FX Networks has ordered the pilot for Legion, the story of a troubled young man who may be more than human, it was announced today by Nick Grad and Eric Schrier, Presidents of Original Programming, FX Networks and FX Productions.

The pilot introduces the story of David Haller: Since he was a teenager, David has struggled with mental illness. Set in the late 1960s, the series -- which will be produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Marvel Television, with 20th Century Fox handling the physical production -- follows a young Special Agent who learns that a power-hungry woman with extraordinary abilities is working with a clandestine society of millionaires – known as “The Hellfire Club” – to take over the world.

“We are thrilled to partner with Marvel to bring this world to television and build upon the vibrant mythology that has captivated fans for years,” said Madden. “These powerful and dynamic characters are complicated and larger-than-life, the pace and visual imagination are unrelenting, and the story takes place during one of the most explosive eras in recent history. We are so looking forward to working with this incredibly talented team.”

“HELLFIRE is a unique opportunity to be able to go deeper with some of these extraordinary characters, but to also dramatize new characters and give TV viewers a chance to experience this expanded world in an explosive way that everyone will be talking about,” commented Jonathan Davis, President, Creative Affairs, 20th Century Fox Television. “The action at the center of HELLFIRE will be dynamic and will satisfy the rabid fans, but that said, newcomers will surely be addicted too!”

HELLFIRE is a co-production of 20th Century Fox Television and Marvel Television. Evan Katz (“24: Live Another Day”), Manny Coto (“24”), Patrick McKay (“Star Trek 3”) and JD Payne (“Star Trek 3”) are co-creators. McKay and Payne will write the pilot script, based on a story by Katz, Coto, McKay and Payne. Lauren Shuler Donner (“X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “The Wolverine”), Bryan Singer (“X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “X-Men: Apocalypse”), Simon Kinberg (“X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “Fantastic Four”), Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”, “Marvel’s Daredevil”) and Jim Chory (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Marvel’s Daredevil”) will executive-produce the pilot, alongside Katz and Coto, who will serve as showrunners.

This means Marvel and Fox came to an agreement. Marvel had live action X-Men tv rights and Fox wanted them.

I came in to make a joke about Xavier's son, then I saw "Marvel" in the title and whispered "no way, no way".

Of alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll the fucking characters you can use. An obscure villain who's only big moment was causing the Age of Apocalypse and whining about his daddy and mommy.

Yowser.

This feels like something of a 'megaton'....,

Does this mean that Disney and Marvel no longer hate each other or just that they just don't wish any specific harm to befall the other?

Perfect first reply.

Weird, obscure choices for shows. Just do an X-Factor Investigations show for god's sake. It's perfect for TV.

Disney/Marvel had to at the very least give up their X-Men rights. Disney owned the live action tv rights to X-Men, not Fox.

Big question is what did Disney get out of this deal? If anything.

If anything seems like a co-production thing... where Fox does all the work and Marvel gets some of the money
Which is basically their agreement with the movies... Maybe it's a bigger cut this time so Marvels fine with that.

Interesting that neither of the press releases make any mention of X-Men or mutants. Wonder if that means anything.
Yeah, it's probably cheap as heck for Fox to secure the rights to?

I wonder if Kevin Bacon will reprise his role or they going all new cast. I didn't mind him in the movie and The Following is cancelled.

The irony is that meanwhile, there's a MCU TV show where the heroine is looking for mutants inhumans who try to come to terms with their newfound powers in a world that hates and fears them. She'll probably end up training them so they can protect that world from other people like them and bad humans.

Uh... what? Of all the X-Men properties they could pick to make into a tv show, they've gone with Legion? Huh. Bizarre.

You know, i'm not going to rail on it yet because each have a real possibility to be pretty good based on the direction they go. Hellfire Club sounds like the weakest to me so far based on the description though.
