Future X360 owners, watch this FFXI video

Probably the best video i've seen about FFXI's world and awesomeness, shows off all jobs too. There's simply no better looking MMORPG out there, wether your argument is about art or even technically, the first time i saw the Chains of Promethia cutscene when entering Delfkut's tower i was blown away, a real-time cutscene so beautiful that for a moment i forgot i was playing an MMORPG. Having played EQ for nearly over 3 years, FFXI brings a touch to the mmorpg genre thats i welcome, gameplay depth up the wazoo, a good story and an artistic touch only SE could put.

Lvl 34/17 RDM/BLM on fairy server, enjoying the hell out of it :D

I'd rather and I believe most others would rather see World of Warcraft on the Xbox 360. It's hard to get excited about FFXI having played WoW.

Sorry, WoW looks much better than FFXI. We'll see if this video changes my mind. The Night Elf forest in WoW destroys anything seen in FFXI. Why isn't WoW coming to the 360 instead? :(

I'm glad there's at least one current FFXI player that's happy to see an Xbox360 version of this game come out. The game seriously needs an influx of new(b) blood...if nothing other than to drive the damn prices down.

I have never seen so much hate directed towards a release as I have on the various FFXI forums this past week over this topic. I feel sorry for the new players that join up on the X360...I can see pt's kicking players just based on the console they play on.

WoW IS n00bs MMORPG. FFXI is much harder, but I got bored with it quite fast. Playing Guild Wars now and enjoying every second

Watched the video.

Looks just like the PC version.

Seeing the format shown, I think this is from the PC version.

Its from the PC version /bonk mrbob

This video is fan made, not from SE

Oh and with all the x360's power, i doubt it could even get decent framerate in lower jeuno :lol that place is like china's population inside london

FFXI looks good and nice as it is, you should be damn happy you're getting anything from SE, and an mmorpg to boot.

I've played WoW...pc users can have it IMO.

I'd much rather see Blizzard do a "Blizzard Classic Collection" for the next gen consoles...toss in StarCraft/Broodwars, Warcraft 1-WC3:FT, Diablo 1-Diablo 2 expansion. Sell it at budget price with netplay. they'd make a fortune in Korea alone.

I hate WoW and I hate FFXI, but WoW is MUCH more approachable. It would have been a really good intro for non MMORPG folks on a console. I'm surprised nobody announced a PS3 or 360 version was in the works.

not familiar with ffxi or any mmorpgs and how the community acts (except swg which is funny as hell to read about), so why are the old ffxi players so against new players? youd think it would be a welcome thing

Because FFXI is difficult to play and is the least newbie friendly game I can think of. It doesn't show it on the surface and at first, but as the game evolves it's ridiculously deep and is a perfectionists game at heart.

WoW is entirely different, it's extremely casual and extremely easy by compare.

I think FFXI is a metric ton better than WoW, but Stinkles is right. I'd suggest WoW to new players every time.

FFXI? *yawn* I don't care how good they make it on 360. The game just isn't very good. If any current MMO has to be ported I'd rather see WoW. Futurue MMOs... Probably would like to see Vanguard or D&D Online.

City of Heroes/Villains also falls into the "looks way better than FFXI on its best day" category. FFXI has nice art, but pretty ugly graphics.

Im guessing the 360 version is jsut going to be the PC version running at full speed, just like the PS2 version is the PC version running at lowest speeds.

Ack, seeing that video makes me want to play FFXI again. But I know I wont because is hate the upper levels :|

Yes, WoW is a n00bs game compared to FFXI. It's still a matter of taste though. I dropped FFXI and got WoW.

Even though WoW isn't even close to as deep as FFXI, it was more approachable on a pick-up-and-play basis. You can't join FFXI for an hour and make any progress. You have to play FFXI for 6 or more hours to get anything done. And the word "play" is used loosely- the first 4 hours of that are doing nothing but sitting in Jeuno and waiting for a party. Add to it the completely unreasonable amount of gil farming you'll have to endure just to get the "minimal" equipment for your level ("minimal" once again in quotes because no party will take you seriously unless you have two sniper rings, etc.) and I just couldn't take it anymore.

