Full House Or Family Matters?

They are both part of the Urkelverse, so there's no point debating. It's both!

Full House if you want to stay grounded, Family Matters if you want magic robots and time travel.

Family Matters, just for the sheer absurdity. Carl and Steve have time traveled, there are multiple clones of Urkel running around, he was able to make a DNA serum that allowed you take on the characteristics of anyone, the list just goes on. And then they'd bounce back and forth between that and regular family drama. This week Carl and Steve go back in time and fight pirates, next week the family has to prepare dinner for Carl's boss to make sure he gets the big promotion. It's insane.

Family Matters had some low lows, tho. Those CBS seasons were rough!

Family Matters was also a very different show before Urkel took over the show.

Family Matters was funnier and was way more entertaining.

What does Full House have? Dave Coulier? LOL

it's amazing the kind of shit I happily went along with as a kid. (the last couple of seasons didn't get much play though)

Family Matters. Full House has a bunch of stiff characters that had no charisma, frankly. Family Matters always felt more organic.

To be honest, I always fictionized Family Matters as existing in the same World as Back to the Future. Would explain some of the science fiction stuff.

Dinosaurs was way better than both:

The show holds up really well as a sharp satire of the family TV shows of the time.

In Season 2 there is an episode called "A New Leaf" in which the Sinclair family discovers prehistoric weed and goes on a bender. It's hilarious and brilliantly tounge-in-cheek, digging at the "very special episodes" that plauged TV at the time. It's also pretty clear by the dialogue that the writers smoked pot, at least some time in their lives.

I wanted to link it but all the uploads of the episode on youtube are mangled... the whole series is on Netflix, last I checked.

Watch it, you will be amazed. Truly a show that could never make it today.

In other news, Fuller House Season 2 comes to Netflix in December...

Early Family Matters was a great show.

Before Urkel grew up, Eddie got old, Stefan became a thing, and time travel happened Family Matters was a great show.

Maybe I'm biased cause I sorta personally aged out of the back half of the TGIF years, but Family Matters jumped the shark with two sides of Urkel and shit.

That being said Full House was always a snooze too.

Real talk went over my head as a kid, but as another poster said Rosanne was a legit great show tackling real issues. So did the Fresh Prince. Both of these shows were light years beyond the TGIF shows.

Early Family Matters was pretty great. I would have to go Full House though if between only these 2. I loved them all though, Roseanne, Home Improvement, Fresh Prince, etc.

Roseanne is on another level from these shows. It's actually a good show that mattered.

Hmm, tough call as I liked both. Family Matters gets points for Carl Winslow and Urkel, but loses some for making the other kid just disappear (the youngest daughter... whatever her name was).

I thought Family Matters also had the more extreme (higher highs, but lower lows).
