I'll be catching this tomorrow. I loved watching the series back when it was on Cartoon Network. That 7 minute preview was amazing. I'm really looking forward to see it now.

I love how people are panning this film without even seeing it.

Just. Fucking. Watch it. And be open when you do. Then we talk about potential faults.

This movie was totally balls-out amazing. I love the new filming styles the Wachowskis attempted for this film. The action-side of the film is mindblowing.

It deservers all the money the overhyped mediocrity is grossing.

Hush. The Marvel ninjas are reading.

Glad you enjoyed it, jett. :D

I LOVED Iron man... But I LOVE this movie just a bit more... However I feel like I visually got raped after watching it at the Imax midnight showing...

But what an awesome movie this is, people... go watch it!

Just got back from IMAX, and Holy fucking shit on toast..this movie blew me away.

I wanna go back, then go back again.

From one of the trailers I think I saw the Mammoth Car. Is it really in the movie? Because that alone I will cream gushers of love over this movie.

It is, modified of course, but it's definitely featured in a small action sequence.

Its not the Mammoth car, but it is definitely a homage to it.

I loved how they turned the rally race into Death Race 2000, did not expect that and it was great.

Awesome movie. My wife hated it though, so it will be love it or hate it thing I think. Most kids should eat it up though. The visual style is amazing, and the story is actually pretty good considering it honored the cartoon really well. And even though it is a family film, they left the guns in, the thing that got Speed banned from American children's programming. I am going to love this on Blu Ray.

I think I am going to get the Wii game tomorrow, although I have serious doubts of it living up the actual racing scenes in the movie, because that would be one hell of a game.

The only negative I would have about the film from a Speed Racer fans perspective, they really pussified Snake Oiler, but I kind of get it, they made him slimy like a snake.

Just got back from a packed Imax showing and I have to participate in the love-in. I absolutely adored the movie. If you've seen the trailers you know if it's going to be for you or not; it's as simple as that. If you were ever a fan of Speed Racer even a little please leave GAF and head to the next available showing. Even if you aren't, a movie has never looked like this before. Give it a shot with an open mind and you won't be disappointed. At the very least the movie is packed with so much visual stimuli you'll never be bored.

Also, Losties... fantastic homage to the show in the film! Super blatant.

Tell me. I've seen this referenced elsewhere but it obviously blew me right by.

"It's a me..."

This movie is a visual atomic bomb. Loved it.

I had a migrane afterwards and nearly vomitted on the drive home. But that may be related to other factors.

Seconded.
OK. Lost-reference spoilers ahead!
It takes place after the "ninja fight." Racer-X is talking to Taejo, who has just been poisoned. He tells him he won't be able to race, and he shouldn't even be able to stand up. Taejo stands defiantly, and says "Don't ever tell me what I can't do!" Pure John Locke. Of course, it doesn't hurt that he says it to Matthew Fox while Michael Giacchino's score is blaring!

Worst movie I've seen since Stealth. 2 hours of complete boring poorly written shit and about 15 minutes of very colorful yet poorly choreographed action. If you're in the 8-15 age category it may well be the best movie ever since you're in the target demographic for it. If not you will likely find the movie INCREDIBLY boring.

This movie is the mental equivalent of what I imagine anal rape is. To even mention this garbage in the same vein as Iron Man is - well, I can't even describe how poor that is. In fact, I think this is actually WORSE than Stealth.

No and amazingly no Car Acrobatic Team either considering it to be one of the best villains for this market and plot.

Kinda think your true colors shown through there...lol I have high doubts you even saw the movie. So I guess Iron Man has fan boys.

Of course he does. I am a proud member of the Tony Stark Defense force.

Yeahhhh..

Don't think so. Heh.

LOL. I loved Iron Man. Robert Downey Jr. is great as Stark. I just wish it had more action scenes like the desert town, that was cool as hell. But it was just the first, so it had to have all the character development. Which did raise the movie to a higher level since the character development was so good.

You don't need character development like that is Speed Racer, they are what are, but I was surprised at how well done it was too. Not overblown and did not make you wait for the action too long. Some parts were quite touching. Just the right level for Speed.

And I guess he really did see it with the Car Acrobatic Team comment. But I appreciated the Death Race 2000 take on that race, and who knows, maybe Snake joins the Car Acrobatic Team in the sequel and seeks revenge.

