For whom would you buy a drink ?

The Lunch Legend

GAF's Nicest Lunch Thief and Nosiest Dildo Archeologist
If you could meet anyone from history, famous or otherwise, for whom would you buy a drink? Would you want to join them, or would you buy it across the room, and raise your mug (or glass) to them? You can also choose what they are served, whether it is what they are already drinking, whether it is alcohol or not, not limited to historical accuracy. Of course, they don't have to drink it. Assume of course, if you want to talk with them, there is no language difficulty.

i would like to have a cup of coffee with David Hume, the Scottish philosopher, who was too much of an atheist for Scotland, and too much of a theist for France. (Enlightenment). He was a great character who wrote his History of England (a best seller) "as a witch says her prayers, backwards" (the first volume was the latest historically). He subscribed to an Academic skepticism, in other words, that we could not be sure of anything, but should live our life based on convention.

Ulysses S. Grant seemed like a genuinely great dude. I would buy him a drink and have a long talk about the civil war and reconstruction and ice pick his brain. :)

Also Joseph Smith.

William Buckland was an eminent palaeontologist and wrote the first full account of a dinosaur (Megalosaurus). He was also a zoöphage, and was obsessed with eating his way through the entire animal kingdom like a bloodthirsty version of Noah. Over the years, Buckland consumed panthers, crocodiles, mice on toast, a jaguar, and even bluebottle flies, which he found "repulsive." No shit.

Abraham Lincoln. The man was a shrewd and cunning politician who knew how to navigate the proverbial swamp of American politics to get what he wanted. And his leadership was inspired and decisive (as demonstrated by the American Civil War). His charm was such that he could even get his bitterest rivals to work under him.

I'd love to spend and evening with him and pick his brain. And as shown in the 2012 movie, the guy loved telling stories.

and this guy

De_la_Poer_Beresford-Peirse-4.jpg

This laddish, bored Marquess once took loads of gin into central London and handed out huge mugs of it for free to "see what would happen." Everyone got pissed, rioted, and Beresford was arrested. He was also arrested for speeding when he galloped his horse down a crowded street. He brought his horse to court and demanded it be questioned, saying "only he knows how fast he was going”.

Kobe Bryant

I figured one day if I was lucky I’d run into him and be able to at least meet him and ask him a question maybe but obviously that’s is no longer possible in this life

But I knew if I had the chance to sit down with him and share a meal, a drink it would be the most incredible conversation of my life. He being the ultimate student of the game, literally the greatest basketball mind in my view, without question. He studied the game like no other. I would literally have 100s of possible questions, all about the game of basketball, not even the business aspect of the NBA, simply technique, skills, approach, all knowledge applied onto the hardwood when it comes time to play or perform

Wouldn’t tire of his teachings either. Make a 6-8 hrs dinner I’d be listening 100% all the way through. The way he explained and taught his ways on the court when he’d go to a bball camp or something to teach the kids or whatever, it was succinct and he performed with that signature grace he carried himself with when playing. Game so smooth and fluid under control, that it was simply unbelievable to see it in action, against the best in the world, no less

Would have to be Kobe man, because I know for a fact that once he saw I cared about the game he would be very generous with what he gives, I can almost say for fact that would be the case knowing how Kobe approached the game of basketball. He knew way too much man, can’t believe we lost him like that. Still feels surreal to me that such a champion and dedicated fighter in his arena, his sport, can die just like that. I never thought about it before, but the way Kobe always carried himself I figured he’d likely grow to be like Bill Russell. Another old, wise, legend sticking around the business and the game for ever due to his love for the game

If I can choose absolutely anyone, Jesus Christ would be my first pick over anyone else though

I would love to have a drink with some past engineers and see what they would think about today's technology and what they could think of using said technology for.

Leonardo DaVinci, Nikola Tesla, Isambard Kingdom Brunel (railway guy), and the wright brothers. and some German engineers from the early 40's too while i'm at it, those guys were thinking outside of the box to say the least.

Leo Tolstoy. I'm here today because of him.

He helped my great grand parents (and 2000 other doukobours) immigrate from Russia to Canada to get away from the persecution they faced from the Russian Orthodox Church and Tsar Nicolas.

Grants views on slavery evolved over time and he even freed his own slave before the war. He fought to end slavery through the civil war and did what he could to reconstruct the South.

I know my history but at one point he did at his “ White Haven” farm. Basically you said Grant was a “genuinely good dude” the hypocrisy is off the charts.

I mean i didnt say he was perfect and if we judged everybody back then with a modern lens then yeah prepare to be dissapointed. But i think he's done more good than harm for our country. Certainty one of our top presidents.

Albert Einstein.

Not that I could come up with any meaningful questions for him, but I'd certainly like to meet such a level of genius in person

Cleopatra. I couldn't give a fuck about the conversation I would just like to see how hot she actually was
Probably ugly and super short. She was the product of nearly 300 years of heavy inbreeding.

the whole thing about her seducing Caesar is made up

Being from 2020 I would hope that you'd immediately attack him from a platform of complete ignorance, call his flimsy credentials into question, get him banned from whatever his Twitter alternative is, and call him racist. And maybe transphobic.
