An explosion in Athens has hit a car carrying former Greek Prime Minister Lucas Papademos, causing serious injuries, local media report. Only few details were immediately available.
The incident happened on late Thursday afternoon as Papademos was traveling in a car in central Athens. A blast hit the vehicle, though it was not immediately known what may have caused the explosion.
The Athens News Agency - Macedonian Press Agency (ANA - MPA) said Papademos had been injured, though there was no immediate word on his condition. One Greek news report said the former prime minister suffered serious injuries.
One other person who was also in the vehicle also suffered injuries, the reports said.
Lucas Papademos served as Prime Minister from November 2011 until May 2012, and prior to that served as the Vice President of the European Central Bank from 2002 until 2010. He also served as Governor of the Bank of Greece in the 1990s.