So I never actually watched the cartoon. Were the original race Tracks really this F-Zero? The movie felt exactly how I imagined an F-Zero movie would be, with the neon lights, crazy masked racers, and all the spinning car attacks. Plus it had some 60s anime cheese thrown in between (in a good way of course)

No. Actually the good races were more like the Cross Country race. They did some early test track stuff that had some wild twists and the episodes that feature the GRX were like that. But the Brothers really took the races up a notch from the cartoon. I mean the cartoon would have the Mach 5 do something special once or twice in the whole episode, the Brothers made it a jumping bean...lol Pretty cool what they did.

HOLY SHIT

Awesome movie. :D The racing scenes are incredible and the visuals were stunning. :O

The reviews made it seem like it was terrible but the movie is AWESOME

well they made some great choices! made me want to play a speed racer videogame! Too bad i doubt it will be as good :(

yeah, this is part of the reason I enjoyed it so much. was really expecting it to be bad from the reviews, plus I hated the Matrix so I almost didn't go.

How issssssssss Giacchino's score, BTW?

It's one of the best scores ever written for a movie. I've been listening to it for the past few days, even before seeing the movie tonight and its fucking wonderful. Just like the movie. Holy fucking shit I thought it was incredible and the last race is one of my favorite sequences ever put on film because not only is it fast with incredible camera angles and visuals, but part of the race was extremely moving and added a whole other element to just the action.

I REALLY wanto to see it, but all my local cinemas have it with spanish voices =(

I'll go and see it anyway, then buy the DVD if I really like it so I can hear the original voices.

I am grateful I did not read the reviews. After seeing and loving Iron Man this week, I almost passed on Speed Racer. And if I read the reviews I would have waited till DVD. But I may see it again in the theater, I think I want to see the IMAX presentation.

Personally, gaf over-hyped Iron Man for me. After watching that last Friday night, i walked out completely underwhelmed. Maybe it was just wasn't for me?

SPEED RACER, on the other hand, blew me away. I saw it tonight at a packed IMAX screening here in NYC. Bloody awesome! Compared to V For Vendetta, SR was soo much more fun to witness(not to put down V's art style either, pacing was too slow).

I'd say the reason its getting such bad reviews is because this movie is really targeting a specific older audience (obviously anyone under 10 is gunna love it). It's got its own specific niche crowd. I can totally understand why critics who are so focused on key-character development and a cohesive plot would pan SR, but I mean, it's the WACHOWSKI BROS! They've pushed the visually sensory envelope with the Matrix, and I think they've nailed that style again with SR(I couldn't help but think of Murakami paintings when watching this). I'm gushing. I loved it!:D

I loved it. I was actually quite impressed with the caliber of the story, but I guess not everyone agrees with me there. The visuals were everything I expected and then some. Loved all the nods to the tv show (more than I can even remember)... seeing Speed doing the jump out of the car from the intro of the show was awesome.

My BF really wants to see this.. I haven't had much interest in it because honestly, I really didn't like The Matrix. The first one was alright but couldn't even get through the second movie.~ but I'll probably see this anyway since I know he really wants to. :lol Hopefully it turns out okay, glad you guys have some good things to say about it. :)

I watched it today. It was entertaining, but nothing really special aside from the crazy visuals. The art direction was really weird and somewhat.... fruity. Everything was bright flashing purple, pink, etc. The movie looks like it was built JUST to kill every single person that could suffer from a seizure. Every detail in the backgrounds are moving really fast and flashing. :lol

Ricci was cute, Rain was kinda hot, Matthew Fox was Jack, kid and monkey was annoying. The entire movie feels like a kid-centric rollercoaster ride more than anything else, and it reaaaaaally long. Running at about 2 hours 30 mins, its pretty okay for adults, but for the kid audience its going for it makes for a pretty painful experience in the cinemas since the kids lose their attention span after the first 90 mins and start talking. It was entertaining though, in a saturday morning cartoon sort of way.

wow, what were they thinking? anything over 80 minutes is more speed racer than i can handle

This is like reading Harry Potter in movie form. Terrible. The fucking kid and monkey what the fuck.

It's hard to call it the worst movie I've ever seen, but jesus fucking christ that was bad.

The races were almost cool, too.

Speed Racer "That move is weak!" "Don't use those weak moves!" He was like a fucking NPC in a Final Fantasy.

Holy shit talk about mixed reviews:lol

Anyway got back from seeing it in a pretty "meh" theater and I'm still freaking blown away by just everything... EVERYTHING!!!!!

I can't believe how on the whole, this movie has been negatively received. The trailer makes this movie look awful in my opinion. Needless to say, everyone needs to go RIGHT NOW to see this movie. NOW!!!
GO!
