Joao Castelo-Branco: Willian leaves Chelsea feeling ‘’sad and even offended’’ with the Chelsea board. Marina Granovskaia offered him a 2 year deal ‘’take it or leave it’’ before the pandemic, after that there were no significant new negotiations.

Meanwhile in the League of Ireland, Bohemian FC have been a bit too honest in their press release, saying star player Danny Mandroiu is a doubt for today's game as he is "gargled" (hungover)

Last night PSG's Thomas Tuchel has suffered a sprained left ankle with a fracture of the 5th metatarsal during a sports session.

But he's the manager :pie_thinking:

The Premier League is set to stop making the "drawing of offside lines" available for broadcast to TV companies

This is a very bad move.

Commonsense and collectivity prevail. Premier League confirms clubs agree to revert to three subs. Also clubs “unanimously approved the implementation of VAR in line with the full FIFA VAR protocol” which means refs consulting pitchside monitors 🙌

At least they will get inline with everyone else on how VAR should be consulted.

Ah man. I honestly wish that offside would follow the same rule as goals or the ball going out of play. Meaning, let’s say that the attackers torso must be fully past the last line of defence to be ruled offside. Like a ball has to be all the way over the line for a goal or to be out of play. We have all seen decisions by this point thanks to var where goals can be ruled offside because the attackers toes, or head were in front of the line of defence.

I think that is ridiculous. Football would be much more exciting if they gave the onus to attackers, rather than all of the protection to the defence. Fans want to be entertained after all.

Tough one today man, I thought you guys did well to keep Man City from going supernova and even contained De Bruyne. Just really hard to stop that juggernaut. If they don't choke it, the only team that could do that was knocked out by Atletico :messenger_beaming:

I think he should have stayed too but at the same time his departure also mean that we start our rebuild and the sooner we did that the better. We are currently in a transition period and beside the first year crash we are doing decently at the moment.

Blame the fans complaining about human error and DEMANDING VAR to be implemented with few opposing it. The fans made their bed now they must rot in it. I do not think how the offside rule should be changed, any part of your body that you score with is ground for offside rule.

We needed to score goals, guess what aspect of our game we suffered the most this season? yes our attack, that's why I knew we were out since the first leg. Add to that our captain and leader Ramos not being there to lead the team and especially the defense and well you saw what happened.

I still don't think Manchester City are good enough to win it all and I think the only way they win it is if Bayern/Barcelona and Atlético choke and throw it away or Manchester City up their game like 5 more levels I think :pie_thinking:

Bayern are also really good, but Man City are clearly heads and shoulders above Barcelona and Atletico. It's a single elimination game so truly anything can happen.

Real will always be at the top. What I feel is that Cristiano put too much faith on Juventus to assemble him a team to aspire to the Champions League.

Also, Juve is about to enter a rebuild too.

Anyway, as Barcelona fan, this season has been traumatic for me. I have hopes for today, but getting knocked out in an embarrassing manner isn’t out of the question. Watching Barcelona is a thriller lately because you never know when a blooper on defense will crush all of the effort of Messi and his Atlas like efforts.

All of Barcelona, Atlético and Bayern are ate least 5 levels higher than current Manchester City, Luckily for Manchester City Bayern and Barcelona will face each other and thus one of them get knocked out. We will see how it goes though :messenger_beaming:

We had a tough crash last season though and being at the top is not enough if we don't win but thankfully things are getting better currently, I hope next season we do better :messenger_smiling:

Juventus look like they are rebuilding a new every season because of how self conscious they are about failing in the UCL. Juventus is a top team but yes Cristiano could achieve more if he stayed with us but he decided to leave so that's on him.

Barcelona will do fine don't worry, good luck today mate :messenger_beaming:

Zidane on Varane mistake - ¨We must be calm, heads up. As 95% of all the players have done, all season, have been spectacular. And I will stick to that.”

Varane comes out to face Spanish TV cameras - “I want to show my face as this defeat is mine. I take my responsibility. We had prepared well, but mistakes are paid for at this level, very dearly. I cannot explain the mistakes, it can happen in football, a difficult night for me”

I hope he learn from this, his mistakes were devastating and resulted in us getting knocked out.

