The Texas option looks like it's in Buffalo Gap. May be heading in that general direction in the Fall, if so I'll consider trying it.

This reminds me that I've never actually been to Burger Joint.

Hmm...maybe I'll go sometime this week. It's only a 10-15 minute walk from the office here.

I have to admit, Johnnie's is pretty damn tasty. However, my favorite is the Theta Burger--special sauce, shredded cheddar, mayo, and thick sliced pickles... OM NOM NOM

You need to shut your goddamn face. =p Also, I wonder if it really is better than Bobcat Bite's burgers. Those burgers are unbelievable. Since I'm in Oregon now though, I'll have to try the Skyline's burger. I'm partial to the Slowburger myself, however.

Lets see if the Food Network asks for Dijon when they go to Ray's Hellburger in Virgina. Obama's on trial here America.

I have to try the Seattle, Wa and the Portland Or burger! Although I had in and out burger and I didn't think it was particularly special.

It's good. I haven't eaten the burger though. I got the ribeye the first time and devoured the prime rib the next time. The steaks were some of the best I've ever had anywhere in all my travels, and considering the fact that I do a lot of food shooting for magazine restaurant reviews, and steak is one of my favorite things to eat, that's saying a lot.

I was shocked to see this on the list. It's a cool place, but it's out in the middle of nowhere, really. I'll check out the burger if I ever go back.

EDIT: Having never had that burger, my personal pick for best burger in Texas right now is the Butcher’s Block Burger at Neighborhood Services in Dallas, TX. People say a lot (good and sometimes funny stuff) about chef Nick Badovinus (formerly of Hibiscus, The Porch, Cuba Libre, ect.) but Neighborhood Services is a pretty damn cool little laid back place, and that burger is fucking AWESOME.

I have the Dork Burger (mixture of Duck and Pork) every so often, it's fantastic. The only problem with Lunchbox Lab is that they're extremely expensive. My wife and I dropped $42 for two burgers, two orders of fries and two Nutella shakes.

Absolutely bullshit. In-N-Out is not the best burger in CA, and Burger Joint in NYC is vastly overrated.

Burger lovers only have one guide - http://aht.seriouseats.com
They never said the best, just "one burger you absolutely have to try." But regardless, any list like this will cause debate. ;)

They also seem to be looking for different things when you look at the descriptions, so it doesn't seem consistent at all. Their description for In-N-Out: "Yeah, California has lots of highfalutin farm-to-table burgers, but ask locals where to find a good, simple burger, and the answer is In-N-Out."

Sounds delicious. In NYC we have a burger (Prune Restaurant) that mixes lamb and sirloin that's served on english muffins with a butter spread. Freaking fantastic, and the lamb adds an aged flavor to the beef.

While I think red chile is better, you can't go wrong with either in New Mexico. That state has BY FAR the best chile in the world. Not. Even. Close.

Yeah, I actually ate there 2 days before I saw this list for the first time, and it is indeed fantastic. Pricey, but fantastic.

That's not a real burger. Real burgers have, uh... ham.

Jeez..my grandparents lived like 4 blocks from the best one in PA (according to FN) and I never even heard of the place...sounds like a reason to head back into philly.

Mmmmm. and to think I used to live a 2 minute walk away from In n out. :D
I wouldn't trade CA burgers for the world.

I wonder if it's in a place where I can park and not get shot/hassled by bums if I go there.
That one sounds like a bitch to get though. The description:

"The cheeseburger isn't on the menu at this pub, for fear that it's all anyone would order. Two cheese-smothered chuck-and-brisket patties are topped with house-made bread-and-butter pickles and served on a brioche bun. Only 24 are available nightly at Burger Time, 10 PM, announced by megaphone."

Yes, more people need to experience the awesome of green chile

I'll have to try the burger for New Mexico sometime. I remember hearing about Bobcat bite burgers from the food network and they were amazing.

Just looked them up, and they're a good 3 hour drive from me. :( I'll end up visiting there eventually though.

A Green Chili Cheeseburger from the Bobcat Bite is incredible.

The world eh? I will take that challenge and present to you Old Mexico with Chile colorado and Chile verde, long simmered with tender pork.

Either way, I am sure both are delightful.

In'n'Out? Really? What the fuck....So they track down all these awesome small ddiners and local grills in the other states, but they fuck California over with In'N'Out? Why didn't they just put White Castle for NY or Jersey?

Oh, In'N'Out is probably the best fast food burger (though I think I'd say JitB's Sirloin with swiss and grilled onions beats it) but if someone came to CA and asked 'what burger do I HAVE to try?' I'd probably take them to either an awesome greasy diner (eg. Canyon Inn in Redwood City) or to a place doing some creative burger work (eg. Boomerang's in Clairmont).

No, this is almost the best thing about living here. I can get a green chile cheeseburger at just about any place here that serves burgers!

I live in New Mexico too, Albuquerque?

I think it's hilarious that California's best burger is from a fast food chain. Kinda sums up the state entirely.

New Mexico's climate is much better suited for growing chiles.
