Yeah I can't even count the amount of "Gym Partners" I have gone through over the years. People just hate working hard in a lot of aspects of life.
Same here. I've had way too many friends who go to the gym with me for a bit and then after a few weeks it's excuse after excuse as to why they can't go. At least give me the courtesy of being honest so I don't start to rely on having you there. And quit throwing away your money on a membership you don't use FFS

Any pre-workout supplements you guys recommend? I took some a year ago, then went natural while I trained for a half marathon and did far more cardio than lifting (I wanted to be, and am, the lightest/fastest ive been since high school).

Im starting to hit the weights much harder and I was thinking of getting a pre-workout supplement. If you guys don't recommend it and still think i should stay natural then I guess lemme know why.

Are you just looking for energy? Coffee has never failed me.

I dont drink much coffee. And yes, its energy im looking for. Going from work to the gym has become increasingly hard because of long hours and sedimentary type of work style (staring at documents, researching etc)

Yeah this is it. What made you decide to drop more weight?

I'm really sensitive to caffeiner. So half a liter or so of black tea (no sugar or anything else) in the two - 3 hours prior to leaving work gives me enough of a kick in the pants to get to the gym

I've taken every prework out available, including Jack3d NO Explode etc. The only thing I'd recommend is Craze. No jitters, no crazy burning feeling, no insane rapid heartrate. Just awake and focused.

HOWEVER!!!! It will set your sleep schedule back if you take it too late. I'd start with 1/2 a scoop. It's really good stuff and never makes me feel wired or sick.

Black tea works really great as well as Poindexter pointed out and it will have worn off by the time you are going to bed.

Wasn't really a conscious choice.
I'm doing a couple half-marathons this summer. Running can be a bitch for keeping muscle on if your not watching your diet.

Does anyone have any good marinades that they use for chicken? I found a few in store ones for chicken breast and I was actually able to make some that was edible. But the in store marinades are usually filled with some shitty ingredients and too expensive for what you get to boot. But I figure someone has some great recipes for home that are both cost effective and healthy.

I don't do it myself, but peanut butter chicken isn't bad, and it's probably the best marinade for this thread.

I do BBQ and dry rub.

Another score in the Gaf Fitness bucket.. Just finished my first set of ATG squats. Can definitely feel the difference. I can feel it a lot more in the inner thigh/groin area and my quads feel tighter than doing parallels. I dropped the weight to 255 and managed to knock out 3x5.

Only negative is I do feel more tightness in my lower back but less knee pain. Is that how it goes with ATG squats? I doubt I can go any lower without feeling like I am going to tip over. But overall, good shit.

Thanks. I'll look that up. I've never been a fan of chicken breast in general. It has to be cooked EXTREMELY good for me to actually enjoy it. But for certain situations in my diet I need it so I should probably learn how to enjoy it. I generally dip it in Frank's Red Hot to make it edible lulz

Sorry but most people 99% won't achieve a real ATG/Full squat, 4-5" depth range, without compromised form.

Anyone have good exercises they'd recommend for removing rounded shoulders and a rounded/hunched over back (basically looking for a huge improvement in posture)?

Squats and deadlifts helped me a ton, though I'm told those incredibly funny looking glute raises with heavy weight are the absolute best. I might have the name wrong.

Deep squats, dead lifts, face pulls, stretching hip flexors, and a conscious focus on better posture during the day. Try to think of having your shoulders as far from each other as possible and to have your back always in neutral alignment.

I've finally added power cleans to my workouts. I added them to OHP days. It's a pretty fun exercise, though I'm lifting girlie weights right now. We'll see if it has any positive effect on other lifts.

wow so today was shit. kinda sorta under the weather, tired, late at night. only did 9 of hte 15 squat reps at 325. 10 of the 15 OHP reps at 125. and then i was like fuck it i'm just gonna get swole as fuck tonight. so i did. boy did it feel good lol. i miss the feeling of not being able to stretch your arms afterwards. i'm not counting today haha i'll retry this workout on thursday with proper sleep and at the right time of the day.

Can anyone link me to a bodybuildiing program? High volume kinda thing.

True. Okay so I did lower than parallel squats today and they felt great. I think I am going to stick with this method. The only thing this kinda sucks about them is that I seem to have to go a lot slower in my descend in order to get so low. Again being 6'2 makes it a little hard but I love them so far.

Put on 275 1x5 for my last set after doing 255 3x5 and it felt good. So I am 20lbs away from where I was doing parallels. Feels good man.

That looks like a solid split, but I would cut it back to 3 times a week were I to take it on. No reason to spend five hours a week doing what could be done in three. You pointed out how deadlifting with that frequency could be an issue, so you already know the volume is too high. Three days a week, M/W/F or every other day for a six-day training regimen sounds good. Lift heavier and take recovery as serious as your training (that's why you DL is 3x3, no?).

