Cool!

Did you build it yourself? Must have been pretty pricey if not 'cause it looks high quality.

Thanks for the compliment :D And yeah, I did, that's the second one I've made. The first is a travesty and will not ever be shown ever.

How much did they cost to put together?

It's not too pricey if you build it yourself, something like $20 for a balaclava (for a base for the foam), another $20 for foam, another $30 for stuff like hot glue and mesh and paint and a glue gun from goodwill. The most expensive part is the fur, something like $25-$35 a yard for decent stuff and for a partial I'd use something like... 3-4 yards total just to be safe? You could probably build a whole body suit from that though. The more colors you want the more awkward it gets because the fur grain only runs one way and it's not the convenient way.

Anyway to actually answer the question, about $160-170 total materials cost for that one, and 40-odd hours of work.

Working on this one at the moment too, started it for school but it still needs a body suit (and some shaving work on the head obviously).

Interesting. How'd you go about making it? Do you know anyone whose done it before? From what you were saying your test run gave you experience, did you use a guide online or anything?

I worked with a friend for the first one, who showed me how to rig up elastic in the balaclava for a better fit, but besides that I went into it pretty much blind. The second time around I looked up some tutorials, but I find it much more fun to just try and figure things out myself. That said, resin casting I never would have figured out myself and I'm glad there's tutorials.

I case you were curious, here's a wip of the foam for my suit:

Huh... That's awesome.
Would you mind posting any tutorials that you found useful?

has anyone made one with real animal fur?
i would imagine they would get assassinated by PETA agents

I imagine someone has, though that's not necessarily awful if you're reusing old fur coats or something. It'd be godawful warm and wouldn't breathe though. The antlers on the vulture are real but they were sheds that a friend found.

And I can post some tuts I've used, though the Fursuit livejournal has good resources too. I'm on my phone though so I'll do it when I get back. Also I'm always happy to chat on pm if I'm clogging the thread haha.

Still without luck
Haha well I do, that's why I was curious. Here's some pictures from a recentish outing around Portland with some friends. The last one is from RF.
I really like your suit! Colors look nice and you made it yourself! Wow. Pretty impressive.

Have you commissioned any art of your fersona?

Haha I've done a few dollar commissions for goofy icons and such, but I'm too poor/cheap to commission people. Everything of Gavin is either random things from friends or stuff I drew.

Ok finally, pulled them up:

https://d.facdn.net/art/isqueakypinky/1326254024.isqueakypinky_handpaw.jpg - Not a bad handpaw tutorial, though personally I make mine more human shaped so it's easier to manipulate things with them. Best advice I can give is pin the hell out of the fingers and the angles between to make sure they don't move while you're sewing.

http://fursuit.livejournal.com/5037690.html - Neck flap tutorial, I notice a lot of people don't put much thought into this when making their own, but it looks... awful if you don't. Simply awful. Important for comfort and look.

http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7006079/ - Tutorial for resin cast base heads, from sculpt to cast (links to other parts in the description). I looked at this a lot when doing my own, though I didn't really follow it to the letter.

http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7953508/ - Another (video) tutorial on resin casting with a latex/silicone mold. It's helpful to see someone actually doing it to get an idea before you do it yourself.

http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8855655/ - Tutorial for shaping "hair" for fursuit heads, though there are A LOT of methods for this. I bought some wig hair that I haven't had the drive to mess about with yet...

http://fursuit.livejournal.com/3115572.html - Great trashbag pattern tutorial for making a bodysuit, though you'll need a duct tape dummy first. (make sure your friends read the dtd tutorial too if you get help making one or they'll screw it up)

http://www.komickrazi.com/costumes/tut2.html - Great way to make follow-me "realistic" resin eyes, I did this and I like the result. I like toony eyes though too, I could make a tut on how I did Gavin's eyes but it's pretty simple.

A lot of other helpful stuff can be found at http://fursuit.livejournal.com/.

Everything else I've figured out on my own pretty much, but I'm always happy to share what I know. I can also point out places to get fur and I have a picture collection of what a couple brick and mortar stores carry that they don't display online (note, not guaranteed that they carry it anymore because my pictures are about 4 months old).

And also here's a little gallery of that wip foam head that shows the structure better: http://imgur.com/a/EKvtv
