What is the consensus on the maps?

I feel like they suck.

They look good to me, honestly. Midship is stretched out, of course, but it seems to play well. Empire is drab, but looks well designed nevertheless, and Crossfire looks like a blast (though that might just be because we've only seen Breakout played on it).

-Double kill with one grenade medal
-Melee medal
-Sniper head shot medal
-Sniper head shot with no scope medal
-Killing somebody after they shot you first medal
-First to 10 kills medal
-Having your opponent be killed by somebody else while they chase after you medal

Those on top of the sprees, multiple kill medals, and other ones already made. It gets pretty ridiculous.
 
I am not criticizing you over your opinion, I actually agree with you. It does sound and look out of place. Sorry if it came across that I was throwing criticism at you.

I actually hope they give players personality options. Making things more varied and personal too.

I feel like they suck.

I think a lot of the gameplay concerns here actually come from the map design more than the player themselves. I think the Midship remake works fine, I like that it's bigger with more cover. It's a good map. Obviously watching pros play on it made it look super fast, but watching regular people play it makes it look good.

But the other two seem designed to amplify everything that Halo isn't. Wide spaces are less common, a million boxes and pillars and ledges, tiny corridors, overcomplicated paths, etc. It forces more of the COD style gameplay that people are criticizing.

There was one outdoor map shown briefly in the viddoc that looked like it had potential but I didn't get a good look at it.
343/CA need to look to their H2A maps for design inspiration. I think the remakes were great, if only they would apply similar design principles to their H5 maps.

From what I've seen, everyone agrees with you. Way too many. Medals should be awarded for cool stuff, not for every damn thing you do. Back when they meant something, I would actually be excited to see how many I got. Now there are so many, why would I care?
 
There really are an abundant amount of unnecessary medals. Should cut it back down to Halo 3's standards in that respect.
 
games just not doing it for me. loved 1 2 3. hated 4. i hated reach at first but somewhat enjoyed it now in retrospect considering it felt like halo with other shitty elements tacked on. this looks like shit with some core halo tacked on.

Mantle ruins the jumping game and streamlines map design. Cant make a jump? press this button and dont have limited mobility from your lack of movement skills.

Sprint should stop shields recharging all together. i saw in one of the greenskull videos earlier that after he waited 4 seconds he started sprinting as his shields were recharging and they kept going. sprinting negatively effects base movement speed and map design.

ADS/Smart scope is pretty stupid on the BR and DMR. i enjoy the use it has on the AR but i think it should remain a standard zoom in feature. the graphic elements of using a scope, even if you are all insisting its still the same old scope just redesigned visually, take away from the haloness. i dont want half of my screen being covered up by the gun, why was having plain zoom a problem in earlier halos? and if it really isnt a big deal why did the cop out the cod controls and make the zoom feature the L button. L was the dedicated grenade button in every halo prior. If anything this signifies a move away from the importance of hip fire.

Ground pound and charge seemed stupid to me at first but after watching the vid i think they are absolutely terrible. You gain too much momentum using ground pound as the vid above showed he simply hit the ground 20 yards away at such a high velocity its kind of stupid and in the hands of a good player can be abused too easily. Also it could make vertical control extremely op. Charge in the video seemed like it was way to easy to hit, almost sword lunge esque. that combined with infinite sprint will make the game sprint shoot sprint shoot sprint charge shoot sprint. doesnt feel like halo.

weapon annoouncements take away from the game for me. not a complete negative gamechanger but just a small detail which makes the game feel worse and less of the original halo feel. minor issue with players lining up to the weapon spawns in search of power weapon.

The announcer is edging on self parody and should be toned down a bit. Having all those medals is bearable but not every one needs the announcer to announce.

the hit markers are ok but i dislike them, again take away the halo feel. i do however enjoy the high pitched Killzone chirp. i think this should replace the hit markers and be toned down just a slight bit. i feel the sound can become an integral and useful part of halo.

i havent seen enough of the thrust to judge it. it could be useful and integral or just as easily useless and gimmicky.

automatics seem to kill too fast, at least the smg. although im a fan of the new AR damage and range wise, coupled with sprint it becomes far too easy to use. also having both the BR and DMR seem redundant. remove one and let the other fill its role in the sandbox. Also as someone posted earlier the lack of covenant weapons seems startling. Not gamebreaking by any means but just a small detail.

