Serious question: do you think Mourinho would be 11 points adrift if he was the United manager?

He seems to have cooled off and has expressed a desire to stay long-term at Chelsea. Even as a short-term post-Ferguson fix, it would've done alright.

It is a bit "if my aunty had bollocks..." but no I think he would have gotten more out of what he has to work with. I'm 99% certain he would have immediately identified the midfield area as weak, probably sign Van Ginkel.

The issue with Mourinho has never been his management skills, its his loyalty and at United its basically a requirement. I'm behind Moyes though, very little point jumping on the guys back halfway through a season with multiple areas in need of improvement and players (some iconic) clearly winding down their careers.

He would be doing well. The problem is he would leave in a year or two. United are long for a long term replacement. Moyes will come good.

the thing is, i don't know in this modern age of football with so much money involved (finishing out of the top 4 will be a huge blow) that you can do that

i mean you can, but there is so much pressure to keep fans worldwide and sponsors happy

also, don't know if current man utd owners have that much patience

I'm sure the level headed United fans will be happy with just some forward thinking progression more than anything, shifting out some deadwood for a start.

If you said we were signing just one player this window and he was a central midfielder I would snap your hand off.
We still have to be careful about getting rid of deadwood. Some will need to stay as we know we won't be able go replace them all in the space of one transfer window. Some of the names we've been linked to are hardly inspiring either. It's going to be a long process; one which would ideally start this window, but realistically the overhaul will probably have to start in the summer. That brings its own problems too. If we don't strengthen and fail to make the CL then we'll have difficulties bringing in players of the quality that we need and want.

We've a lot of players who are in need of being replaced. Rio is on his last legs and Evra has lost it. Then we have the never weres in Buttner, Young and Anderson. Giggs may well retire in the summer too. That's 6 players who need replacing. Then we have go tackle our problems in midfield. Need more quality. It's a very large task to tackle. Oh, Rooney will probably go in Summer too. Then we need ti find a player if similar quality to replace him. Let's not even get into the questions over how much money we actually have to spend. Moyes and Woodward say the funds and there, but it's easy to be sceptical when you look at our business done during the Glazer's ownership. So yeah, I don't even Moyes one bit.

Welcome to the thread btw.

This is why I really think Moyes should drop wingplay. Stick two up top, one in the hole, three in the middle.

I would try:

Kagawa ------- RVP ---- Adnan

---------------- Rooney ----------------

---------- Carrick - Fellani ---------------

Fabio --- Jones - Evans - Rafael

---------------- De GOAT ------------------

If we use wingers, I want wingers who will run at defenders or cut in and link up. Less emphasis on crosses. Similar to Hazard or Neymar.

Absolutely, this is no quick fix but Moyes can make a statement in this window that in effect might kickstart some of those on the bubble. He should be saying "this is the standard required at United", sacrifice a non-performer and see who rises to the challenge.

1 out, 1 in would be good going this window. The real job starts in June and like you said, its a hell of a job.

Not a fan of Kagawa as an AML, to be honest. He'll be better off behind one or two strikers. :p

One of my roommates came out of the closet today. I had never suspected a thing. Hell he had sex with a girl last week. Said he can't ever see himself in a long term relationship with a girl but he can see himself with a guy. Said he has never kissed a guy or had sex with a guy. Reminds me of Kenka's thread.

I am happy for him though. He has been very unhappy and mopey for a while so I hope this helps to improve his mood and outlook on life in general.

Here you go, Moyes. You can thank me later.

4-3-1-2
---------------- RvP ------- Rooney ------------
--------------------- Kagawa --------------------
----- New CM --- Carrick --- Fellaini -----
Fabio ------ Jones ----- Evans ------ Rafael

4-2-3-1
------------------- RvP/Rooney -----------------
Adnan ------------ Kagawa ------------- Zaha
--------------- Carrick --- Fellaini --------------
Fabio ------ Jones ----- Evans ------ Rafael

Welberg for RvP. A new CM. Sell Young.

Moyes play a formation that isn't outdated? I wish.

I'm not on the Moyes out bandwagon either, I think he has to be given more time (preferably 2 seasons), but you have to wonder what will happen in the worst case scenario, loss of Champions League Football.

Transitioning a SAF squad to the future might have best been done by a stopgap solution, while Moyes waited in the wings.

I've lately come to be really disappointed that we got rid of Park so flippantly.
I was sad to see him go, but I think it was the right time to sell. At his peak we used Park to hassle and harry in the opposition third. He had brilliant stamina and would run all day for you. He also defended quite well and would chip in with the odd goal. Fergie used him in a lot of our big games and he never let us down. But he was very poor in his last season for us. Stamina wasn't there and he wasn't as good in closing down as he used to be. Selling him was the right idea. We did him a disservice by sending him to QPR though.

Yeah if they don't finish Top 4 then all bets are off, he can have no complaints if he is sacked. It would surprise me though, I think behind the scenes United themselves know the squad is very much in need of surgery and thats why they appointed a long term solution in the first place.

It's gonna be a painful transition for fans that have been spoilt by success but it has been coming for a few years in my opinion. We will be back though, little doubt in my mind.

I don't get the "stick with Moyes after this season" camp. If you finish outside the top 4, he should fuck off back to his Misty Mountains.

Ranieri was average, Ferrara was meh, and Delneri was a carbon copy of Moyes. All were rightfully sacked. Cut your losses before he fucks up the whole club and you lose your allure.

Buy Vidal guys, it's ok.

Good. Looks handy.
But at 17 you'd expect that it'll be a few years before he's ready for first team football. Apparently we think he can be got for 300k rather than the €6m which Zagreb want.

However the only quasi reliable source is the Mail. Hardly sends confidence soaring.

Hold on.

Just did the obligatory YouTube scouting of Muric. He's a winger with a good cross. Buy him now and stick him straight into the first team. He'd be an improvement.

Very true. A lot has changed in the years since fergie joined.

Hull fans were singing negative stuff to Gerrard when warming up all game.

This is how he reacted when Suárez scored our second today.

The stray cat we took in a few years back went out last night and hasn't come back. Fearing taxis or stupid drunks may have harmed and killed the poor fella :(

He's just come back in, soaking wet, covered in mud, cuts and scratches. Must of taken a monster beating. got him half clean, fed and now he's conked out on the sofa.

Rooney is an excellent player who isn't being used to the best of his abilities because we're so threadbare on quality midfielders. He's being pushed back to play as a deep playmaker and at the same time having to push forward to be a central attacking threat. He's good, but that's asking a bit much even for him. All comes down to our lack of real talent in midfield.

There must be one MC in the U18s that can step up. Surely...?

There was Pogba, but we know what happened there. We had a decent midfield prospect in Daehli, but he left to play under Ole. He's still young too and may be PL bound in the summer.

There's Tunnicliffe but he's a bit crap. Kind of like Clev minus the odd incisive pass. He also fouls a lot more than any if our cm's. Then there's Powell who's doing quite well at Wigan and could probably play in the PL this season for a smaller club. But the point is that minus Pogba, none of those players would be ready to step up to the challenge of being a United regular.

Moyes has given his usual January transfer window spiel. "Will look... Can't promise... Won't mislead fans" etc etc.

So who are the most improved players in BPL for you guys?

My vote is for Welbeck (he ended last season as the worst striker in BPL) and of course, Ramsey.
Szczesny. During last season I honestly thought he was shit and certainly not good enough for us and I was really disappointed when we didn't replace him last summer.

I don't know what Wenger did to him but now he is one of the best goalkeepers in the league and I think he has improved even more than Ramsey.

Buy Vidal guys, it's ok.
