Does Cronos have jump scares? (I'm assuming Silent Hill has a ton). Y'all are convincing me to pick it up and I rarely play horror games!

But it is October…

Not really Dark, you can actually feel/see the incoming encounters.

It's no shitty "BOO ! got Yaa ! " game, it's more like Dead space x Resident evil.

Edit : The game is more atmospheric than actually scary, it's got this oppressive , melancholic 80s atmosphere that really fits its narrative, think Stranger things vs something more mobid or grimdark 😉
Again, it's more sci-fi than actually horror.

Sounds great!! Thanks, I think I'll pick it up!

Not really, but the atmosphere is up there with the best, I'd argue the atmosphere is better than jump scares and better than most games with jump scares. It's really good and the environment/map is very cool and interesting - This was the standout for me. The game is totally worth getting.

I absolutely love games with a stellar atmosphere, horror or not! That sounds perfect for this time of year.

This, plus, according to some Polish GAFers, apparently, they really recreated perfectly that 80s (communist) vibe.
I'm not Polish but G'damn if the atmosphere and environmental storytelling isn't great/brilliant - and we have to also thank the in-game auto translation where everything gets translated to English just by pointing your cursor to it (graffitis/posters/banners etc) - something which SH f is sorely lacking btw...

I finished SHf, but only got 1/2 through Cronos. It's not Dead Space and that's what I want. Each encounter is more like the same MacGyver episode playing over and over again. It's got an interesting world to explore. You do feel like you're managing an inventory from a survival horror game with so few resources. I felt like Hinako had a lot of potential to her character, being a simple Japanese girl and all. Both are good but I'd probably say I enjoyed my time with SHf more. I'll go back to Cronos someday. I'd say buy the Dead Space Remake and Silent Hill f and pick up Cronos on sale.

SHf has its issues. Encounters were basically the same 2-3 enemy types. I felt that way about Cronos for a while. I don't get why they can't have more enemy types in these games. Cronos made me want to play Returnal again.

What you think of Split Fiction, wife and I were a bit dissapointed after It Takes Two, which was more fun.
Have only played a few hours.

But doesn't seem as unique and well made as It Takes Two. Platforming feels more automated, combat also has auto lock etc.

Yeah, so far I feel ITT was better.

I finished Cronos and I'm 4h into Silent Hill F. I already know it's Cronos for me.

The combat in Silent Hill F annoys me already, since there just seems to be to much of it. And I also don't like the limited inventory, or more precisely, the way it's incorporated in the game. It didn't bother me in Cronos. And breakable weapons, I hate that too.
You probably should have played more than 4hrs before voting.

Silent Hill f develops a lot as it progresses. The mechanics around combat, inventory and even breakable weapons don't stay how they are in the first few hours. You get a lot more scope to play how you want as you go through (doubly so in subsequent runs).

The final few chapters of Split Fiction are better than anything in It Takes Two IMO.

Cronos, hands down. While there isn't such a huge gap between them, I think Cronos is a class above SH f.

Completed both his week so....I'd say both start off good and get week towards the end.
Silent Hill F is the bigger offender of this, Cronos is at least consistent.
But Silent Hill F (how do I say this without spoiling.....) when it does one thing which is the familiar Silent Hill stuff, it shines.
But the further it does the other stuff it goes down hill, luckily there's a back and forth but it spends too much time on the other to ignore it.
Na yes there is a connection, but the story isn't as deep as the older SH games.
To but it another way, if Silent Hill is the Conjuring, Silent Hill F is like one of the spin offs that has a reference to it.

What are you smoking. It Takes Two was way more fun and enagaging. The Sci-Fi levels specifically in Split Fiction are some of the most boring uninspired game design I've ever seen. The writing was terrible, the story was stupid. I'm not looking for any realism but It Takes Two with the exception of the graphics is better in every way. My wife and I completed It Takes Two twice, Split Fiction, we couldn't wait for it to end, it overstayed its welcome.

I'm playing both now but haven't finished them yet. So far they're pretty even. Silent Hill f feels a bit fresher but I don't know if I view it as a proper Silent Hill at all. Cronos is something we've seen before, but it's very well made. Solid is the word I'd use. Both are like 7/10 for me so far.

Am thinking they have traded mechanics for spectacle with Split Fiction.

It Takes Two had 4-5 different mechanics that were very well developed, all things considered.

In Split Fiction, you could be doing bike chase, then jumping across a lake over sticks, then running around as pigs ……

Am having fun with it, and am pretty early, maybe 4 hrs in. So reserving judgement for now. So far I prefer ITT.

Maybe later it becomes better, dunno.

I finally completed SHf yesterday... I fucking hated 2nd part of the game. Constantly walking in the same environments, nonsense story, shit ton of fighting the same enemies over and over (when combat system sucks) and this drags on... Game is short but it felt like a chore to finish it.

It starts like some good 8/10 game and then goes 6/10 (mid game) just to land around 4/10 in the end. Graphics and music are good but the rest is bad. Even if the story starts to make sense after 2 or 3 playthroughs - fuck that.

Cronos is in another dimension compared to this (SH2 Remake as well).

Bummer. I dropped SHf shortly after dropping caged what's-her-name into the molten steel or whatever with the intention of getting back to it someday. But the things you say about the back half are why I dropped it in the first place. Motivation gone.
