For Those Who are interesetd, EB taking preorders on the PSP.

No thanks

Around here, it's $50 down and that's applied to the cost of the system. I called to check yesterday. I don't believe the hype about the defects, but I'm not sure either. So I'm on the fence right now about getting a launch system. If I wait first, it will probably be Summertime before they're easy to find around here. I hope I'm wrong. PEACE.

I only had to put $10 down. Preorder #2 woo!

I just wish I knew what games I should be looking forward to.

And on a side note... what the heck place doesn't apply the amount you put towards the preorder towards the final purchase price? I occasionally see comments like the "and that's applied to the cost of the system." and I'm thinking, "why is that even mentioned, I thought thats how it always worked"

Edit: Definitely getting the service plan with the PSP as well.

For the same reason coffee cups from McDonald's have "HOT!" printed in a point size big enough to be seen from a mile away.

Can you ask Mr. Friggen where he bought the PSP with the extra special 'white' shoulder buttons? I'm especially interested what the third 'white' button on the bottom right of the PSP in this shot is for.

Hrm...seems Sony is going with the ever growing 3 arm/handed market. Nintendo has been going after them for years, with the N64 controller, and now the DS, needing 2 hands to hold the system while the 3rd controls the stylus. Looks like no market is safe from Sony. Beware Nintendo.

Oh yeah...just realized.

EB's the only place that has all three:

1. Takes tradeins
2. Takes preorders
3. Serves service plans

...aren't they?

Dammit, my boycott is forefeit.

PSP PREORDER(S) GET

I hope I can get in before the bullshit bundles that they'll eventually have for launch

You're just jealous cause you don't have the extra flat, shiny cardboard edition PSP.

My boycott was only on the pretense of poor customer service and the GMR shitcanning.

But I can't let moral issues paint me into a corner if Sony's poor QC for first-shipment products fucks me over.

Actually, I'd rather have the "Value Pack" than the vanilla PSP, if they'd bring it over, then just toss a few saves and 25 mins worth of mp3's onto the ms.

Yes you're correct, I really have no interest in bulky, useless hardware that exists in the third dimension. 2D is where it's at for me! Man oh man, Sony's engineers really are a cut above :D .

Official bundles from Sony I don't mind, but I want to avoid the EB/Gamestop bundles that force you to buy 3 games + accessories + warranty, etc. for $600 :P

Well, yeah.

I know that my purchase will be--

PSP Value Pack (if available)
Ridge Racers (even though I still hurt from Ridge Racer Revolution's staleness--I mean, wtf, one track--it looks promising and a real attention-grabber. Besides, it's already confirmed that there's more than one track. ;))
SERVICE PLAN

I pre-order at eb for $20 myself. Gamestop wanted $50 dollars to pre-order and that was was just too much for me to pay for something that doesn't have a release date.

I preordered at Gamestop. I'm hoping that the $50 means that Sony and Gamestop will make extra sure that those orders get filled.

anyone have any idea how much the service plan for portables are at EB? is there a price difference for console and portables?

ya, hopefully by preordering, we can just buy the system and the games that WE want, not the ones they'll be 'forced' to bundle with the systems to move the games. though i wouldn't mind grabbing an extra battery as well.

I haven't owned a handheld since the GameGear. I drive for my commute, so I can't really play games on the go, but that's just while I'm in school, I'll probably be a metro commuter in the DC and surrounding area after graduation so the PSP might find a home. Dammit, why am I tempted to head to EB and put down $50??!!!!!!!!! Aaaarghhhh!!!!

I just picked up a DS at EBGames in orlando...21.99 For 2 years was what they told me. Also I know they do it on their website, but they didnt make me buy anything with my DS. The manager told me about the games, I said no thanks, he told me about the warranty I said no thanks and that was it. Sams Club and Costco actually make a package with Pac-manGBA and Mario DS in it so your forced to buy it.

i'm gonna wait till the official announcement and then preorder it. i'd like the value pack plz.

I talked to the guy at the EB when I preordered it and the $20 I put down is just towards the price of the system or whatever bundle is announced. It can be easily changed once we know exactly what Sony is planning to do. I have a feeling if you wait until the bundle is announced and pre order then, you'll still be able to get a PSP, but I'm paranoid and want to ensure I get one :)

Good to see your PSP inventory number is the same as mine. They had hard time finding it in the computer.

Quick question... I'm in NYC for the winter vacation which is 1 month long. I was wondering if I can preorder the system at an EB here and use that same preorder in the eb where my college is located. I don't want to have to wait a month to preorder it back at my college town since they only have one game store and judging from the launch of Halo2, alot of gamers.

As far as I know preorders are not transferable between stores.

SERVICE PLAN

never buy service plans.

It's Sony hardware. I'd never miss the opportunity to buy a service plan.

That said, I haven't had any Sony hardware fail on me (aside from a minidisc player, but I won't blame them - I think it got sand in it, if I remember right). However, I know plenty of people that have - right after the Sony warranty expires. I would rather pay the little extra for piece of mind than have to worry about whether or not it will randomly fail on me after it's 30 day warranty leaving me out a few hundred dollars.

Preorders are definitely not transferable among stores in either EB or GameStop.

EB and GameStop have been taking preorders for the PSP for a few weeks now.

I highly suggest you reserve the system before the end of January. While preorders right now are extremely low (so I've been told by a manager) I'd probably guess it will really pick up right after Christmas.

Are you on crack? I've learned my lesson on that one...

Never buy new gaming hardware without a warranty (though you should make certain that the service plan you are buying allows you to swap the unit in store).

Thumbs up. I've learned my lesson more than once. Any new Sony gaming hardware MUST have a service plan.

Play-Asia is sending me an e-mail when they get more in..................

When I get back in the states a Pre-order is in need.

Service is a key item with ANY Sony purchase... history has told me this.
