I don't trust IGN, but I am going to watch it just for the colors :lol
Pretty much the same for me. Looks like an interesting world, and who doesn't like crazy over the top racing, right?

"Spritle and his accomplice Chim Chim the chimp"

:lol christ

I'ma gonna watch this. it gives me a great F-Zero GX feeling. Man, that game was ace

Actually I think Empire's review came out first and that was 3 out of 5.

It’ll split the ranks like a pizza cutter: you might admire it as a Warholian blur of pop art, gawp and gasp at its Hot Wheels-for-real dynamism, or get a headache.

It's going to... really suck. But because nerds have no taste and will line up like lemmings for anything that jerks off their nostalgia addled tastes, it will make lots of money and more shitty movies will be made from licensed products that don't deserve to be resurrected as bad cartoons, much less movies.

How's that?

That's pretty bad. I didn't know about this comic and I'm not a Waichowski fan. This looks like a freaky drugged down visual experiment of grand dimensions. "a blur of pop art" is exactly what I expect from this movie.

you're wrong about only one thing: The japanese cartoon didn't suck. It had bad animation, I concede, but the script was ace..seriously, it was high level

More reviews are hitting...seems like the razzle dazzle is too much for some this ol' critics. OTOH, the storyline and characters seem (expectedly) flat and one-dimensional.

Still interested in seeing, as the races seem really awesome in the trailers...although I'm not sure how awesome are they gonna feel in theaters set to the movie's soundtrack.

bias warning - I am involved in the making of the videogame so have a vested interest in the movie doing well.

I enjoyed the movie when I saw it just over a week ago. A lot closer to the original series than the trailers would imply and moreso than I expected given what I already knew (lots of little nods to the series here and there). Some feel good moments that make you feel warm inside as well as tense moments during the action (the last hour especially is full on).

Good performances from the whole cast, with Susan Saradon and Paulie Litt (Sprittle) being surprise standouts, though less fond of Kick Gurry's performance as Sparky.

I think the unique look of the visuals might be an acquired taste. Some will love it, some not so much. As somebody with an eye for the unusual I liked them (I enjoy stuff like City of Lost Children and anime), and I thought there was only one sequence where it was perhaps taken a little too far (and even that was fun and enjoyable in an over the top way).

IMO the movie will certainly appeal to anime, comic, and videogame fans, but its also something you can take your kids to or bring along a date. If you like you action flicks super realistic then the film may not be for you, but I suspect those with that sort of taste will have already decided not to see it based on the trailers.

Am looking forward to seeing it again with our team when it opens here in NZ (over a month away :( ).

I will watch this not expecting a lot so that hopefully I will be pleased. I dont like what I have seen so far.

sounds like a case-to-case basis, to me!

Okay, just back from a midnight showing.

Speed Racer was fucking awesome! I don't even know what to say. Time and space are somehow destroyed yet made coherent. Irrelevant yet utterly immediate. Or something. I can't articulate how it works yet, but it's pretty interesting. Aside from two people next to me that walked out early on, the rest of the audience dug the hell out of the movie. Lots of crowd reaction. Midnight shows like are a fucking blast.

Reading some of the reviews makes me believe some of these professional critics need to retire and move to nursing homes. Was A.O. Scott really confused by the opening half hour? I can't for the life of me understand how a non-senile adult couldn't easily make sense of the 3 or 4 shifting time periods. It sounds like a lot, and while transitions are visually seamless and quick, it's still damned obvious due to all the other cues upon switches.

Also, I sure as hell didn't know going into it, but Richard Roundtree's in this!

Heh, and there were more than a few moments where I really wanted to yell out "Raaaainnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!" :lol Colbert's voice kept popping into my head.

100% undeniably agreed

it will be a mandatory purchase on blu-ray, as well

The movie is flat-out amazing if you just let it enter your heart...incredibly-well edited and well-plotted (not to mention, beautifully scored by Michael Giacchino), this film is a fucking blast. The characters are solidly realized and extremely likeable, and the last climactic sequence blew my mind with its awesome over-the-topness: I literally had to inhale and exhale after seeing that shit.

Believe me, if you go in ready to have a blast, you will. I know I'm going to get shit over this, but I liked it a hell of a lot more than Iron Man. Go, Speed Racer, GO!!

A movie about some idiot who speeds around in his car with a monkey and small child trapped in his trunk is considered "high art"?

Well duh, these are either really hardcore people, or people who don't have jobs. Looks like extreme eye candy. I'm gonna get really drunk and trip out when I see this.

IGN has the worst reviews on the web.

IGN with video games is one thing.

But I don't trust IGN's word with anything involving movies. I mean, didn't they give Iron Man a low rating?

Yeah, I'll just see this one for myself.

Box office anal-cysts are giving this one some pretty abysmal weekend predictions. Seems like another easy win for the downey.

They gave Ironman 4/5. They aren't the best site on the net for reviews, but they aren't terrible. Still, I can't wait to see this in high def.

I cannot believe how fucking wrong the critics are on this one.

Like, this is tragic.

The kung-fu action sequence in the mountains was the GREATEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN. I wanna see the fucking movie again JUST FOR THAT SEQUENCE ALONE.

seems like one of those movies that happen to inadvertantly be stoner films

in other words, cant wait to see it. and even though i haven't seen you its blatently obvious the critics are taking the film way too seriously

THIS is how a live action cartoon should be done. I highly recommend anyone who has yet to see it to find an IMAX theater to watch it in.

I'm gonna take some LSD and it's gonna bruise my mind.

But the reviews seem to say it sucks so maybe not. I'd hate to risk drug induced psychosis on a shitty movie.

think I'm gonna wait for the dvd on this, if at all. I wish i could see in this what some of you see, but while I sort of admire what the Wachowskis are attempting, I just find it so visually unappealing...

(not to mention that none of the critics I trust liked it.)

I feel like I'm going to be hated for this, but that looks retarded. IDK just doesn't look that great of a movie(story wise not eye candy wise)
