Fitocracy is great but the tracking system is kinda sucky right now.

Really needs graphs. The ability to view past workouts in the calendar would also be useful.

How is this guys?

8-9am Egg sandwich with a banana.

10-11am Gym Workout with whey protein drink when I finish

12-1pm Pasta with a banana and apple.

5-6pm Mummy's cooked dinner:)P). This can vary on what she does but its generally a good meal.

9-10pm Chicken breast fillet with chips washed down with some more whey protein drink.

I also only ever drink water during the day.

Im generally pretty pleased with this as im a bit of a novice at this nutrition stuff.

Edit: Also im not looking to lose weight. Just gain muscle.

Are homemade California Rolls (sushi) a decent meal on a cut? In moderation, of course.
Keep it post workout and you'll be fine. The carbs will go to restore glycogen instead of going to your belly. Just don't go crazy on the portions.

Ideally, I'd do sashimi. All protein. But white rice isn't terrible post work out.

My comments in bold. In summary, I would try to get protein in with every meal. You're looking to eat 1 to 1.5 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight.

Thanks for replying entrement.

I only use 2 eggs and I dont think im gonna change... I am on a budget here. Edit: I guess I could add more eggs...... it doesnt cost too much I suppose....

How do you suggest I add protein to my pasta meal?

And what should I have instead of chips?

Thanks

For the pasta? Easy, ground meat, which goes perfectly with tomato sauce and its cheap to boot.

Instead of chips, you can add peanut butter to your shake--natural of course. More clean calories and protein.

Chips are pretty empty calorie wise and have minimal nutrition. Whey is a good supplement. I'd also try BCAA--Branched Chained Amino Acids, added to your shake pre and post work out.

The key is to have protein every meal and eat clean--avoid processed food if you can. Some good protein staples to build meals:

Chicken
Ground Beef
Canned Tuna/Canned Salmon
Cottage Cheese
Greek Yogurt
Eggs
Natural Peanut butter

If you're in the UK you can get a one kilo tub of natural peanut butter for about £4.50.

Egg sandwich? How does that even work? Do you cook the eggs first?

Why not something like tuna + eggs sandwich?

Ummm I do my eggs in a frying pan and break the yolk and make a sanwich out of it.

hmm i see, just something that i could never get into i suppose.

anyways i suggest getting some oats and mixing it with protein for your 8am meal, it's fast and easy, it's termed proats and it actually tastes pretty good.

i'd keep the banana (maybe even cut it onto the proats) and have the egg sandwich in the afternoon if you want it (big gap between 1 and 5 - i couldn't stand that).. and tuna is amazing for protein, cheap/affordable and natural.

nope, never.. different cultures i suppose.

closest thing i have had would have been an egg and bacon sandwich/roll down at the local soccer park.

That would the style of sandwich he's talking about.

My apologies then. I always forget that GAF has a very culturally diverse userbase. These kinds of sandwiches are popular breakfast foods in the States, sold in deli's and fast food joints.

OK, im updating.

8-9am - Egg with canned tuna and a banana.

10-11am - Gym workout with whey protein drink 20 minutes after.

1-2pm - Pasta with mince meat added.

5-6pm - Mum's cooked meal with canned salmon on the side to make sure I get the protein.

9-10pm - Chicken breast fillet with salad and whey protein drink with natural peanut butter added.

11pm - Bed time.

That looks real good to me.

Ideally you should be eating more than just a shake after a workout as well.. I'm absolutely starving after the gym and normally have a bowl of cereal or peanut butter toast before showering and having my proper meal.

Your eating does look good and balanced though, just remember to eat when you're hungry, it's every 1.5-2 hours for me.

Posted a few months ago here and in the weight loss thread. I'm the guy currently deployed in the middle east somewhere, and am using the time to get into shape. It's worked out fantastically for the most part, just one issue.

Doing pushups, my right wrist is starting to give me trouble. It will only hurt slightly during the pushups, but the second I stop it hurts quite a bit. Pain goes away in about 1-2 minutes and doesn't return until pushups again.

I can bench, lift weights, and pretty much do anything in the gym without it bothering me. It's just the pushups.

Is this a sprain?

Bealost

Try doing a different variation of pushup. A lot of people prefer doing them on a closed fist, it increases the range of motion and will change the pressure on your wrist some.

It can't hurt to give it a shot, well I guess it can, but if it does you can always try something else.

Also, Thank you for your service.

I went to my local store and they didnt have natural peanut butter.

Is it so bad to have just normal peanut butter? It does have alot of grams of fat in it, I must say.

Don't eat tuna everyday. Too much mercury.

