I liked him before as a director, but as a writer i'm curious, since as far as i remember, the opinions for Sin Nombre were sort of polarizing (didn't watch it myself though).

The trailer looks very interesting though.

There's nothing new there. The major theater chains have been vehement about this since distributors first started experimenting with VOD releases a decade ago.

Sad and true. I'd rather see it happen more often and force these big chains to accept it as the future of streaming. I love going to the theater once in a while but I only make it special occasions due to not having a good independent chain in the area with strong policies against loud people and other annoyances.

Wow this looks great! Fukunaga is very talented. I'm sad he's not doing True Detective, but I can't wait see all his future projects.

It's 'By The Kiss' by M83: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBxDdTUOEH4

Incidentally, a lot of their other songs sound similar too

In The Cold I'm Standing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNkK1Nw8zlI
Sister (Part 2): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rD5lryXpt2o
Where The Boats Go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stsFaf3A7Aw

I don't think the other sounds the same, In the Cold I'm Standing does because it's essentially the same song -- he just re-mixed it for a soundtrack he was doing for a short film called By The Kiss.

"AMC, Regal, Cinemark and Carmike — will not screen the film as it breaks the traditional 90-day exclusive theatrical window."

Greedy shit cinema chains.

Don't these cinemas have VOD like Curzon Cinemas in UK? Or BFI? Or Film4?

No wonder day-and-date or even a week later digital/cinema release isn't becoming a reality is because of these chains.

You'd think they'd be in favor of moving more movies through the theaters by reducing the time commitment. They'd still see it first if it was a 60 or even 30 day window. People go to the movies for the experience too, not just to see it first. I wouldn't watch a really big release on my home system if I had the option and the time to see it in IMAX, even if they came out at the same time.

Theaters had better figure out a way to provide value to the studios in a future where a movie can instantly appear around the world on any number of services.

I wonder if that's just an excuse to avoid eating the cost for a film that -- I have to imagine -- most people will just watch on Netflix anyway, given how much cheaper and more convenient it is.

In turn, the four largest theater chains — AMC, Regal, Cinemark and Carmike — will not screen the film as it breaks the traditional 90-day exclusive theatrical window

They probably just want some special content to give their theater customers a first class experience. Maybe a Battletoads character added to the movie?

The last time I saw a trailer this good with similar vibes was American Sniper and it end up being a let down (for me). Cary's work is amazing but keeping my hype controlled for this

WOW. This looks absolutely fantastic. Can't wait.

New statement released from Fukunaga:

Fukunaga said:
In accordance with AMC, Regal, Cinemark and Carmike's parity clause, we have decided to digitally replace Idris Elba's character in the film with the Battletoads. We feel that this will add a unique flavor to the experience which you can have EXCLUSIVELY at participating cinemas this holiday season.

I think this is based off a book

I've been looking forward to this ever since it was announced, Fukunaga has done great work before (watch Sin Nombre and Jane Eyre people) and looks to do so again.

He did Jane Eyre? I'm not surprised. That series was basked in a visual melancholic mood.

This is the mood missing in true detective. Damn what could have been
