Freak bball accident

This is sort of an amazing story...

An operation to simultaneously reattach an Australian boy's foot and both his hands after a freak basketball accident was a success with the boy's fingers and toes alive and pink, surgeons said on Monday.

Nothing freaky about it, the ring was attached to a gutter and not a supporting beam.

He was hanging on the ring, it fell and cut him.

Huh? A brick wall fell on him. That's pretty damn freaky, and not to be expected when playing basketball.

A 10-year-old Perth boy has undergone a second round of surgery after having both hands and a foot severed in a freak weekend accident.

Terry Vo had two hands and part of a leg severed after a basketball hoop and supporting wall fell on him at a birthday party on Saturday night.

He underwent eight hours of micro-surgery to have his limbs successfully re-attached.

Plastic surgeon Robert Love says Terry received skin grafts and is able to move his fingers.

"The feeling amongst everyone at the hospital has been very, very positive indeed," he said.

"The fact that he is moving his fingers. When he wakes up, I predict that he'll move both fingers and toes."

Mr Love says it is unclear how much sensory return and fine movements the boy's hands will have.

"That will come with time, hopefully," he said.

Terry is expected to regain consciousness overnight.

"He could have actually been woken up the next day," Dr Love said.

"[But] because we were intending to take him back to theatre for a second look, to look at the traumatised skin flaps, to close more of his wounds and to do split skin grafting, it was felt the best thing to do would be to keep him stable and to keep him anaesthetised.

"Now that he's had that surgery, we look forward to waking him up

I was just saying it was an accident waiting to happen with the ring being connected to the gutter and not a suitable support.

It wasn't attached to a gutter, unless I'm really reading this wrong. To me, it reads as though it was attached to the wall, which came down and brought the gutter with it. If it were attached to the gutter, that simply would have fallen itself and surely not broken the wall.

Not sure, I wasn’t paying much attention to the news tonight (happened in my home town so it’s fairly big news). I swore the news said that the ring was attached to the gutter but it was channel 7 (shit news).

That's the most fucked up accident ever. It's like it was meant to be or something! *slice* *slice* *slice*

A brick wall eh? Were the bricks made out of shards of glass? I thought Australians were made of tougher stuff than that. I'd imagine he'd bust through the rubble with the basketball in hand doing the cabbage patch because he made an awesome dunk.

Oh well. Good deal that they successfully put him back together.

The boy looks Asian; we are probably trying to find a way to deport him.

Also my mistake the ring was connected too the wall, there is a good diagram in the West Australian today that shows what operations he received, I will post it if I can find my scanner (I just moved hosue).
