First Tomb Raider: Underworld gameplay trailer

Damn, french dub in anime and games is so sexy.

It gives me vibe from tomb raider 2. I played the psx demo to death. The one with climbing on chinese wall (or something) and jumping of it into a tiny pool surrounded with tigers.

Btw. You always killed tigers in TR peeps. The original game and the sequel were actually renamed in my country to Tiger Killer and Tiger Killer 2: The Bloody Paw.

Can't wait to kill some more in this. :D

I say Uncharted keep its Gears of War shooting ways, and Tomb Raider stick to its hardcore adventure, platforming, and puzzle formula. That way, we'd have a clear point of comparison/difference between the two.
 
I pray to the heavens that the framerate has something to do with it being a shitty attempt at video capturing as opposed to actually running that awful. The actual game looks like it could be fun as hell, and the design seems like the tomb raider of old(a great thing)...but that framerate needs to go somewhere...somewhere like hell.

Disappointed until this issue is resolved :(

Of course it's a shitty capture and not the actual game, it stutters at regular intervalls even in cutscenes.

I don't know if I like that to be honest. I really liked Legends going away from that, and it was too damn isolative in anniversary.

I can understand why you wouldnt enjoy that sort of thing, but it really is what the original tomb raider was rooted in.
 
Looks like I'll be buying my first Tomb Raider game, question though since I never played any of them. I thought she died in one of the games :/.

That was CORE now Crystal Dynamics has bit more sense.

This. Tomb Raider has always been about isolation. Uncharted, on the other hand, seems to be all about gunfight with a little bit of platforming.

She "died" in Tomb Raider IV. The most recent releases (Legend and Anniversary) were parts of a reboot to the franchise, which means almost everything that happened in TR1 to 6 didn't happen in Crystal Dynamic's continuity, which spans Anniversary, Legend, and Underworld. If you're going to buy Underworld, make sure you play Anniversary and Legend first. Seems Crystal is going for a story-heavy TR game, which I like.

This is very true, and this is why I loved the first games (I still loved Legends, but not as much). It was you, alone, in a jungle with traps and sometimes other human involvement, but it was rare, which made it special. Although I enjoyed the dialogue between Lara and whoever was on the other end of the radio, I miss the isolation. I think the PS1's limitations in graphics almost made the game more atmospheric in some ways. I can't describe it in words, but there is something about the atmosphere in the first couple of games that is amazing.

Also, finding secrets and weapons, bullets, and medpacks was so much harder in the first couple of games. It really made you feel good when you found one.

Some enemies, actually. Put they're there for the occasional jolt amid the lonely, solemn, isolated atmosphere.

I was going to buy it on Xbox Live Arcade, but you have to have the Legends disk. :( I bought the Gamecube version of Legends.

But I saw in that thread that you highly recommended the Wii version. The controls aren't clunky or anything?

If you have a good PC, buy it for PC. It looks really good with highest settings and AA plus it runs in 60fps (at least on my rig with GF7900), it supports 360 controller out of the box + you can have custom costumes :)

Oh I know, and strange enough I didn't mind it in the original. I just felt Anniversary was just extra isolating or something, probably because of the much more detailed graphics.

You should get it on PC if you have that option. Console versions are all kinda sub par (all top up at 30FPS, whereas PC ver. runs at 60 even on mid-range hardware)

I would love to, but my computer is a piece of shit. I downloaded the demo and it was playable but not ideal.
 
Looks very much like Prince of Persia (I have yet to play the earlier to PC Tomb Raider games, though).

Environments look...pretty much amazing. Lara may look a little out of place, but I can live with it.

Frame rate of video is definitely terrible, and yeah, presumably that's just awful video capture. There was a lot of cutscene video in there, though, and not quite so much gameplay, unless I'm mistaken.

Verdict: DO WANT, but DO WANT PC VERSION. :( Hopefully it won't take too long, since it's on the 360?
 
The Gamespot player is such awful quality...ugh. Barely tolerable.

Games looking pretty decent, hope that it's primary platforming and exploring: combat has never been Lara's strongest suit.

Core was going to use Jonell Elliot in their Anniversary Edition, but Eidos canned the game before the recordings even began. :/ So I've heard at least.
Not that Keeley is bad or anything, but she sounds forced at times. I actually liked Lara's first voice the best. :D

Yeah, it is, but the "Bloody Paw" part really makes it look like a joke :P

This has always been the case (simultaneous PC/console release), and it had better stay that way. The portable versions of Legend and Anniversary lagged way behind, though. :(
