G-Sync is the god-level gaming upgrade.

Dell U2515H came in today. Dark yellow back light bleeding in the bottom right corner, looks like total shit.

I am so fucking sick of these IPS monitors...

I don't know what to do now once I return this one.

Looks worse in the photo obviously, but the bottom right is noticeable in any slightly dark scene.

Was it brand new or refurb? Hoping those high refresh VA monitors hit by like the end of the year..
Not a lot to choose from right now..

Brand spanking new.
Can anyone speak to refurbished monitors quality from woot? High chance on receiving a horrible blb monitor? Thats a fantastic price and I'm in the market for a gsync monitor.

Nevermind, it sold out.
I wouldn't go near the refurbished ones with a 1000ft pole personally. It's hard enough getting a decent build on a brand new one.

I'll probably just end up going with a 24" 1080p GSYNC until the bigger/higher res monitors come with better QA.

I've got an open-box Asus PG279Q coming tomorrow. Amazon Warehouse list every little scratch and dead pixel, so I know it has neither of those, but if it's returned, I'm betting it has some other issue that they just don't list. Packaging is damaged which is why it was knocked down, so I'm hoping I get lucky.

Which 24" 1080p GSYNC should I pickup as a stop-gap until VA?

I really want the BenQ XL2420G but can't find it in Canada. Discontinued?

Maybe AOC G2460PG?

Word of warning - I did this too and got sent a PG278Q in the 279 packaging. I'm guessing people are running a scam by keeping the 279 and sending back a 278, and Amazon don't check close enough to realise it's the wrong (TN-based) model and they just stick it on Warehouse.

Just picked up an LG 34UM88C-P, and even though it is listed on AMDs website and various retailers as having 75HZ Freesync, I am maxing at 60HZ.... This is super disappointing. Is it worth going through the hassle to send it back and find a monitor with 75Hz? Or is there a way to get 75Hz out of this monitor?

Love my AOC G2460PG. Took a while to get the colours right, but it looks fantastic and is one of the cheaper (if not, the cheapest) g-sync monitors out there. Aesthetically I'm not over the moon about the green stripe, but that's hardly anything to get worked up about.

Got one last week from Amazon Warehouse and it has a stuck pixel, was not impressed as I chose one that was listed as pristine with damaged packaging so be aware there might be other issues with it.

Nice. I just ordered one from Newegg. I really hope to keep this one...

Did you have to mess around with colour profiles (I hate using these) to get the colours right? Or just OSD? Mind posting your settings?

Everything was done through the OSD. Here are my settings:

Contrast 55
Brightness 100
Gamma 1
Overdrive Light

R 57
G 60
B 62

I don't mind burning my eyeballs out so these settings work great for me. Everything is very colourful and vibrant.

I arrived at these settings using this site's calbration as a base: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/aoc-g2460pg-g-sync-monitor,4005-3.html I found colours looked too muted though, which is why I dialed up the contrast. Gamma 2 I found to be too washed out. And I prefer my monitor to be a bit colder than warm, so I bumped up the blue by 1.

I have a BenQ XL2420G I picked up in the fall. I really do love this gsync tech. My eyeballs would bleed a little with heavy screen tearing games (Shadow of Mordor I'm looking at you). The monitor was expensive but after my korean 1440p IPS broke I went back down to 1080p and am frankly happy with it. Not all games could scale to 1440p and keep up a solid framerate. 1080p gsync @ 144 is a blessing. PC GAMING!!!!!!!!

Thanks I'll check this out!

Well cock, I thought if they listed every imperfection they would have at least checked it. Oh well, I'll annoy them until they send someone to pick it up if it's not up to scratch when it comes.

My Asus PG279Q arrived and it looks like I won the panel lottery. No dead pixles, no noticable bleed. Just amazing. Stunning.

So my monitor came eight the wrong power lead and I can't test it right now. So tempted to just buy another one and return whichever is the worst panel as I doubt a multi voltage adaptor will work and I can't find a replacement in the UK.

Aaaand my PG279Q has developed a dead pixel less than half a year in. Just the one mind, not enough to get any kind of support from Asus.

Thought I'd won the panel lottery too. Bah!

Check for backlight-bleed, every PG279Q has it, but some I've seen are ridiculous.

The 34UM has an official freesync Range of 48-60hz? At least thats what it says on the US LG product page.

http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-34UM88C-P-ultrawide-monitor

The 34UC88/98 on the other hand have an official Range of 48-75HZ, this is as well on the LG US Homepage.

I know the lower limit can be modified, i don't know if your panel can be overclocked to 75Hz though.

I just noticed that streams in the Netflix Win 10 app stutter in fullscreen on my Gsync monitor but not on my non-Gsync secondary one. Also happens when I turn off every Gsync option in the Nvidia Profile Inspector.
Can anyone else confirm?

Try only turn off G-Sync for borderless window?

Just a quick question :

Are G-sync laptop worth the price ?

Does the laptop version of G-sync actually work well ?

Because since laptops aren't really upgradable, it woud "extend" tha laptop's life by making playing between 30-60 fps comfortable.

So funny story, I went out last night and got drunk to the point where I don't remember coming home. When I took delivery, I was balancing on that line of hungover and still being drunk. Now that I've had a nap, I discovered the power lead was in the box all along...

Anyway! Panel looks great from backlight bleed and pixels, clocked up to 165Hz fine too. Its a bright day and there's only Venetian blinds in that took so its still too bright a day to say the backlight perfectly finez but I'll look tonight.

Is G-sync worth it on latest spec 1080GTX builds? What with their fastsync and theoretically not frame dipping since only running 1440p.

Definitely worth it still. FastSync is only really for generally hitting 2-3 times above your refresh rate consistently, which I can only do that on one game I play frequently (CSGO).

I also don't experience 144fps+ constantly on some games with everything maxed.

I'm kind of not so impressed with G-Sync. I bought the Acer 27" 144hz IPS and I can barely notice a difference. Yeah, when I move windows around inside of Windows, they're more smooth, but I don't think I'd ever consider this a "godly" upgrade and have a bit of buyers remorse. I'm glad I didn't drop $1300 on a 34" with G-Sync like I had originally planned to do.

While G-Sync is great, I think the reason it impresses people is because typically they go from 60hz to a 144hz+ G-sync monitor, and the real game changer is the high refresh rate. If I turn G-Sync off and play something in borderless window or cap framerates properly with Rivatuner, it tends to be a nearly identical experience for the most part.

G-sync just takes out a lot of the tinkering or fiddling with v-sync issues in games so it's an exceptionally nice thing to have alongside a high refresh rate, which is the real "god-level" gaming upgrade imo.

An Anandtech editor said the same thing as well - when you already have a 144Hz display, G-Sync is more of a cherry on top.

One final topic to address is something that has become more noticeable to me over the past few months. While G-SYNC/FreeSync can make a big difference when frame rates are in the 40~75 FPS range, as you go beyond that point the benefits are a lot less clear. Take the 144Hz ASUS ROG Swift as an example. Even with G-SYNC disabled, the 144Hz refresh rate makes tearing rather difficult to spot, at least in my experience. Considering pixel response times for LCDs are not instantaneous and combine that with the way our human eyes and brain process the world and for all the hype I still think having high refresh rates with VSYNC disabled gets you 98% of the way to the goal of smooth gaming with no noticeable visual artifacts (at least for those of us without superhuman eyesight).

I went from 60Hz to 144 + Gsync, I wasn't sure what I was expecting, but it really isn't that noticable. I play mostly Overwatch and Dota2. :|

What's the benefit of borderless window vs full screen?
