No more squats on leg and shoulder days any time soon. The position of the bar was too high on one of my sets and I screwed up my lower back.

Well fuck me, amazon no longer does EAS on subscribe and save. Guess I need to find a new protein.

What's your opinion of Optimum Nutrition?

As long as I can drink it and it's not expensive I'm fine. I was spending 35 a month (about) on EAS.

No problem man, hope it helps. Be careful with your shoulders!

Yeah Im definitely careful with my shoulders, my grandfather had shoulder surgery when I was younger and I saw how limited he became despite only being in his early 60s at the time.

Have you ever tried a suicide grip? It may relieve stress from your shoulders when pressing, it did for me. I got my cgbp over 350 for reps using this grip and the shoulder impingment went away.

http://www.elitefts.com/documents/false_grip.htm

I'll give that a shot thanks.

Just came back from doing HIIT, what a great feeling, so glad the track near me has a football field and soft surface as well so I can choose whichever.

That's how that USC football player almost killed himself bench pressing.
I would be very wary of thumbless grip bench pressing even if it means doing less weights.

You mean this idiot?

Johnson claims he was bench pressing 275 pounds in the USC weight room in Sept. 2009 -- part of the required football regimen -- when Jamie Yanchar, an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the football team, was "spotting" him.

While Johnson attempted to grasp the bar on his own, Yanchar allegedly struck the bar, knocking it off balance and slipping from Johnson's hands. The bar fell on to his neck causing severe injury and ending his college football career.

“I see people do the football bench press, where they are not tight to begin with," said said. "Then they do some kind of ‘let’s get jacked up movement.’ If you're a beginner and you are going to try to use a false grip and you're doing stuff like that, you deserve to have your teeth busted out. The false grip is not for beginners. It is for advanced lifters.”

Here's Coleman doing some reps with 5 plates using a thumbless grip

Also suicide grip for BB OHP is amazing.

man, its been a crazy week at the office. had to miss lifting on tuesday and yesterday.

gonna hit it hard today, gonna try to best my pr (for reps) on deadlift with 320 lbs x 3.

hopefully this can set the tone for the weekend.

lets go!

After taking off last week due to illness, I continued with the weights I was doing the prior week to that one. Today I was doing standing overhead press, and after the first set my right elbow started feeling sore. It doesn't really hurt and nothing cracks when I move it, but there is a small discomfort. Tomorrow is squat and deadlifts day. Do you guys think I should do the workout or skip it because of the shoulder thing. I just don't want to injure myself and lose multiple weeks - or worse months. I'll see how I feel tomorrow when I wake up.

That sucks.
Do they have any other whey on subscribe and save?

It looks like they may have done away with it all together.

I'm looking at twin lab right now since it's about the price I was paying for EAS.

Anyone tried the "chocolate surge" twinlab?

I'm wary, but it's the only one in my price range it seems.

neck.

Even Rippetoe advises against using thumbless grip while benching.

Yeah, but Rippetoe is a strength coach for novice/intermediate lifters.

EFTS and Dave Tate specifically are talking to advanced strength trainers/power lifters in that video Mrpants posted. He in no way is saying unexperienced lifters should use a false grip.

Thumbless grip scares the shit out of me. I wouldn't trust myself with that style grip.

THanks bud, here's hoping the "chocolate surge" version is ok too.

Holding a sec, shit isn't prime compatible so it's 5 dollars shipping.

My twinlabs subscribe and save got cancelled today. It's not too bad. Seems thicker than EAS and ON.

I wouldn't skip a workout unless it's a serious injury and impedes proper ROM.

Hi fitness-gaf. Just want to ask a question here. How far can someone go regarding their fitness with purely body weight exercises?
Crunches, planks, squat jumps, push ups and pull ups mainly.
What I do is I alternate between push ups and pull ups daily while doing crunches and planks everyday. Jump squats is done every other day too.

Is it counterproductive to train triceps together with chest or biceps with back?

I want to get off the treadmill and start running in the park again. I also want to time some stuff like my 1.5miles and my 300 meter, any good/cheap pedometers or whatever to do that? Don't have a smartphone yet :/.

Started working out again today, I really need to quit smoking. That shit is FUCKING me up in the gym, elliptical was hard as fuck after 10 minutes.

I want to focus on losing weight obviously but particularly my chest area. Bone wise I have a large chest that protrudes and the fat on top of that sticks out a ton. What are good exercises that focus on chest tone? Also I have a pretty big belly, what are good things, besides cardio, that can help that?

Pretty happy my apartments gym has a pool right next to it, good exercise and relaxing.

