Not to bring negativity in here but the two questions framed to people can ellicit different responses.

Most people will say equality under the law should trump religion, but specifically asking "Should Kim Davis have issued marriage licenses to same-sex couples?" The percentage drops by more than 10%. (Then again the respondents could interject with saying that if she objects she should have allowed her deputy clerks do it).

Also

33 percent oppose her having to issue the licenses in the first place.

Kentucky's governor says the altered marriage licenses issued in Rowan County from the office of an embattled clerk are considered valid.
Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear said Monday that the licenses issued "are going to be recognized as valid in the Commonwealth."
Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis, also a Democrat, has refused to authorize licenses for same-sex couples because of her religious beliefs. She spent five days in jail for refusing to follow a federal judge's ruling ordering her to issue the licenses.
On Monday, her office altered the marriage licenses to remove her name. The licenses also say they're "pursuant to a court order." Deputy clerks, not Davis, are granting them.
Kentucky state law requires that "every license blank shall contain the identical words and figures." But Beshear noted that the federal judge overseeing Davis' case has not raised any objections to the licenses.
The Republican president of Kentucky's state Senate again called for a special session of the state legislature to change state law to exempt Davis and others who share her beliefs from jabbing to issue licenses. But Beshear again rejected that on Monday.

A spokeswoman for Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway says he has reviewed marriage licenses issued in Rowan County and believes they're valid, despite arguments from the clerk who says they were granted without her authority.
Spokeswoman Allison Gardner Martin said Monday that Conway hasn't been asked to issue a formal opinion on the validity of the licenses, but he believes that those issued while clerk Kim Davis was in jail and the one issued so far since her return to work are valid.
Davis was jailed for five days after a judge found her in contempt for refusing his order to issue marriage licenses. Davis believes gay marriage is a sin. She stopped issuing licenses after the Supreme Court effectively legalized gay marriage nationwide.
She returned to work Monday. In her absence, deputy clerks granted licenses. On Monday morning, deputy clerk Brian Mason gave a license to a lesbian couple. It has the words "pursuant to federal court order" typed on it.
Davis says she's not interfering as deputies issue licenses but also says she isn't authorizing them and questions whether they're valid.

So what? There's nothing magical or necessary about how Kentucky currently handles marriage licenses. Her complaint is that her name appears on the licenses; the "accommodation" in this case would be repealing the requirement that clerk's names appear on the licenses. They could also expand the class of officers authorized to process marriage licenses. None of this will make any difference to the couples trying to obtain marriage licenses--they'll get them.

At first I missed the deputy part and thought Davis' shit head lawyers were admitting she was breaking the law.

At some point one has to wonder if your religion forbids you from following the law, then don't insist on working as a public official. There's a reason there's separation of church and state. In order for the law to protect people, it needs people to enforce it.

Church and state doesn't exist for people like her or Huckabee. In their minds, the USA is a Christian nation, founded on Christian beliefs and if you haven't accepted Jesus as your savior, you're going to hell.

There's no reasoning with people like them.

She's a hypocrite of epic proportions, but the biggest reason why she won't quit is that $80k pension she has. That's more important then her religious beliefs.

Deputy Clerk Brian Mason has been issuing marriage licenses in Rowan County over the objections of Davis, the elected county clerk who believes same-sex marriage is a sin. Davis spent five days in jail for refusing to obey a federal judge's order that she issue the licenses. The judge released Davis from jail but warned her not to interfere as her deputies issue licenses. Davis removed her name and the name of the county from the forms.

On Friday, Mason's attorney, Richard Hughes, said the altered forms would not be valid and thus constitute an attempt to violate the judge's order.

Last Monday, one of the Deputy Clerks gave a marriage license to a lesbian couple. Davis' name was removed from it, and it had the words "pursuant to federal court order" typed on it.

Davis' lawyer said "The license that went out today does not violate Kim Davis's conscience."

The Governor says that the vandalized license is valid. Those gay people are married.

It seems likely that the Deputy Clerk is now saying (through their lawyer) "BTW, just to be clear, it was that hateful bitch who typed unnecessary shit on the license, not me. Someone stick her ass back in jail already."

Maybe she'll spend spend 7 days in jail now... something needs to be done. She needs to be freakin' impeached right away then thrown in jail. This is fucking bullshit. Guess what, if she continues to get a slap on the wrist, other bigots will follow her lead. We can all see she's "empowering" other bigots left and right. The government needs to act tough.

It seems that is what she intended to do, but I don't think she succeeded. There's provision in Kentucky statute at 402.105 ...

A marriage license shall be valid for thirty (30) days, including the date it is issued, and after that time it shall be invalid.

"Shall be valid" is pretty specific and doesn't allow of exceptions. Once a license is issued it is valid. That remains so even if (for example) the officiating minister turns out not to be properly authorised (that's somewhere else in the statute).

Everything else is Davis trying to weasel out of things and the deputy making sure ass is covered.

As far as I know the governor saying he thinks vandalized licenses are valid isn't the same thing as them actually being valid, she could very easily end up in jail again for this