Canned sardines are a great alternative to tuna. Definitely less protein than tuna, but you also get more fat (omega 3), and the mercury level is really low due to them being small fish at the bottom of the food chain.

Walker, a health-conscious consumer, used to eat two to three cans of tuna per day for its health benefits.

Nobody that's health conscious would eat anything that often, let alone tuna. I thought a huge part of being healthy was a varied diet.

Lean tested Walker's body for mercury content and found it was four times higher than levels recommended by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Really, they also recommend that our diet should be based largely on eating carbs and eating fat makes you fat. This statement doesn't seem valid without some source on what these recommendations are and how they arrived at them, or if 4 times that is even dangerous.

It took one year for Walker's mercury levels to drop to normal after he stopped eating canned tuna.

So after not eating it for a year his levels went from dangerously high back to normal levels? I thought mercury didn't get flushed from things that ate it, which is why the higher up the food chain you go and the older the animal is the more mercury is present.

Safe consumption advice ranges from no more than one can of albacore tuna a week in some jurisdictions to none at all in others.

The new guidelines indicate that "Canadians can rest assured that there is no reason to stop eating canned tuna."

Seems to me like as long as you eat a reasonable amount (meaning not getting more than half of your protein from tuna every day) you'd be fine. Articles like this just seem to be scare mongering to me.

Read this: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/mroussell5.htm

It seems that eating 1 can of tuna if you weigh 200lb is fine. But personally, I wouldn't eat more than 1 can a day. There's a lot of contradictory info about this on the web though. I guess eating canned tuna is pretty popular among people who work out since it's cheap and contains a lot of protein.

edit: Here's a chart with data from the FDA: http://www.nrdc.org/health/effects/mercury/tuna.asp

I don't really trust the FDA... but mercury poisoning is a real risk.

By the way, what brand of protein powder do you guys use? I've working out for a while without any supplements but lately I can't eat as well due to school. I've noticed a decrease in my gains and want to see if whey protein can help. I looked at different brands and was thinking of getting the 100% whey gold standard one. I just don't know where to buy this at an affordable price in Montreal. Any suggestions?

PVL, Optimum Nutrition, Bio-X, Muscletech, Cytosport. It's all pretty much the same shit man aside from designer flavors.

I'm a fan of ON Natural Whey. Been using it for a couple years now.

Goal:170
Current Training Schedule:M-F I go to the gym before and after work. I usually do about an hour and half cardio and left weights for about an hour each day.
Current Training Equipment Available: gym
Comments: I want to lose weight and look good naked. I want to try and get to 170 in about 7 weeks. I'm pretty strict on my diet. I try to stay around 1500 calories each day. I eat tons of fruit and make sure i get enough protein each day. I'm worried I'm not eating enough. I have been really tired lately, but I'm guessing its because i get up earlier and am working out harder than I have in a long long time. Any tips on helping me lose the last 10 pounds or so. Also I want to get an awesome 6 pack.

For losing weight in the low bf% region, I'd probably say look at specialized diets like keto, lowcarb, intermittent fasting, etc.

Currently doing keto and I'm a few % points away from my goal.

You are in the gym too much. You want to look good naked? You'll probably want to pack on some muscle, which will require you to eat a little more. Aim for losing 13 lbs of fat but not necessarily getting down to 170.

I have a question about calories when it comes to trying to bulk up.

My goal is about 3,000 calories a day and eating normally I usually only hit around 2,500 after going through all my meals/required protein. Between the two options is it better to not meet my goal or meet the goal by adding in some unhealthy snacks?

I'm assuming that I just need to have a positive calorie intake, but if it means drinking soda or eating junk food should I even bother.

Weight goals are pretty garbage for cutting, remember muscle weighs more than fat. Use better metrics like BF percentage or a tape measure

Being tired is not good. That signals cortisol, a hormone which makes it hard to lose fat and encourages fat around the belly. Aim for 8-9 hours of sleep.

Like cuevas said, you're working out too much. You need recovery time for muscle growth. Do a M, W, F or T, Th, Sat routine and do your cardio post workout. That and remember to get 1 gram of protein per pound body weight and continue to eat clean.

Drink milk instead. Very easy to get the extra 500 calories with just a few tall glasses, plus you get the added protein and growth promoting properties of dairy.

I'm lactose intolerant unfortunately. Just drinking my protein shakes is giving me some issues that I'm trying to deal with.

I guess I'll have to try and figure out something else to add in. But I feel pretty full and most healthy snacks don't really seem to have many calories.

There is lactose free milk. Also, pure whey protein isolate has no lactose, if you're having problems with isolate/concentrate blends.

Grab some lactaid. For some reason I still had problems after switching to isolate so I ended up taking a tablet before each shake and I've had no problem since then even with milk.
