All albums are linked from the Windows 8 Music Deals app (or you can search for them in the Windows Music app, but that's probably more work).

Downloads are DRM-free, in MP3 format. After you "buy" them (e.g. in Win8), look for them in a folder like C:\Users\USERNAME\Music\Xbox Music\Purchases\.
Some Notable/Example Albums
Jessie J - Sweet Talker (Deluxe)
Imagine Dragons - Night Visions (Deluxe)
Eminem - Recovery (Explicit)
U2 - The Joshua Tree (Deluxe, Remastered)
Norah Jones - Come Away With Me
Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed
Kanye West - 808s & Heartbreak
Linkin Park - A Thousand Suns
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - The Heist (Deluxe)
Eagles - The Long Run (Remastered)
Stone Temple Pilots - Purple
Fun - Some Nights
Lady Gaga - The Fame
John Lennon - Imagine (2010 Remaster)
Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream (Deluxe)
Rihanna - Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded
Weezer - Blue Album (Deluxe)
The Weeknd - Trilogy
Katy Perry - The Complete Confection
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin (Remastered)
In addition, they also have 50 box sets of artists for $1.99 each.
Example $1.99 Box Set artists:

The Who, Prince, Grateful Dead, George Harrison, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, John Lennon, Nirvana, Replacements, Talking Heads, Echo & The Bunnymen, Johnny Cash, Lou Reed, Doors, Smiths, Tom Petty, Elton John, Neil Young, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, R.E.M., Velvet Underground, Eagles, Frank Sinatra, John Coltrane, Frank Zappa, Bee Gees, Tony Bennett, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kiss, Radiohead, Police, Black Crowes, Supremes
Pretty good for me so far, already have downloaded eight albums and debating on whether or not to pick up the Prince and/or Bee Gees boxset.

Amazing how foreign the concept of downloading MP3s has become to me after having Spotify for a year.

Man, lots of good albums on there. I'll be downloading and buying some box sets for sure when I get home

edit: why doesn't the music deal app show the tracklist??? Something so simple to include

Well this is a clusterfuck.

Download this app. Sign into this app. Go to Xbox Music. Sign into that. Create an Xbox account. ERROR! Can't create Xbox Account.

Jeez.

If you buy these on a Windows 8 machine, are you able to log in and download them on a different machine? My work laptop is on 8, but my desktop/media machine at home is on 7.

It looks like they're tied to your xbox music account. So I selected them on my Win 8.1 PC and then on my phone, I see that they show up on my xbox music app.

I don't know how you would access them on Windows 7. I don't think there's support for it.
Do you have xbox one or 360? You could access them there.

Is there a list of all albums available? I don't want to install the app on my phone.

You could do the purchase from the PC and then access them on the phone. It seems that the app is not really much more than a pointer to the content in the xbox music store.

One thing I noticed that some of the free albums do not include all of the tracks. You would need to purchase the full album. Examples of this are: Lo & Behold on James Taylor - Sweet Baby James & The Disco Strangler on The Eagles - The Long Run.

Wonder why they do this?

Damn, awesome deal. Some legitimately awesome albums on here. I don't really buy music at all, so I've just been downloading album after album. Will probably download half the catalog.

Agreed. It's a lot of work going through the list, doing a few clicks for the album. I'm halfway going through the list. Will resume again tomorrow.

Once I finish going the free list, I'll look at the $1.99 deals that others have mentioned.

Holy, there is some fantastic music on that list. And then you go over to the box set sale, and you can get The Complete Led Zeppelin for $1.99. $1.99. Wow.

Have to download on the Win 8.x or Win 10 machine.

After that though, the downloads are DRM free MP3s so just drag and drop.

Once again, USA only. Why MS? Why do you treat everyone outside the USA as if they're not important?

Licensing / cost / legal reasons.

Still, if you have a US Xbox Live account and a VPN...

You don't need a VPN just an account that is in US region.

I could transfer my main account to the US to have this on my main account but I am kinda scare that I will lose my money on the account when I migrate. Anyone ever transfer an account and kept the money on their previous region?

This is getting less attention than Guardians of the Galaxy being free on Google Play?

I spent $21.10 and have around 2,000 (320kbps) mp3s ready to download.

(also, this made me glad that I don't use any of the Metro Apps/Features regularly. What a horrible experience.)

I was surprised that my total was around $40. I didn't think I clicked on it that many times. Many of the albums I already have but there were a bunch that are new to me.

Mp3 box sets are the most annoying thing in the world. They are near useless for anyone who actually likes to listen to albums.
