First PSP web browser hacked within Wipeout Pure's download section

Remember all those threads with Nintendo fanboys gibbering about how they could someday browse the web with the DS?

HAW HAW.

Man, I can't wait for next year when I can with all confidence say BUY A PSP.

Shut the fuck up. Why do you continue to post of these forums when you are an obvious troll.

What about this thread even requires the name Nintendo be thrown around. You're pathethic.

This is like that uncomfortable moment where you make fun of your friend's mom, a joke that would normally be taken in context, but what you don't realize is that your friends parents are getting a divorce. Dad is drinking and mom has been exposed in an affair. Suddenly, the friend flies off in a rage, tears in his eyes, "Stop it you bastards!" What has happened?!? How were we supposed to know?!?

i just want to be hated. izzat so very wrong? :(((

sometimes i cry out "why can't you accept me?" and then i realize that there's nobody in range of my pictochat session :(

So Drinky Crow is a drunken slut?

that means the demand's low for PSP ....

If the NPD numbers put the PSP at, say, 500k sold for the week, would your opinion be that PSP demand is low?

Sony should've shipped 400k so we could all hear about how it sold out everywhere and how people paid off their mortgages with their eBay conquests :lol

I usually lurk here all the time, but when I read this, I just spit out my coke.

Haha, well done.

Back to something posted earlier in the thread... tate mode shooters. I've thought of this, I could totally see a 90 degree rotation of the buttons... but what would you use to fire? the L button? I just don't think that would work out too well - wish it was like the Wonderswan or even oldskool GBA, which had buttons right to the south of the D pad. Though if there was a good way to pull it off, a tate shooter would be AWESOME!

tate mode shooters on psp are not a hypothetical -- you can play galaga on namco museum that way. you can use the analog nub to fire, but it's easier just to use the face buttons. it looks strange, but the psp actually nestles neatly in your palms, and i think it works great.

No, he hasn't done anything. He hasn't modified any PSP software at all.

The Wipeout download section is simply a web-browser. That browser, by default, is set to contact ingame.scea.com and request a certain directory (i.e. /wipeout/). All this person has done, and I have done, is to change the name servers in the network settings section on the psp to point to a personal DNS server...which then resolves ingame.scea.com to whatever you want.

Simple -- and not proof the PSP is hackable at all.

Wait a minute so in plain English, if I have a PSP, WipeOut Pure and I'm in a public WiFi hotspot, what do I need to do to get online via this "hacked" browser? And will I surf at broadband speeds?

Go online with your PSP and Wipeout Pure now..

Here's me browsing PGC Pocket on my PSP

I tried posting from my PSP but the browser was extremely slow and also logged me out right when I finally got the cursor over "Post Reply" in this thread. Still, browsing GAF on my PSP is hilarious. :lol

Wow, that looks impressive! So the screen can take the GAF page without having to scroll sideways?

No, Buddy photoshopped that. The browser mentioned in this thread requires scrolling to view a full page.

I'm sorry but why are PSP owners getting their panties wet over this?
Because it's 5AM and there's nothing better to do? It's cool, that's all. Nothing amazing, but a small glimpse at what's to come in terms of the PSP as a web/email/apps machine.

But wouldn't a stylus and DS config work better than a PSP? I mean, trying to browse the web on my pocket PC is already an inconvenient and slow, I don't feel like lugging a PSP keyboard around when I'm on the move or taking a dump.

Typing in URLs is a bitch, ya...but you figure there are a handful of sites you actually want consistent access to when you're on the go. Thus the reason for having a portal page of some sort with a bunch of links on it.

No, because DS sucks and no one owns one.

A PSP-friendly bloglines-style XML feed reader would be dizzope. Does the PSP browser support frames?

One moment you say the DS stylus would be better than the PSP for browsing, the next you say your (presumably stylus interfacing) Pocket PC is inconvenient and slow. WTF?

If the tiny DS screen has enough resolution to support webbrowsing I will eat your hat.

I see where you're going with that, but apparently the browser in wipeout does not :(

BTW, I have no idea how you could make web browsing readable on the DS. The resolution is just too low. And the PSP's screen has more pixels in total than the two DS screens put together. :/

Just scale according to the resolution. Though you'd have to scroll a bit more, horizontally anyway. They apparently have decent enough browsers on cellphones now - there's a "smart" mobile version of firefox that rearranges the page to suit lower resolutions and smaller screens. Someone needs to get it onto, and optimised for, PSP and DS ASAP :)
