Also, the star of the big Superman trailer debuting next week is apparently… a dog?

I hope we get a moral Superman with a twinkle in his eye, and also a power set that isn't to the "Godlike" level where he can basically manage any cosmic threat solo. Give him the strength of just 10 men, not 10,000, flight but not trans galactic flight, eye lasers that can't cut through 5 feet of hardened steel in an instant, stuff like that. Reigning him in is key to having him work as the main protagonist, I think.

Is this like where his cape doesn’t get damaged by bullets because of “hey shut up stop asking maybe it’s his super aura that extends to clothing layered over his body but not to people”?

Cos it looks like his super not-needing-to-breathe-in-space superpower is affecting the dog.

Days like these...

Have a Blessed Day
I'm cautiously pessimistic about this. I don't think I'm going to like it. The first shot they released soured me and now superdog? I will be happy to be proven wrong though

Ask me about my wife's perfect butthole
I have low expectations for all superhero shit at this point, but I do think Gunn makes some of the most “fun” of these movies (across both DC and Marvel.)

Superman just kind of bores me tho lol

I hope it's slightly corny and sweet without going overboard. We could use that right now.

Yeah, I hope so too. That Nolanization of Superman never sat well with me. I think Superman can be inspiring and exciting without becoming Batman. I mean, just look at Smallville's first exciting seasons that had an idealistic Clark struggling with himself and others around him without becoming a depressing show or cringe. It can be done.

This type of stuff might barely pass in comics without being cringe, but I hope they don't have anything as heavy-handed as this image in the film:

They can also polish out some of Superman's rougher past edges without modernizing him too much:

It's lucky that this is being made in a post-BLM era lest we'd have ended up with something like this:

I watched James Gunn’s suicide squad for the second time yesterday (I watched it when it was first released, and didn’t think much of it) was bored and decided to rewatch it and it’s actually kind of ok.

I did really enjoy the guardians trilogy (3rd was a bit of a let down)

I’m cautiously optimistic about what he has planned for dc but overall I’m a bit fatigued with superhero movies.

Will it be another origin story? I hope we've moved past the phase where we, along with the hero, first have to figure out how they became who they are—where their powers come from, and so on.

Gunn says it's heavily inspired by the Silver Age Superman because we've never seen that era or tone in a movie before. Apparently Superman fights some kind of Kaiju in it.

Will it be another origin story?

Gunn says no Superman or Batman origin stories because everyone already knows them and retelling them is a waste of time.

Oh, the new Batman movie will still have daddy issues, only this time BATMAN is the dad!
Father issues are ok. But I'm beyond done with superheroes still questioning their place in the world, are they living up to some vague memory of daddy, etc. Almost EV ERY one in the past 20 years has had these issues. Only Spidey, with Uncle Ben as the motivator, did it really well IMHO.

His manager (The Rock’s wife) didn’t just burn that bridge, she nuked it from orbit.
It's Hollywood, NOTHING is forever if there is $$$ to be made.

But yeah, I'm not thinking its gonna happen unless the Rock somehow starts his own Black Adam spin-off universe. I kinda liked the Shazam/BA stuff and would have liked to see more, the Cavill tease at the end rocked the whole theater, he clearly still has lots of fan goodwill as Supes. I feel Gadot worked much better as a pop in bit of help as well. Shit, I even liked Blue Beetle if you just subtracted out his dumb family (other than the terrori....errr 'revolutionary' grandma, she can stay :p The DC 'B-team' was pretty strong, certainly better than the MCU second-listers IMHO, if they could have just kept the budgets under control and avoided looney actors like the Flash guy I think it would have worked.

The guy who played Blue Beetle will continue since there is nothing in his movie that ties it to the old DCEU. Gunn already confirmed that.

Well, hopefully Zach Levi at least can guest star on Peacemaker S2, or at least Grace Curry...yummmmmm. Shazam as a character is too fun to abandon though the magic/gods stuff is probably hard to integrate with the rest.

I'm still holding out hope for a "Dial H for Hero" movie/show, that one was my jam back in the day. They never took any of my designs though :( But the fun of the concept and even the great H-O-R-R-O-R option would make for a fantastic show.

I’ve heard it’s supposed to be a Blue Beetle animated series with the actor returning to voice the character. And yes, the original BB film is to be kept DCEU-only in continuity.

Animated is perfect, as that means hopefully they can follow the 2000’s Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle comic run more closely (as the movie barely followed it), so Jaime can be in high school; The Reach, Guy Gardener, Peacemaker, and certain other DC characters from the run could be used; they can trade out that annoying uncle to bring in Brenda and Paco, Jaime’s two best friends; etc.

The Batman: Brave and the Bold cartoon and Young Justice cartoon both did a solid job of their version of the Jaime/The Reach storyline, but a Blue Beetle cartoon that follows the comic much more closely would be awesome.

The problem was that the villain was another Luthor real estate scheme.

Honestly could have lived with that if it wasn’t 2 and a half hours long. It really did nothing to earn that run time. Would have preferred a different plot sure, but I didn’t overall have issues with the plot itself if that makes any sense?

I've not seen SR since the theater, really need to revisit it just to see if I enjoy it more. I've always liked Routh and I'm glad he got another bite at the apple.

It has been a while for me so I actually need to revisit it as well. I remember Routh being fine, especially as Clark. Back when I watched it as a teen though, I didn't like the kid, Lois, or Lex's weird assistant lady. The ending with the kryptonite was a little silly too but that kind of became par for the course with the franchise.

I’ll be honest. I don’t necessarily hate the movie? But it goes on way too long which rapidly diminished how much I enjoyed it.

Yeah just checked and it's about 2 hrs 30 mins. That didn't help.
