Stealth like Sam Fisher? Laughable - but I'll address. This game is offering gamers' choices. Options. Decisions. Whatever you want to call it. At no point do you have to use this "stealth feature" and if OPM wrote what they should have, it would have been labeled a new stealth art. It's different. It's not a traditional stealth approach. As a matter of fact - don't use it. Go in with swords up and ready to roll. The Free-Form fighting system has been enhanced - use it to its fullest. However, this new stealth feature is something you need to see to understand. It's just different. It's a combination of the Prince's athleticism with an unseen strike. I think we're all hard-core gamers and can appreciate novelties that work. This is one of them. Please...erase any Sam Fisher images from your head - expect something new.

4) New weapons are only a whip? This is wrong. To let you know - the "PRINCE" doesn't use a whip. (Make your assumptions now).

5) You guys asked for a lot of things that are in the game. They will be revealed in due time - trust me.

Look, I can say this in all honesty - the leap in gameplay is greater from WW to 3(no title yet) - then TSOT to WW. As well as the story...telling.

There will always be the purist who wants TSOT 1.5 - it's not going to happen. We want to continue to innovate the brand - and we will.

What I find completely weird, is that the #1 biggest difference and coolest feature wasn't even mentioned. (you will find out tomorrow.)

I don't think it is far-fetched for me to state that this game will take home some awards from E3. We heard the same skeptisim for Splinter Cell:CT. And look what happend - it won best of show at E3 and is one of the highest rated games ever.

3rd time is a charm - that much I can back up.

Well - one of the coolest new features (that I referenced before)is revealed in that screenshot (which is real). You will play as two different characters due to the events that have occured. I think those of you who've played both will get more of a kick out of who the dark prince is and how he fits into the equation. It's a cool story.

To those questions about one liners - does anyone recall one liners in TSOT? I do. They simply weren't as cheesy as WW. Yes - i admit that we went a bit overboard. However - you live and learn.

Music - same thing: Live and Learn.

I don't think TSOT fans will feel too far from home while WW fans will still have the tools to be badass.

p.s.
Great point about the "railing people into stealth situations". That's weak. We're not a stealth game nor will we pretend to be. We just want to give people options.

p.s.s.
no - this is not GTA: Babylon. LOL. There's freedom but not like that.

I really REALLY want to hope for the best, because the potential for an incredible game, is there, given the SoT foundation, but WW really killed any anticipation for this sequel.

David Navarro for the movie.

Interesting setting though, I assume you'll be bounding along the rooftops like a creature of the night, scanning the horizon with quick furtive glances and sniffing the air with nostrils flaring.

Ubisoft dewd sez...

Sounds like some pathetic damage control from Ubisoft. I have no doubt that this game will suck AND will be filled with bugs. It took Mechner 4 years to make a PoP sequel, maybe Ubisoft should learn and stop miliking this new series so quickly.

Oh I totally agree. SoT was a great game and I was very disappointed in WW. Not because WW was a bad game...It wasn't...But as you said it wasn't PoP either. But I wasn't just limiting my statement to PoP. I'm also talking about the half-assed ports of the Splinter Cell games to PS2 and GC. I mean sure they're working with hardware limitations that aren't present on the XBox but damn...There must be some way around them that doesn't include hacing a game to pieces. And if there absolutely isn't a way around the hardware limitations why port it at all?

There's also the canning of BG&E as a series. OK sure the first one didn't sell up to expectations but if I remember correctly it wasn't a total bomb. And it was released right alongside PoP:SoT so it feels like Ubi Soft was trying to help it die. Grumpy Ubi rant off..

I just hate the forced mature crap they've thrust on PoP. They even gave themselves a way out of the "machoor" crap in the story of WW but it appears they haven't taken it...:(

I skipped on Warrior Within because it didn't interest me, but Sands of Time was great. It's all about the platforming. The fighting was actually rather tedious in Sands of Time. They made it kind of a hack 'n slash game, but I think less enemies with longer, more varied fights would have been better. These screens really emphasize fighting, unfortunately. The enemy design is horribly generic, but I love the look of the environment. Where the hell is the prince coming from in that first pic?

Is that the "Dark Prince" in the screens? He has the same eyes as the guy on the left hand side of the teaser page.

I freaking loved Sands of Time.

So, should I or should I not give Warrior Within a chance?
You should! The fun is still there! At least rent it if you can. You gotta get the second ending though, since it's after that POP3 takes place.

I really had an idea at a time and I am getting to belive more and more in it.

I think the sequels after the original Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time are just unnecessary.

This is what I don't get. Ninja Gaiden, and Thief exist, so who the hell cares of free range fighting, or steath elements in Prince of Persia? SoT was excellent for it's strong platforming. Why is Ubi so dumb not to focus on their strengths?

Ubi is giving me smoldering rage.

