I remember thinking that the campaign was so fucking stupid. It only got worse in MW3. The story in COD 4 was actually pretty solid all things considered, but the next two games are some of the worst storytelling the medium has ever produced. More tunnel shooting gallery levels too.

CoD 4 was the best CoD out of them all.

The rest appeal to the same medium that only care about MP.

I really like playing Halo campaigns co-op. Never liked the multiplayer though. I've never been good at multiplayer FPS, I can never be bothered to learn the maps.

Also I don't know if it's relevant to Halo, but I am abhorred by the whole modern "levelling up" concept built into multiplayer FPS games. I don't have time for that shit.