WoW wouldn't work on consoles, though- it's strictly a mouse and keyboard thing. There's little to no targeting control and everything's point and click rather than menu-driven. Even if the player has a mouse and keyboard, it's extremely uncomfortable to use them on a console.

Regarding why forum people are against the X360 release on FFXI... it's not an issue of the Xbox in general, it's an issume of new players being added to the game. One unique thing FFXI allows is the ability for your current character to change classes. Your character doesn't have one level, it has one level per class. So you change classes, you're back to the lower level areas. Around level 10-15, partying starts to become a requirement. And that's when the game gets immensely difficult. One mistake by one member = entire party dead (and demanding raises from passing White Mages even though their home point is only 20 feet away *grr*). This is actually more true in the lower levels; higher level players have ways of improvising to save their party. Inexperienced players will make these mistakes FAR more times than someone playing through Qufim for their 5th job. This tends to slow people down immensely and hence make them angry (It made me angry :)

FFXI's an amazing game, still. It's just not for everyone. I still get urges every few weeks to play it again. I just don't have the time or patience for it anymore. My character's gone (deleted after 3 months) and I'd more than likely have to buy a new copy of the game to play, anyway.

WoW is a lot more colorful than FFXI, but its not necessarily "better-looking" besides that. Its a difference in art style. I WOULD like for FFXI to look even better but it was held back by the PS2's functionality. That's also why there wasn't a lot of customizability.

And WoW *is* a n00b MMORPG.

"Kill 50 harpies, come back here, and I'll give you a dog biscuit! Don't get distracted by the pretty trees! Good player, good player! Now give me your $14.95 a month!"

Go to the start menu, the City of Heroes folder, uninstall, then visit an optometrist immediately.

5fps? Your PC sucks

Return home to vanadiel is your friend, in June they'll be recovering deleted characters, if you want of course. They also recover your POL account if you ever deleted it.

How far you've played FFXI? Im wondering.

Will Xbox 360 users be able to play with PC/PS2 users?

I heard something about FFXI 360 not using the Xbox Live servers.

Yes.

It uses PlayOnline but they are modifying PlayOnline to work with Xbox Live so you'll still show up on your Friends List, etc.

MMORPG is a shitty shitty genre. The people playing them are typically asshats too. With no lives. Makes you one too.

Having played both FFXI and WoW, if I ever do pick up another MMO, I won't be paying for beyond the free 1 month subscription...

Balance issues, huge amounts of repetition, envy, making friends with douches on the basis of lust after virtual stuff... it's all very... painful stuff.

I've been on more than a few. Unlike some of the goons here, I'd say I have respectable experience with both games. It's a much nicer angle than the trolls here who've hardly a clue of how the opposite game works. :p

I dunno though, I played FFXI for it's wonderful PvE design and WoW for it's wonderful PvP design. As far as my opinion goes, the reverse in both games is fairly lacking. Blizzard and Square can say whatever they want, but it's very obvious WoW was built with team PvP in mind and FFXI with team PvE in mind.

I'd still reccomend WoW first though, overall opinion aside, XI is too hardcore for it's own good. Which, given the franchise, makes very little sense to this day.

You mean a "hack hack hack DIE" free for all?

EQ1 raids have more depth and strategy than high-end WoW raids.

Well, that's the difference between Asian MMO design and western MMO design. If you look at all of the MMOs designed in Asia they are super hardcore grinds - Lineage I/II, FFXI, etc.

End game FFXI blew huge turds...

but even though there was massive tedium, during some points of leveling up, when everything goes right... that's definetly where FFXI's magic lies.