I was just talking to Agent Dormer over IM about this. Here's what I said.

StrikerObi: I am going to sneak a gun into E3 this year

StrikerObi: AND SHOT EVERY SINGLE FUCKING PERSON FROM UBISOFT

StrikerObi: ALL OF THEM

StrikerObi: and then I am going to shoot their corpses, rip out their eyes, and shoot a movie of me skull fucking each and every one of them. I will then send copies of this tape to every family member of every Ubi Soft employee

StrikerObi: after the tape is finished running, it will explode, killing their family members

Agent Dormer: ...

Agent Dormer: :(

StrikerObi: dude

StrikerObi: there's a "Dark Prince"

StrikerObi: the image is split in half

StrikerObi: I'll bet you a dinner that the prince now collects souls or something similar, and upon collecting enough he goes into "ultra angst mode" where he turns into a dark shadowy figure and kills with 100x more efficiency and brutality

StrikerObi: fuck

StrikerObi: I just banged my head into the wall I'm so upset

StrikerObi: a bit too hard probably

Well I hope it turns out good. I think I'll just skip the 2nd game and pretend it never happened.
Well.. uh, it's thanks to that game this game exist. You cant pretend WW doesn't exist when you play POP3. You gotta bite the apple or just ignore the whole serie.

Or he could just read a FAQ for it and save himself from an experience that could ruin the series for him. Believe me, it almost did for me... well, it actually did... I just hold the tiniest speck of hope PoP3 will at least be as good as the first one and they find a way to return the game to its roots.

Yes that works too. I just want him to know the story before jumpin on POP3.

I still think he should get/rent it. The fun is still there, despite the angst :P

I'd have to buy the 2nd game to know the full story? Hey I just liked the first game, plus I don't buy these games for their storys, theyre not rpgs so I can deal without the 2nd game.

I think you're just being a stupid troll. I can't speak for the POP games but the SC series has been white hot. UBISOFT hasn't just been releasing sequels with only different missions. SC:PT introduced the killer innovative multiplayer mode, sharper graphics, and a set of new moves and improved A.I. SC:CT raised the bar again with (arguably) the best looking xbox graphics, an online CO-OP mode, new moves, more paths, and more freedom in deciding how to play the game: action or stealth. I think many of you are just talking shit for the sake of it when it comes to UBISOFT. Like I said before I don't know anything about POP, but Ubisoft has been doing a wonderful job with SC.

Ok, here's the story:

He played with the Sands of Time. He was supposed to die, yet he didn't, now HE MUST PAY! A seemingly unbeatable beast is sent after him and he needs to find a way to stop it and well, get out of the mess. He gets ANGRY and decides to go to the fantastic Island of Time or Chronos, or some derivative name, where the SoT were created. On the way there, he gets ANGRIER. He battles with some other ANGRY fellas, beating the pulp out of them. He dies and becomes an even ANGRIER form of himself (ugly too, but looking EDGIER.) Anyway... he kills the boss, remains alive, and gets off the island.

I'm not shitting on spliter cell, and I don't think anybody else really is either. Ubi has done a good job with th series. Let's put it this way, what they're doing to Prince of Persia would be like making Sam Fisher a metrosexual (which is basically the opposite of what they're doing to the Prince, making him all angsty), and replacing the soundtrack with the theme to Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.

Splinter Cell is a stealth game about a government operative. So is SC2 and so is SC3.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was basically a story of adventure and love built into a killer platforming game with combat elements. It was set in a fantastic environment with beautiful scenery.

Prince of Persia WW (and from the looks of it, POP3) are games about angst and darkness and killing and all that sort of shit. Don't forget female characters witih huge breasts and dominatrix outfits, oh and a soundtrack by Godsmack.

IJoel-wow thanks for the story there. See thats not so bad with me,atleast I know whats happened now,and you've probably saved me some frustration by not buying the 2nd game, because i can't stand a game that's got bug issues and by all accounts I've heard of this through many forums. So I'm all for the 3rd one, let's just hope it turns out as god as the first.

Thanks again for the racap:)

someone posted screens of pop: sands of time in that "best lighting" thread. i'd forgotten how much i liked the pre-angst prince. they're essentially reusing the warrior within design...this is an act of overt ill-will towards fans of the first game. remember when ubisoft released beyond good and evil and prince of persia within the span of a month or so, and were briefly a fanboy darling? what happened? now it's only a matter of time before we see TOM CLANCY'S PRINCE OF PERSIA. :/

He's also the one the real Prince left for dead. Remember?

Hm, must've been in one of the cutscenes where I didn't get any voices ;)

Seriously I don't remember, is it when he got the mask?

Bought SoT. Loved it. Didn't buy WW and definitely not buying this one. Ubisoft is trying hard to turn people away from this franchise and its working.
