Metal Gear, the password to get to the final battle with nothing except cigs was:

fuckm e1111 11111 11111 11111

Close second goes to PGA '99 and the Spirit of Christmas, of course.

I loved the easter egg in Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow when Sam says that his goal is to, one day, become as good as Garrett

Keep clicking on the bloodmage hero in warcraft 3.

Make a rude gesture at a ghostly spirit in WoW, and it'll knock you down and flick you off.

Rise of the Triad. This happened so fast you'd likely never notice it, but the Apogee guys squeezed in a little 'thank you' from the enemy you just gibbed.

I liked the smiley faces on the flak cannon rounds in Unreal Tournament. I hadn't read anything about it and thought I saw something strange as I caught a flak grenade in the face.

I believe that was SimCopter.

Metal Gear Solid 3?

The funny thing is, the random number generator was broken, so while it was supposed to have a 1 in 10,000 chance of happening it ended up being more like 1 in 3, and SimCopter was a very gay place indeed.

Truly it was the birthplace of the Gayming Age.

In the old children's game Putt Putt goes to the Zoo, there is an easter egg wherein Putt will eat too much cotton candy and vomit all over the place. His pet puppy will then jump out and eat it up.

Seriously.

In MGS 1 if you finish the game one of the rewards you can start a new game with is a bandanna that gives you infinite ammo.

In MGS 2, Raiden asks Snake if he wants some ammo and Snake says " Don't need it......unlimited ammo" and taps his bandanna.... :D

Does that even count as an easter egg? Aren't they supposed to be...hidden?

Insomniac Museum in R & C: GC. Basically lets you run around and see pictures of the devs and lets you explore the test areas that were created when they were first determining the jumping distance and running speed for Ratchet. To unlock it, you either need to beat the game 100% or get a case of insomnia and stay up until 3:00 AM, or you could set your sytem clock, but that is cheating. ;)

Chrono Trigger, after fighting Lavos with only 2 characters (Crono and Marle) and making your way to the Developer Room, the guy who says he wants to reset your game, and the screen goes blank for a few seconds... Freaked me out first time I saw it!

MGS2: Somewhere in the tanker you can go in the lockerroom. There is a poster of a hot asian girl. and if you look at it in first-person and then call Otacon, you can see that Snake too has his needs :lol

There was actually another way to access it, but it involved jumping off the rails to a random building and falling through a floor. Not really the intended way of getting there, I presume.

I'm sure someone will mock me for this, but are there pics of this anywhere? I'm curious.

And no, it's not because of the "hotness" of 20-polygon models making out.

Jacques Servin, now better known as a member of the Yes Men and ®™ark, was responsible for the easter egg. It was mentioned briefly in last year's Yes Men documentary (he's the one on the left).

There's more info on the prank at:

http://www.wired.com/news/culture/0,1284,775,00.html
http://www.wired.com/news/culture/0,1284,2997,00.html
http://rtmark.com/simcopter.html

and more pics at http://rtmark.com/images/copter/

"My job was to make the little people with a body and animation editor," says Servin. "The artist who used my editor to make the bodies ... was aggressively heterosexual, and made several 'bimbos,' which was my boss's term," recalls Servin, who is gay. "At a certain point I wondered, 'Bimbos - why not studs?'"

Servin stripped one of the male Sims, producing, in his words, "a muscleboy in swim trunks." He then altered the game code so that "should you encounter one of these youths, you must kiss him. He will kiss you back." The act of kissing a male Sim - as when kissing a female character - triggers loud smooching noises on the digital soundtrack.

edit: There's also a quickie decent interview at http://www.rtmark.com/more/articles/simedensimcopterinterview.html which mentions, as I would imagine, that Wright himself probably dug the prank, and was not the one that had him fired.

Hey, what about in Simcity 2000, when you could shoot down the helicopter using the centering tool? I always loved that.

Especially when it would start fires if you had disasters off.

I still remember playing Mario RPG, and one day finding Samus sitting at a bar, then to only turn around and find Link in a hotel bed later on.

for "unintentional" easter eggs, i'd say world -1 in Super Mario Bros.

Yeah, that one got me too, but you can just go in with Crono by himself and try, too. I think that's how I got to the developer's room the first time.

when you could see teh b00bies in doav when you looked through the visor (in rotating camera view)

Weren't the models still actually textured to cover the nipples?
