That’s a ballsy move.
A Lufthansa pilot allegedly upset over being forced to divert his flight from Catania flew the commercial plane in a penis-shaped pattern before landing in Malta.
Flight 306 took off from Frankfurt, Germany, on Friday and was bound for the Sicilian city until the plane was warned mid-flight that it could not land at the Fontanarossa airport, which was seeing reduced operations following a terminal fire in July, La Repubblica reported.
The Lufthansa pilot, who has not been identified, allegedly grew irritated about having to stall the plane before being told the flight would need to fly south and land on the island of Malta.
Before leaving Catania’s airspace, the plane was spotted heading eastward toward the Sicilian coast and flying in such a way that the flight path created the shape of male genitalia, according to images recorded by air traffic website Flight Radar. The pattern took about 16 minutes to complete.
The plane then headed back to Sicily and traveled south to its new destination.

Lufthansa officials told La Repubblica that the phallic pattern was created by coincidence when the pilot had to circle over Catania before being instructed to divert the flight.
SAC, which operates the Fontanarossa airport in Catania, blamed a sudden change in wind patterns for the diversion.
The Lufthansa flight is not the only flight where officials claimed a “penis pattern” was accidentally created.

Last year, a US Air Force pilot drew a similar pattern while flying near a Russian base in Syria.
The aircraft looped tightly in the waters between Cyprus and Lebanon, creating an oval shape before making two smaller circles at the base and looking back at the top of the oval a second time, according to FlightRadar24.
“While these adjustments and movements appear to create a vulgar outline, there was no intent by the pilots or the unit to do so,” Capt. Ryan Goss said in a statement. “As we continue to look into this, USAFE-AFAFRICA, AMC [Air Mobility Command] and the USAF will continue to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and airmanship.”
Other incidents were not so easy to brush aside, as was the case in 2017 when two Navy airmen decided to use the jet’s contrails to draw a giant “sky penis” over Central Washington because it “would be awesome.”
