Dear God, if there's one thing you can do for me it's this. Please don't disappoint me again.

Love, temp.

That would be the best news ever! They ought to pull a dual-financing deal with the Cartoon Network, like they did with Family Guy. The new stuff is DVD-exclusive for 6 months, then gets special airings on Adult Swim.

First tragedy, then farce.

I agree completely.

Futurama still definitely has legs, I just hope the quality wouldn't suffer if it went direct-to-DVD (and that they could get back all the voice acting talent).

Pretty much everyone on the cast is primarily a voice actor(except Katey Segal) and they seem to be used to doing a whole bunch of jobs at the same time, going by their IMDB listings

Look at Frank Welker with 441 credits

My penis is still intact.
As long as we can pretend The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings is still the last episode, it's too perfect a way to end the series for anything else to take that place.

ABC just diteched 8 Simple Rules, so Katie Segal's schedule should be free anyway. Why they kept that show running after Ritter died is beyond me...

Smells faintly of rancid stilton.

There is more news on GotFuturama.com

including this from Billywest.com

"Well, I spoke to David X.Cohen because we did promos for a new Futurama compilation and he said that they did have talks with the top guys at FOX and they were extremely impressed with the sales of the Futurama DVDs. The idea was to make a Futurama movie right to DVD and then a 2nd and a 3rd. That's what's being discussed. Fox is trying to figure out a budget for the whole project, and it sounded like David X. was very jazzed!

I would love more than anything to do that show again. I thought it was best experience on every level... creatively, voice-wise, writing, animation and the laughs. The laughs. Writers and performers that respected each other."

HOLY SHIT! PLEASE HAPPEN!

I hear the president of Fox (not Murdoch) isn't a douchebag and really wants Arrested Development to do well.

This is great news. I really hope this happens.

I can't imagine a Futurama movie, just like I can't imagine a Simpsons movie. However, the thought of new Futurama is so enticing...

Just bring the series back, damn it. I always preferred it to Family Guy.

That's fine.

It's David X. Cohen and company's job to imagine a Futurama movie.

Your job is easy. Just watch it.

Haha.....I'm pretty sure that there isn't an entire season that Fox never aired. The show reportedly cost 1-2 million per episode, and I doubt that the network would leave 20 of them sitting around at that price.

The frustrating thing about this is that the production cycles are long, and even if it got resurrected it would take 12-18 months for any new material to appear (like with Family Guy).

When Futurama was cancelled the producers said they had one season and then another one already done. After they said that, Fox only aired the remainder of the current season and the show went off the air.

I always wonder what kind of deal Matt Groening signed/has with Fox on the Simpsons. Maybe it's how it was even born in the first place, but I imagine he would have done well to use his Simpsons leverage to push for better Futurama slotting/advertising/support.

Some of his reported comments about Fox's treatment of Futurama suggest he was pretty stung by what happened to it. But it's quite possible Fox has his nuts in some sort of vice grip with their Simpsons contract.

You're sorta right.

Futurama was about a half season ahead after being eternally pre-empted. The show was then canceled. They sent the crew home and aired the episodes -- essentially airing a year worth of missed episodes.

So you're saying there are only a few unseen ones?

If I get to hear David X. Cohen geek up another Futurama commentary then I can die a happy man. I really miss this show.

Futurama rocks. This is awesome news if true. I'd definitely buy it, but I hate giving Fox my money for shows they've cancelled. >:|

I would prefer new episodes to a movie, but either would make me extremely happy.

A movie is like three episodes with more time for nuanced set pieces. I'm so in.