Sarri to Sky Italia: "We played a great match (...) We gave it our all and tried everything. We believed it all the way to the end. We regret the first half in the first leg. We're disappointed, but there's nothing to say about tonight's performance."

Will Sarri be Juventus manager next season? :pie_thinking:

Pep:"Our history, our power in this competition is not good. The best success is one semi-final. Real Madrid has 13 CL wins and 3 in a row. They are the absolute kings" | Guardiola Post-Match Interview

Yes but we screwed in this tie and Manchester City took full advantage and thus deserved to go through

Rudi Garcia to Sky (on Lyon knocking out Juventus): “In the top 3 of the greatest achievements of my career? Yes, yes. It is an exploit. The outcome of the first leg is very important. Ronaldo put in a fantastic goal. But we stayed calm, we played as a team ”

Good for Lyon keeping it together.

They already sacked him and announced Pirlo is replacing him.

That was my point actually, he was saying this and I was wondering did he not know he was going to get sacked right away and if he did would he say the same thing :pie_thinking:

EDIT: I think it is way too early for Pirlo though

Juventus have scored 7 CL knockout goals in last 2 seasons, all of them scored by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Yes but he used to score way more in UCL with Real Madrid, he used to get the golden boot for the UCL every season until he moved to Juventus.

Ahh I misread. Yeh it's a strange one. They had just hired Pirlo as the Under 23s coach. You have to wonder how much this was planned and promised to him if Sarri slipped up.

Rio Ferdinand : I think Benzema is actually a really complete striker; can do a bit of everything in the game, I think he's a fantastic. He can put people in, set up CR7 more than any other player in the time at that club. He can be the provider but when the chances come his way, he finishes.

He is also a top striker himself and everyone can see that this season, we just need another top striker after Cristiano departure and Jovic completely flopped.

But surely Pirlo must know that running in too early will ruin his reputation if he does not deliver?
I think he is just there for now until they find a top manager.

Fabio Paratici confirms the decision to sack Sarri was made before the Champions League exit: Our evaluations were based on the whole season and not just a single match. We believe Pirlo is destined for greatness. He was as a player and we think with confidence he can do the same as a coach

Really 5 more levels you rate our attack that low sorry but that is laughable. While we aren't the favs to say we are 5 levels below others shows ignorance x

I rate teams as a full unit, in other words as a full team and yes in general I think 5 levels below is about right give or take. I think the most solid out of these three at the moment is Bayern personally. I specified which "others" by the way I did not say you are below everyone 5 levels. For example I think you are not below PSG but both of you are below the three I mentioned.

Ignorance? I'm sorry I just think if you play at the top of your game and these three play at the top of their game then Manchester City is about 5 levels below yes. No one play at the top of their game 100% of the time so we will see who will be closer to the top of their game when they are on the pitch facing each other. I'm not saying this out of ignorance, I follow football and see how each club plays and how much tactically sound they are on the pitch and how much disciplined they are and how consistent they are..etc
I think most people who follow these clubs and not trapped in one league bubble will agree with me but in the end of the day it is my personal opinion and of course you can freely disagree completely. It would be more fun discussing it though :messenger_beaming:

Messi's knock not serious and he will be fine for Bayern Munich. He took a blow to his left foot that is now inflamed, but there are no planned medical tests and it's thought that applying ice and basic care will be enough to reduce the swelling.

If Messi not 100% for the clash against Bayern then Barcelona basically out of the competition.

Why do people assume Pirlo will ask Cristiano to do things? what IF Pirlo asked Cristiano "hey what can we do to help you on the pitch?" instead?

Had Ronaldo stayed in Real they are probably gunning for the 5th straight CL now

No disrespect to Liverpool :messenger_grinning_squinting:

Also Cristiano would also have a good chance to win last year ballon d'or too instead of Messi, now Cristiano have one less ballon d'or than Messi.
He can blame himself for what he lost.
We could achieve more if he stayed but sooner or later we had to rebuild so the suffering just started earlier.

It seems fair to expect the manager to want to outline roles for his players to fit into a system that suits the overall team dynamic as well as individual talents. He could just build the whole team around whatever role Ronaldo wants to play but I don’t think many managers would be happy about being dictated to like that.
