Forza Horizon 2 |OT| Rock You Like a Huracan

Any reason to expect lower scores than Forza 5?
Only reasons I can think of people knocking the game for are:

- lack of variety in environments (not even sure this is true...)

- lack of different content

- people hating on the festival vibe.

So no, I don't think it will do.

I didn't play it, but based on people's overall impressions in hindsight, it seems like many outlets may have scored Forza 5 a bit too high. I'm honestly expecting FH2 to score around the same (80-ish to 85), I think it may be judged a bit more harshly since it's not a launch game, and it's also not exclusively a next-gen game (though I know the differences from the 360 version are large). I think the gameplay seems tight enough so the only real wildcard here is the amount of content in the full-game, we can't really gauge that from the demo.

Those of you popping up who have played the complete game - I get the impression there are no auto-switching replay cameras in the game, unlike FH1, so we have to manually change the cameras ourselves. Is that right?

The demo was this way. It seemed a really odd choice. I can understand not having static roadside replay cameras. But it was odd in the demo that there was no option for the game to direct the cameras itself as you'd expect from FH1.
Wondered this as well after playing the demo. My first thought, static replay cameras is real easy to do in a closed circuit track, probably really hard on an open world track.

What car is that .gif of? Richard Hammond? It looks like him, kind of (but older?).

Loved the demo. Need to decide if I can break away from Destiny for this.

I heard there's a discount on the VIP pass if you bought the one for Forza 5?

Forza 5 has a 79 on meta critic.

I'd say that's a bit low. The game had some minor (extremely overblown) issues with micro transactions at launch and the track list could have been a bit longer. I don't think they were big issues though. Especially considering both have been fixed for free.

I got $10 off the digital ultimate edition for owning F5 LCE. Dunno about just the VIP pack.

That's fair - as I said I didn't play the game so I can't really comment, I just remember seeing a lot of complaints from people at launch. Good on Turn 10 for addressing the problems.

Based on the current content (meaning the subsequent free add-ons), I'd say that's absurdly low. Honestly though, without Long Beach and Nurburgring at release, I can understand the lower reviews more. I think the game as it is now is fantastic.

The ring in particular is fantastic. Floating around in photo mode shows the insane amount of track detail (graffiti especially) and it's super fun to drive. All Forza 6 needs to add is weather, dynamic time, and some anti aliasing and I'm happy. They can keep everything else the same (even the cardboard crowd).

you're right on with everything you've said here. The same showcases are in FH2 as you listed from 1

and yes, they do give you that one Ferrari. But that's it, other showcases don't give anything sadly

I hated the showcase "races" from FH1. Basically just time trials with contrived finishes and no real sense of where you stood. As to the freebies, does the game make it tough to acquire cars like FH5 at the beginning? FH1 had a very fair system.

the key part of your post is the first one: you didnt play it, and you go based on what you read. ;)
here's my suggestion: go get forza 5
then you score it for me.

also, for metacritic and the importance some end consumers give to it, I have to say I find this ..wrong.
example in this exact space: nfs rivals metacritic 80 (ps4) - forza 5 metacritic 79(xbone)
http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/need-for-speed-rivals
http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-one/forza-motorsport-5

now, I wont say that day1 nextgen nfs rivals is not worth an 80.
but I will god damn say that day 1 forza motorsport 5 is surely worth of ten more quality points, not one less than nfs.

so, metacritic, yeah, sure, devs get or not get bonuses based on that, its a nice metric for them, a nice catalog of reviews for me to browse, but it has come to a point where them averaged scores really mean not much in conjunction to my enjoyment.

I will say though: the rivals rankings for those events were waay more fun for climbing the leaderboards because so many more people played them. It's totally superficial trimmings, but I liked it because it added flavor to something I already enjoyed doing.

Oh hell yes. I'd be more than satisfied to have both Motorsport and Horizon for my racing goodness. They're system sellers imho.

Its pretty insane to think there are so many other racers still to come this year as well. Its a great time to be into these kinds of games, no matter what platforms you race on.

That's true, but I mostly checked the rivals for the speed trap stuff. It was addicting, to say the least.