Finally dude bro spartain IV shit seems unnecessary. im not gonna hate the game for but i dislike it as it takes away from 'the halo feel'


Overall im not seeming to like the game. Ill play the beta a bit at my friends house but im not expecting much. The one positive i can give to 343 so far is the map selection. Midship is a classic and even tho its been distorted to adjust for sprint its still a good map. The complex map seems ok. small symmetrical arenas are my favorite halo maps and i enjoy the focus they seem to be getting. However knowing 343 and halo 4 at the time of release halo 5 will most likely primarily have large vehicle based maps, which are fine for btb, but considering the series mainstay team slayer playlist is 4v4 more maps should be designed small and arena like.

Yeah, I don't mind some new ones, but they are just adding them just to give things to people who don't do anything. Perfect BR/DMR medal, killing somebody after they shot you first and such are pretty good ideas. Melee and grenade medals? Come on now. They need to tone it down so I don't get 4 medals on my screen when I do something.

Like SillyNonsense said, I used to like checking my medals and the medals of the other players to see what cool things people did. Now there is so much random stuff in there that I don't care to check any more.

I actually like a lot of the new medals, but I could get behind this. Having medals as an ersatz stat tracking system would be cool, but ATM there's a lot of clutter, especially with the ding.

there's nothing worse than people posting vids that only use AR. dude walks by all the DMRs and Brs holy crap.

Anyways, AR seems a bit too powerful for my liking.
 
I'm obviously nitpicking here, but the dudebro poses at the end of matches and the lame Spartan voices used for callouts and random chatter like "sweet headshot bud!! ^___^" are grating. Way to lower the tone and destroy what little sense of immersion Halo retains in its multiplayer modes.

Yes. I hate this shit. A change that doesn't affect gameplay that I'm 100% against. This stuff bothers me more than any of the mobility or aiming.... even more than the silly looking ground pound.

Well a "moment" here is 4 seconds. That's going to be a lifetime in the middle of a battle. Especially considering how much faster everyone is in this one right now.

Interested in that auto-stabilize option. I think stabilizers probably won't work as intended, what if I want to jump and zoom in with my BR or sniper.. it will immediately put me on stabilizers and I will be hanging in the air while I might prefer a simple jump.

Did they just put jump on the left-trigger for bumper jumper.. bumper jumper is ideal for me besides that, but I must be imagining things.

For what purpose? Please switch those two, 343. Everything else is perfect.

Just a bug, I think. Looks like the labels on LB/LT are swapped for a lot of the legacy schemes. Recon lists LT as thruster and LB as grenade, but he confirms that they're the right way around in-game.

Well they ARE tripling down on gunning for the modern AAA shooter fan, so they need as many "+5 You're Awesome!" markers as possible. Hope there's an option to disable displaying them, but I won't hold my breath on that.

Now you can get satisfaction from jumps that require air dash and clamber.
 
I'm not sure if they're final or not but I like some of those medal designs. I like the color/character of them better than the washed out bland H4 medals. Still need a bit more variety but the Hat Trick medal is pretty slick.
 
I love the pistol model. I love the BR model. Pistol is closer to the halo CE pistol than any of the other games I think. The sounds are amazing. The grenades flying at you are very cool sounding. Please make the warthog sound like older halos please. The polish is very impressive for it being so early. I'm very impressed. Looks like I will use recon control scheme.

I've pretty much done a 180 on the game and think it looks like a hell of a lot of fun. My biggest complaint right now boils down to this...

Superfluous Bullshit

This comes in many forms, such as:
-Too many medals
-Spartan chatter
-Steitzer's terrible announcing
-Pre-game/post-game Spartan bro-facular montages
-Headshot "kerplunk" noise sounds like it's straight out of Plants vs. Zombies
-Beeps and boops, hit marker sounds, grenade hit marker sounds, etc etc.
-Shield beep is different again, too many beeps, not enough Halo


Other thoughts -- BR spread is way to low/tight. Essentially just looks like a DMR, no punishment for not nailing 100% of your shots on the body like there was in Halo 2 and Halo 3. They need to loosen that up to differentiate it from the DMR a bit more. Maybe it'll make more sense when playing.

Probably the best vid so far.

Top-notch sound effects.
ADS on precision weapons needs to go, but I'm starting to like the idea of automatics having a tighter spread when zooming.

Thruster packs seems to create some kind of skill gap, makes you think different and raise your awareness. I like it.

Spartan chatter is distracting and pretty stupid imo, that bleeping sound is annoying as hell too... it was driving me crazy.

The BR seems to be a beast, silly scope tho.

I'm liking what I'm seeing, plus dat diagonal ground pounding... wonder if I can eject my ass from across the map if I'm on a high position.

Also, are the aerial vehicles a the begining hornets or pelicans?