Keep bicycling to campus and run after your training. Fill your other days with awesome activities and enjoy your good health. And don't apologize for it.

Actually, one last nitpick. I'd do chins instead of pulldowns, but should you ignore this one the sky wouldn't fall down on you or anything like that.

Thanks for the input. I time-to-time take a jog down to a local park and do some chin-ups and other body weight exercises on the equipment there, then jog home, which I find very relaxing and fun; I'll look into adding in chin-ups full-time.

If the goal is swoletrophy, then why 3x3 on the deadlift? A heavy set gets the job done on the deadlift, and yeah, you'll need to shift deadlifting down to once a week since it's not an exercise that is easy to recover from when it gets heavy.

Another series of questions: Are you looking to gain/lose weight? Do you have any goals for your conditioning or are you doing lots of slow stuff to "keep in shape?"

Should I move my deadlift to a 3x5 or something if I want to see hypertrophy gains? I'm not sure I'm following what you're suggesting/asking, sorry.

I'd like to bulk up to around 180 lbs (so, about 13 lbs more than I weigh now) and of course would prefer it to be mostly muscle, though I'm totally fine with short-term fat accumulation, just in the long term (say, a year from now) I'd like to have a relatively low body fat (~12%, currently closer to 17% last I had any legitimate test done). "Keeping in shape" is my broad goal, but "lookin' hawt" would be a close second, if that answers your conditioning question at all. Again, sorry, not totally sure I'm following what you're asking.

Been struggling to find time to workout being new to these double shifts. It sucks feeling like your losing power but I'm sure 6 days off wont kill me.

ATG squats? Why would you do them over just putting a bench under your ass and going down like that? Or bands/chains? Trainers at my college got into an argument about ATG squats to the point that the lacrosse team continued to do them while the wrestling team stopped and other teams did whatever in between.

Do most people on the board do them? I personally mix it up, but when i do ATG i always go lighter since I know if I try to go heavy I will fuck up the postures.

i only go ATG during warmups, during work sets i go until my hips feel it and then go up.

What kind of liver? Like ezrarh posted above, beef liver isn't a good starting point? Or is it?

And how do you prepare liver?

Of all the liver I've had, calf's liver is by far the tastiest if cooked right and it's doesn't have as strong a 'livery' taste as otehrs can. Chicken livers can be pretty great too.

Fuck. During warmups on squats my knees felt weird so I didn't do my working sets (which sucks cause I felt really powerful at the lower weights). They weren't really painful, but they just felt really weird, and then I felt them and it felt/looked like there was some excess fluid on the inside part of the knee, so I said fuck it. They were still really sore from last workout, so I guess I'll quit doing squats for a little til my knees aren't sore and see what happens. I don't want to hurt myself for a PR.

Did 240 x 3 sets x 5 reps on bench. Got a 6th rep on the 3rd set and could've gotten a 7th easy with a spot.

Did 325 x 5 reps on deadlift. No chalk (forgot it in my locker), double overhand grip.

Thinking about permanently taking squats from 3 days a week to 2 days a week, and deadlift from 2 days a week to 1. Still need some more data though.

And holy shit I weighed myself at 270 just now.

Im about to go gym and attempt bench press with 40kg dumbbells for the first time. This is a milestone for me.

At the beginning of the year I was doing 30kg dumbbells. I remember thinking "One day....."

That's 5 months, mayne, not a year. Read it again.

saw a group of mid teen overweight girls with heavy perfume and makeup on walking at an obnoxiously slow pace on the treadmills in a row of 5. by slow i mean the treadmill speed was set to ~2 and it was peak time.. i didn't want to go near them as the smell was overwhelming awful.

surely most gyms have girls who go there purely to check out guys in an extremely vain attempt to pick up?

At my gym, I've yet to witness anything of the sort. Not many women come in to the gym unless it's to go on a running machine or to do some class.

They also changed the layout of my gym this year so the free weights are downstairs, probably in an attempt to prevent us from oogling at the dancers who are in the room upstairs. The free weight section was originally right next door so look-ins were frequent.

numbers, bodyweight, and time you've been lifting please

Im no expert but I have trained with people who have never been to the gym and helped them.

I started 1.5 years ago.

I couldn't bench the bar plus 2.5kg on each side for 10 reps.

now im up to 110kg bench for 8 reps granted i probably should be more but my diet at time has not been upto scratch and has stopped my maximization of growth. Thinking about it makes me angry that I could of done a lot better. Its just dedication.

I do change my workout every 4 weeks. I don't want to be stuck doing the same stuff and plateauing.

I tend to do a bit of crossfit aswell. I bought this app http://www.appsfortime.com/deckofcards/ and you have to do the exercises it says.

My weight is 12stone 1lb.

What numbers are you after?

I have nothing to prove.