That might be true, but they were still a lot of fun, and I loved them. But what needs to be said is that the first game only had three unique showcase types - baloon, plane and helicopter races. The rest were normal races against other cars (including the dreaded Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 race which I loved and hated in equal amounts), I don't know why they ended up lumped with the more spectacular events.

Still, I did expect more of them in Horizon 2.

If you read my follow up post I admit I have no foundation for critique of the game I was just talking out of my ass haha. Don't really have any interest in mainline Forza as DC and GT fill that track racer need for me, I'm just super excited for FH2!

They also added 3 tracks for free and incorporated them into the campaign mode as if they were always there. FM5 feels much more complete now than it did at launch.

I hope it goes good. Need justification to buy a next Gen console. I haven't dropped the money yet because of me having to buy a new HDTV, but with all of these bundles man. Black Friday may be my day of reaping!!

I am waiting to pull the trigger on a digital purchase until reviews posted. 85 and above instant purchase...if below I will consider the criticism

Huh? What did I say? Did I screw up again? :(
Only reasons I can think of people knocking the game for are:

- lack of variety in environments (not even sure this is true...)

Beginning to hear rumblings on this one. I'm wondering if people were expecting an Ice level and a Lava level.

- lack of different content

What would be a reviewer's definition of what's missing I wonder: Needs more cars? More roads? race on the moon (see first point)?

- people hating on the festival vibe.

I'm hearing EU reviewers say that this game captured the festival vibe better than the first and it doesn't feel as corny. This might back-fire on the America markets? *shrug*

If you enjoy the game, why do you care what reviews say? There are plenty of games that didn't review well but once played, I thought it was really good.

I am buying the game regardless, just trying to decide on digital or physical. I tend to sell back games, but if reviews are good it will results in healthy online population and give the game some long term replay value. I know I will enjoy the game, just not sure for how long.

I'm kind of thinking about getting the 360 version as well, considering I won't have my Xbox One until four weeks after the release. Have there been any impressions or previews for the 360 version? I can't really find anything at all.

Have you played FH1? If not, maybe you should go with that one until you are ready for X1 version. Seems to me if you got the 360 version it may dilute your X1 experience with the game.

Anyone still playing the demo want to meet up and drive around for a bit while we wait for reviews to hit? You can invite friends to your session even in the demo, no?

Yep, absolutely loved the first one. I'm basically buying an X1 for FH2, but really wanted the white one. I just thought maybe the 360 version of FH2 would be different enough, but I definitely see your point.

MS Store inadvertently dropping bombs, or talking shit?

From the breezy back country to the frenzied mean streets, Forza Horizon 2 gets you behind the wheel for an open-world racing adventure like no other. Challenge your friends or go solo as you tear it up on the roads of southern Europe, plow through fields and forests in California, or smash down fences on the dirt trails in Australia. Your road, your rules.

A yet-to-be-revealed endgame, upcoming DLC, or a figment of someone's imagination-- what say you, GAF? Do we dare to dream?

Expecting deserts, I said.

I just assumed there would be a huge variety, but now you have me worried :(
Expecting mountains....maybe some desert....

It's set in southern France and Italy, they told me.

Deserts? In southern France and northern Italy? No geography taught in your school? :)

They MOCKED my desert wish! But behold, AUSTRALIA!

WHAT SAY YOU NOW, JACKAUBREY!?

PGG seems to have mostly improved on what folks liked about the first FH.

This game will easily score 85+ on metacritic. Possibly even in the 90s.

Huh, interesting.

From the Wikipedia page:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forza_Horizon_2

When choosing the locale for Forza Horizon 2, the developers investigated over 30 locations around the world, including California and Australia, ultimately choosing Southern Europe.[5] Creative director Ralph Fulton cited Europe's "fantastic driving roads, amazing environmental diversity, and just stunning vistas that you really want to explore" as some of the major points in selecting it for Horizon 2.[5] Fulton also noted that most of the recent open-world driving games were set in North America and that Southern Europe "just felt fresh, it felt different, it felt new, and it was a gimme for us".

America is not a racing game market, that would be Europe. Ubi sold TDU for half price in the US at launch for that very reason.