Same goes with the end game I suppose; when everything goes right, you get the mob, you get the kill, it's magic. But about 95-99% of the time things goes wrong and it just ends up been another do nothing day.

No, not fun, annoying. Its not limited to just WoW, though. Endgame is bad in FFXI, too. There's a lot of bullshit over the HNMs. I don't think I'll ever really enjoy high-level, endgame raids and the like in MMORPGs until they improve the combat engines. There might some small pinnacle of a climax at some point during the progression, but in my experience most of it sucks. To me, it seems like its one of those things people think they're supposed to like so they force themselves into participating, the only real excitement coming from the addictive, but destructive inter-group/guild politics that often result. People are addicted to drama and that often comes along with large groups of people supposedly depending on eachother.

From a gameplay point of view, though, I think raids are still crap in most games.

Well, at least none of us are as bad off as my friend's poor roommate who plays Lineage II 24/7 because its his first MMORPG and he doesn't know any better.

I hated FFXI,got up to like level 37 and quit, you couldn't do shit without a group,so much fun waiting forever to find just the right group, otherwise you would just get pwned.

WoW may be more n00b friendly, but it's ten times more fun,IMO.

Yup. Would rock to see WOW on 360. FFXI is nothing to get excited about, really.

I expect FFXI to support voice chat, but only between Xbox 360 players. I can see an option to allow PC/PS2 players to hear the chat and possibly use it too if the demand is there though.

I'd say I'm a little neutral here. Especially since I actively subscribe to WoW and not FFXI. But no, you don't. You stopped at Valkurm in beta, and were still asking me things that wouldn't even be considered basics back then.

I don't mind folks slamming the game. I do it too, it's an incredibly unintuitive timesink. But to slam it for being utter garbage when you likely don't have a clue as to how probably about 99% of the game plays out, especially since it DRASTICLY changes throughout the course and has been patched and expanded to fuck and back, I think that's a little silly.

It's not some Olimario-esque bullshit, people cite that arguement in FFXI for a reason. THAT is why people dislike newbies in FFXI. The game is too fucking hard and they don't tell you jack shit, you're still learning crap at 75.

These other guys I won't call out, cuz well, they're probably douches, and I hate MMO arguements. But I expect better from you, man.

" You stopped at Valkurm in beta, and were still asking me things that wouldn't even be considered basics back then."

That's funny, because I don't really remember actively playing with you. Shouta perhaps. (And I didn't stop at Valkurm, btw)

It's not a difficulty issue so much as it's a poor implementation issue.

Well I'm a level 63 SMN/31 WHM and i'm almost about ready to delete my account on FFXI. I loved the game at first but after I hit 50 the game just went downhill. sitting in my MH with my flag up for 3 days straight without a single invite gets old...and then to be forced to play main heal on mobs that can slaughter me in 3 shots...losing exp while everyone else levels off my deaths.

the magic is gone...it's taken me 4 months to gain 4 levels. I agree with the poster above...mmorpg's are a scam. Only thing keeping me going is I want to see my damn level 70 pet attacks.

Then you stopped in early Jeuno and were going for some ridiculous subjob combination. Trust me, I remember. I played with you a few times and talked with you enough.

I'm not saying this because I'm an elitest, shit, I want the 360 FFXI rev to come out so I CAN play with newbies, I'm saying it because it was the EXACT same for everyone.

While FFXI party seeking is garbage, despite the fact that I dig the puzzle formation gig they start to splice in in the mid-tier, I have no idea how the heck it'd take anyone that long to find a party.

Your best bet is simply to make 'em yourself, or better yet, get a static duo partner THEN make 'em. I've never had a seek or formation time exceed about 30 minutes in FFXI. Even that is too much, but days???

/sea all 1-75 (level range example)

Then just pop a tell. You shouldn't be dying either.

NIN, RDM, WHM, BLM, MNK, THF is pretty much what we always went for past 60. Usually wound up with it too.
