For gaming is there any reason to not get the LG C3 and instead get the LG C2?

1st :)

I have a C2 42 love it.
Also have a 3D C6 65" which seems to have better quality than the 42 but prob my eyes or viewing distance.

Get the G3 if you can the brightness boost is substantial. Otherwise get the C2, the C3 is just a slightly updated version.

I'm actually waiting for G3 to drop in price. It's going to be my next tv.

I'm rocking with LG OLED B6 atm so it's time to upgrade.

I have c1 but I can answer a bit:
-c3 have more dynamic tone mapping zones or something, so DTM looks better supposedly.
-There is less blinking as the switching is now using vrr or something

it's the same as c2

I have the 77" c3 because the c2 was sold out. Performance wise nah, only good thing you get with the c3 is a cooler menu to show you fps, vrr etc

You want the brightness of the c3 over any other. Though if brightness isn't your thing the Sony's still have the best image processing. Which means best upscaler as well.

I got a Samsung S95C a couple of months ago. It's fucking beautiful for gaming and movies. I had over a girl the other day she wet her panties when we were watching Prometheus. The rest is history.

I get that it's expensive so I'm hesitant to really push this point too hard.. but I just got a G3 and it's significantly brighter than the C series. It's like LED brightness on an oled panel. Also with ALLM you can play games outside of game mode with low latency to get the real brightness benefits from the display. It's a looker.

Outside that (very niche) auto dimming issue thats fixed on C3, I've seen in person and from several sources that C3 has worse out of the box colour accuracy vs C2, to a point all the yellows are greeny.

Also the C3 speakers sound worse than the C2, somehow. Great sources are great, but I get people asking me if the speakers on the 55C3 are malfunctioning semi-often. Even the 77C3 sounds ass compared to how good the picture is, even worse than they situation usually is with modern TVs.

So if you aren't going to calibrate the set and are using the internal speakers then probably get the C2 imo.

I have the C9 and the C1. The C1 is using the new panel style and is significantly brighter than my C9. If the C3 is much brighter than that, then you will need to wear sunglasses.

If Ur spending this much on a TV I would highly recommend not to buy a Samsung , no Dolby vision is a no buy for me personally.
If money is not a problem a95l since it's Sony and Google TV all the TV os sucks in comparisons

Never understood why Samsung does that. It's dumb

I have a C2 and a B3. I honestly can't tell the difference between them picture wise. Maybe I'm just getting old.

The OS definitely chugs on the B3 though.

I've had the C3 for a while now, and the brightness is great, even in a sunlit room. Literally a non issue. I could see it being too bright for some and having to turn it down if it's actually a dark room.

If c3 is that bright why do we need MLA and more brightness in g3 tbh
What else does g3 has over c3 other than brightness

G3 this year but hopefully tge c4 gets tge better panel. I have 3 LG OLEDS now and once the brighter screen is included I'll upgrade my 65CX

Brightness and black levels were big issues for me, and this has been more than enough. I suppose if you are in a very sunny room it would make a difference, but if you are looking for picture quality to that degree, I don't know why you would have such a sunny room in the first place. This panel is bright as hell, and possibly too bright for some in a dark room.

You

You mean CS? CX is before the C1 and not available anymore.
You are right!

I came from a LG B7 oled, and while still going strong i wanted the VRR support and the OS was getting kinda slow. Sold my B7 for 300 euro and payed €900,- for the CS. great deal and man! do my games look great! i can fully use the "balanced" graphical mode in Hogward legacy for example. so good!

I just got the C3 but I don't think it's bright enough (for what I'd imagined HDR to be)
e.g. been watching Wheel of Time which is in Dolby Vision. Lots of outdoor scenes with the sun blaring down and yet it doesn't cause me to squint like I was expecting it to. Maybe I need to fiddle with the settings a bit more. Or my idea of what HDR is supposed to do is completely wrong. 😂

It isn't much brighter, there is barely any difference between C1, C2 and C3. Main ones are:

- C1 has the best 120hz black frame insertion (removed in newer models)
- C3 has some new refresh switching based on VRR (apple tv uses it)
- C3 has better auto dimming algorithms that are not as aggressive as in previous models
- C3 HAS BLOCKED service menu options to disable auto dimming completely (that can be done on C1 and C2)

Differences in brightness and IQ between C2 and C3 are minimal.

If there's not much difference in price, get the new one. Because the new features will make approximately zero difference to your experience when actually using the tv, if there's a significant difference in price, get the cheaper one.

I don't think the point of HDR is "create as much light as the sun so viewers are uncomfortable" BUT I might have that wrong.

C2 and C3 are pretty similar, if you have the money I'd go for something with an MLA OLED panel those make quite a difference.

LG only use the new MLA panel in the G3 which is meant to be wall mounted but can be used with stands, LG do sell the MLA panel to others who put it in regular TV's but they are costly flagship models.

Philips OLED908 has MLA.

Panasonic MZ2000 has MLA.

Those TV's are generally not available in USA.

If your on a budget and looking to save money the C2 is fine.

I've just grabbed the 48q900 for super cheap to use as a monitor and I'm gutted to see it doesn't let you tweak settings on hdr as its classed as a pc monitor. Sdr looks incredible but hdr is too cold and ypu can't change it to warm

Cant complain for 499 though...although I am..

I guess any is fine? Maybe Trumotion is better on the newer ones, or I don't know. It's anyway a great feature to be able to play Bloodborne and 30fps games in fake 60fps as long as it's not online FPS or Fighting games.

OLED weight a lot compared to LED so I can't imagine getting something bigger than 48". When I upgrade I will get a 42" probably since I like to be able to move it and get behind commecting cables and I have the PS5 vertically on the C1 stand behind the TV which works good since PS5 is ugly.

I wouldn't care about lower brightness on newer models. I play on C1 in a darker room on sometimes 30-50/100 pixel brightness and warm +50 (max) or Blue Light Control.
Max brightness is too bright for me when playing longer session, but I'm also very sensitive to strong light.

Also I want to avoid burn-in and having OLED TV's set on lower pixel brightness should help in the long run.

However, VRR makes it look more gray/less brightness and I rarely play games where it's necessary so I turned that off. If you use VRR it's probably necessary to set pixel brightness to 80-100/100.

Still a concern for overall TV longevity, but less of a concern now for "premature" burn-in within the first few years.
I guess it depends on how long you expect to have the tv for and how long you use it daily.

I was concerned about it before I bought one, but I saw some videos on YouTube that tested Oled TVs over years with far more hours use per day than a normal person would have.

I guess if you're measuring ownership in decades then it might be worth looking at something else though.

I have mine on about 15 hours - using it as a PC monitor when not gaming/watching.

Note that C3 brightness enhancement doesn't apply to 42" TV size. So if you want to use LG as a monitor, then there wont' be much change. Although I guess auto-dimness fix is nice, but its not a huge issue.
