Found an old cd, popped it in. Completely forgot how many good songs he's done. Even rocket man, which has been destroyed thanks to the evil Shatner.

Yeah, he's done some incredible work over the years. Some of my faves:

"I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues"

"Sacrifice" (love the opening to this song)

"Rocket Man"

"Sad Songs"

"Candle in the Wind"

"The Last Song" (gets me choked up every time-- whatta song)

"The One"

"Your Song"

"Benny and the Jets"

"Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" (I know it's heresy, but I like the duet w/George Michael better than the original :D)

"I'm Still Standing"

"Something About The Way You Look Tonight"

"Tiny Dancer"

Ok, I guess those were all my favorites, not just some of them. :D

Old Elton was my first favorite "pop/rock" star. It is amazing he has held up all these years. Still a few stinkers over the years, but overall a pretty good catalouge.

I saw you dancing out the ocean
Running fast along the sand
A spirit born of earth and water
Fire flying from your hands

In the instant that you love someone
In the second that the hammer hits
Reality runs up your spine
And the pieces finally fit

And all I ever needed was the one
Like freedom fields where wild horses run
When stars collide like you and i
No shadows block the sun
You’re all I’ve ever needed
Baby you’re the one

There are caravans we follow
Drunken nights in dark hotels
When chances breathe between the silence
Where sex and love no longer gel

For each man in his time is cain
Until he walks along the beach
And sees his future in the water
A long lost heart within his reach

Awesome song ^_^

goddamit, Griese!
yep, he is awesome.

also, the tiny dancer scene in Almost Famous is probably my favorite movie scene of all time.

favorites: Tiny Dancer, Your Song, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Crocodile Rock, Sacrifice

This thread is disturbing. MAF, if you ever come to Capitol Hill to get a Stars CD or something, rest assured that I will be waiting in a bush with a telephone wire and a sock filled with pennies to be used in order to give you a decent re-education.

LORD I MISS DANIEL!

Yeah, he rocks. Most people laugh when I say he rocks, but that's because all they know is the remixed candle in the wind song. EJ rocks hardkore.

His love songs rule.

The only song I sincerely hate is Saturday, since it lacks like..a song.
Saturday! Saturday! Saturday! Saturday! Saturday! Saturday!.....

You don't think those are good lyrics? ;)

I like the duet better too, dont feel bad. Just has more feeling.

I've never heard the original, but the duet topped the charts in the middle of my teenage-angst years. I love the duet, dispite my genes telling me to hate it.

Elton John rocks.

Sorry to bump this thread, but Elton John DOES rock, thank you very much.

Rocket Man rocks so much that I bought three different remixes of it on iTunes (a live version, 2003 remix and original). There's something about Rocket Man that has me feeling great whenever I listen to it. Of all the remixes, I think the 2003 version is the best.

I even have the 'fantastic' William Hung edition in my iPod, so it proves how much I'm a fan of this song.

...so can anyone explain why Elton John's voice has changed over the years?

I'm pretty sure that a person's voice changes over the course of their lives, even if only slightly; I'd imagine that this shift has the potential to be more pronounced if you're a singer, seeing as how they're always using their voice and putting stress on it. IMO, Elton's voice (his singing voice, that is) has simply shifted down an octave or two, just like many other artists (Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, George Michael etc.). Seems like it's the natural course of events...