Age: 21
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 240-250, not quite sure
Goal: ~180
Current Training Schedule: Just started, I'm able to work out almost every day
Current Training Equipment Available: All the standard gym equipment, pool
Comments: see above

Will read the OP too.

So I did Pendlay Rows for the first time today. It was hard for me to reach the bar and it looked like my back was too bent over. Is the solution to bend my knees more? I might have described it weird..

Also, does it hit the core muscles as much as a regular bent over row?

I bought this and I like it a lot: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000GIURM2/?tag=neogaf0e-20

It's just protein, cocoa, and stevia. It doesn't have any junk vegetable oils, soy protein, or other artificial ingredients and contaminents that MuscleMilk and EAS have.

It's pretty expensive, but it's a huge tub and I get 95% of my protein from real food so this tub lasts me a long time. 2 months and counting and I've only used about 40% of it.

Hey all. I spend a lot of time in my office with nothing to do (my job isn't that face paced) and apart from the boredom I'm very aware I letting my body just sit there and I have to fight the 'eating because I'm bored' syndrome.

Can anyone recommened a set of exercises or something that you can do in your office? My best thought was to run up and down the stairs a lot XD

I'll never understand why amazon and other online retailers don't have the nutrition information anywhere on the item page.

Oh my goodness, I have missed you kids so much this past week!

Be careful not to offend any fatties by telling them they have the power to better themselves. Not cool.

Anyways, I see whey got harder to get cheap, so I'll definitely keep watching for deals to post for you guys.

So good to be back.

maybe try bending your knees more...are you able to use 45 lb plates on the side or plates of equal size? reaching the bar shouldnt be a problem if the plate youre using is large enough.
you can try doing rows in a power rack and then just adjust the side rails to a more comfortable height.

pendlay rows should engage your core pretty hard in order to retain proper spine angle.

Is there a variation of the standing overhead press where the bar only goes as far down as the nose then back up again? Some guy was (attempting to?) doing it behind me and I couldn't help but see in the mirror what he was doing. He was grunting alot so I can only guess it was intense!

Did the P90 Ab Ribber routine last night for the first time. It absolutely wrecked my tailbone/asscrack. Huge red welts and hurts to sit today. Anyone else tried this and experienced this?

I purchased the twinlab protein a while ago, and honestly it's not bad. When I mix it with milk it's pretty good.

I never got the point of such repetive ab isolation exercises. They don't seem to best from an orthopedic perspective. There's much better ways to work on your ''core''. Besides six packs don't are 80 percent diet anyway.

So I've been taking this Muscle Pharm Assault for the past two weeks and it's really starting to mess with my stools. They're almost liquid.

Anyone else have similar effects while taking Assault?

You can sit back a bit more where you'll feel a stretch in the hamstrings if they're tight, like you would on RDLs. Shins should be vertical, depending on how flexible you are. Your lower back should be completely flat while being parallel to the floor and your upper back should have an arch but not excessive. Your upper/mid traps should touch at the top of the movement, depending on if you have any muscle there. Your hip/lowerback shouldn't be moving at all during the movement, most people will use some hip movement to get the weight up which is incorrect for strict rows. Bring the bar to your upper abdominals below your chest, if you feel pain/discomfort in your lowerback then you're pulling the bar too high to your chest or rounding your lowerback. If the weight is too heavy your upper back will round and your form will be compromised. ROM is different for everyone depending on mass I bring the bar ~2 inches from my body.

No.

I did my back today and was supposed to do my shoulders, but tomorrow I do chest and arms. I'm thinking of going back to the gym later and doing chest, arms and shoulders in one shot, its actually bothering me that I didn't have enough time today to do shoulders.

I have never taken that product but have taken so many other supplements to know how the body does not like them. Some take time for the body to "get used to" the change in what you are consuming. Either give it time and see if it gets better or stop using it. Everyone's reaction differs with each supplement.

Also picked up a jump rope for some cardio at home.

At what weight shoulder barbell squats should I start front squats? Should I do them?

Is working out 3 times a week doing Starting Strength (and cutting about 200-1000 calories a day) good enough to lose weight? Or do I need a more intensive plan? I'm hoping to go from 220 to 180 or so before may.

I'm 5'9 and waver between 125-133.

Need to consume much more protein--but that shits hard for me. Stomach blows up and I feel like I'm dying throughout the day if I eat a lot.

40 pounds in 2,5 months is probably too much to lose in a healthy way. You can shoot for about 2 pounds a week, so 20 pounds should be doable. Dont cut 1000 calories regularly, its too much, but stick to around 500.

Do you guys have an opinion on personal trainers? I recently started going to the gym and had a complementary session with one, which was pretty informative. Is it worth it to invest in a PT or just go it alone?
