Front Mission 4 VS Front Mission 3

Front Mission 4 VS Front Mission 3, which one is better? I've played a little bit of Front Mission 3, enjoyed, but Front Mission 4 LOOKS better, but I don't know if it is really better.

What do you guys think?

4 has much more strategy and challenge (of which 3 has virtually none) as well good characters and a decent, if simple story. The missions are much longer and more complex with up to 11 of your units in battle at times.

3 has many more missions and much more play time overall, but the missions are short. The story is probably better and it has a fascinating internet mode that fleshes out the world greatly. There are two versions of the storyline depending on an early choice. The story most people will play is good, but has mostly annoying characters. The other story has better missions and more interesting.

I prefer 4, but 3 is great.

We're talking about how many gameplay hours for both games?

I didn't want to start a new thread for this so I bumped this one since it's pretty small. :p

A couple of questions:

1) Is there ANYWYERE I can find Front Mission 3? I don't like Ebay. :(

2) The reviews aren't good at all for Front Mission 4 but many on this forum still like it -- should I just skip FM3?

Playing FM4 and I believe I'm near the end and I've put in about 70 hours, but that's with battling the simulator a lot. Great game, and the same could be said of FM3. You can't go wrong with either one.

I thought FM3 was way more interesting. I'd agree with reviewers for the most part about the sequel, but frankly it wasn't good enough to me to finish it.

That said, you can get it new for 15 dollars. Damn.

FM3's battles were less drawn-out; you fucked up, you died quick, (no "rezzing" of fallen mechs, tons more "destroy n mech part" skills). FM4's biggest problem imho was the INSANE time it took to knock off most battles. It's you, a finite amount of ammo, a fuckton of enemies who'll wait on you to aggro them, and a healer backpack to drag the battle out for up to 100 turns or 2 hours.

Also, FM3's stories and people were more detailed and interesting, and the fact that you could play thru it with either of two paths nearly doubled the play time, (although Alicia got on my nerves bad). FM4's antagonists were cardboard cutouts compared to
the Imaginary Numbers,
and the lack of real bonus or secrets had me trading it in towards Paper Mario 2 last month. I don't regret the time spent with it, but it wasn't FM3 by a long shot.
