Ga. bride-to-be fabricated kidnap tale

They were talking about this story all last week on the radio and everyone was calling in claiming that the fiance had killed this lady. Just think if she had been kidnapped and killed by a stranger, this guy would have been fucked up.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - A Georgia bride-to-be who vanished just days before her wedding turned up in New Mexico and fabricated a tale of abduction before admitting Saturday that she had gotten cold feet and “needed some time alone,” police said.

Jennifer Wilbanks, 32, was in police custody more than 1,420 miles from her home on what was supposed to be her wedding day.

“It turns out that Miss Wilbanks basically felt the pressure of this large wedding and could not handle it,” said Randy Belcher, the police chief in Duluth, Ga., the Atlanta suburb where Wilbanks lives with her fiance. He said there would be no criminal charges.

Wilbanks, whose disappearance set off a nationwide hunt, called her fiance, John Mason, from a pay phone late Friday and told him that she had been kidnapped while jogging three days before, authorities said. Her family rejoiced that she was safe, telling reporters that the media coverage apparently got to the kidnappers.

But Wilbanks soon recanted, according to police.

Ray Schultz, chief of police in Albuquerque, said Wilbanks “had become scared and concerned about her impending marriage and decided she needed some time alone.” He said she traveled to Las Vegas by bus before going to Albuquerque.

“She’s obviously very concerned about the stress that she’s been through, the stress that’s been placed on her family,” he said. “She is very upset.”

'Cold feet'
The mood outside Wilbanks’ home went from jubilant to somber after Wilbanks changed her story. Family members ducked inside and the blinds were drawn, but friends expressed relief that Wilbanks was safe.

“Having cold feet is a joy compared to what the alternative might have been,” friend Melinda Larson, who had planned to attend the wedding, told CNN.

The wedding was going to be a huge bash. The couple had mailed 600 invitations, and the ceremony was to feature 14 bridesmaids and 14 groomsmen.

Wilbanks’ uncle, Mike Satterfield, thanked people who had helped in the search and supported the family.

“Jennifer had some issues the family was not aware of. We’re looking forward to loving her and talking to her about these issues,” he said.

Mason and Wilbanks’ family planned to fly to Albuquerque later Saturday.

Wilbanks, who is a nurse, was tired and thirsty, but was not complaining of any injuries Saturday, officials said. Her hair, which was long in pictures released by her family, was shoulder-length.

Search consumed tight-knit town
Just hours before Wilbanks called her fiance, police in Duluth said they had no solid leads in the case and began dismantling a search center. Relatives offered a $100,000 reward for information and were planning a prayer vigil.

The hunt for Wilbanks had consumed Duluth, a tight-knit town. Her picture and newspaper articles about her disappearance were on telephone poles and shop windows. Police had also seized three computers from the home she shared with Mason.

Mason had become a target of suspicion and agreed to a private polygraph test, which Wilbanks’ family said he passed. He had been negotiating with authorities for another test.

“That’s been the hardest part for me,” Mason said after Wilbanks called from Albuquerque. “It gives you a feeling like you can’t walk outside your home.”

Larson, a friend of both Mason and Wilbanks, said she thought the bride-to-be had no idea her disappearance would draw so much attention.

“Sometimes things take on a life of their own, just like weddings,” she said.

Police: Who are they?
Wilbanks: STFU!

It's not mentioned in the article quoted here, but she claimed a hispanic man kidnapped her initially.

I wonder if O'Reilly will apologize for making statements concerning the fiance's involvement in her disappearance. Apparently he said something along the lines of, "One need only to look to the fiance in cases like this - look at Scott Peterson."

Of course, O'Reilly apologizing is one of those things that would set off a massive quantum singularity right outside the Earth's atmosphere.

Oh, well, so much for that coupling. Something tells me that even if they are stupid enough to continue, it won't last long

:lol

wtf is this getting so much airtime on the cable news networks? Is it just me or is this a really stupid, uninteresting story? The news channels are treating this like its 9/11 or somethign, with round the clock coverage, interviewing doctors. God the people that run the cable news channels are such drama whores.

Has anyone looked at her pictures from different angles and notice that she looks like she's staring at you? Creepy. The groom should have ran off.

She is a first rate asshole though and should foot the bill for her search.

I think she should be punished, for what she put her family through, her fiance(I'm sure there were people there ready to fry him) all the man hrs spent, hell they had divers searching the water. Then she said she had no clue all this was going to happen, you think you can just disappear days before your wedding day and nothing was going to happen. She is an immature little girl who could not tell one person she did not want to get married. People get cold feet all the time, but they do not call the police from another state saying they were kidnapped, She gives new meaning to the word attention whore. The husband got lucky, he is the true victim here. Noway should she get a book or tv deal, she should be sued for the man hrs wasted.

Would you want to marry someone who is clearly mentally ill?

Woman - Oh no! I've gained so much weight! How will I tell my husband? I can't! *Throws self down flight of stairs to distract attention from her fat*

I hope criminal charges are filed eventually. This is ridiculous, and I hope this crap about not filing any is just standard procedure at this point in the process. Not following through with the law won't do anything to discourage these kinds of actions. Her disappearance and claimed kidnapping not only affected her family, but the whole fucking town shutdown and tried to find her or discover clues, not to mention the costs of the police search and abuse of the 911 service.

speaking of gaining weight, I think that girl in your avatar could use an extra 5 or 10 pound, maybe. :/

Yeah they should get her for the money she cost the city and state. And white guys could you please tell your white women to stop falsely blaming minorities for their fuckups. I mean I know you all love to get the lynch mob out and all but honestly these things aren't productive.

You know, why is it always the white women that come up with these stories and blame them on minorities?

At least hispanic women just make up stories about finding fingers in Wendy's Chili.

Shit like this is why I rarely bother with the news...they pick and choose these disappearance/kidnap/murder stories based on some arbitary process, then ram it down everybody's throats until it starts pushing out your ass crack. Then when it's revealed to be nothing but bullshit, the media asks how someone could've done such a thing instead of looking in the mirror and asking how they could be so fucking stupid.

They are now saying she bought the tickets on the 19th, I think she is going to be facing felony charges.

Other than filing a false report nothing she did was illegal. The authorities have already said they don't plan to charge her with anything. Sucks but there is really nothing they can do to her other than charge her with filing a false report which is just a step above a trafic violation. Maybe a 500 dollar fine max.

What this woman did was just wrong, period. There is no excuse for this.
If you don't love the guy, tell him the wedding is off. Don't resort to this.

And what's up with her eyes in every picture? She looks kind of crazy if you ask me.
Well, her actions have already proven that, but even before we knew what really
happened I figured there was something up with her. She looks really paranoid
and detached.

Actually it was the police chief who said that.... it is not his choice, it is District Attorney Danny Porter, and he was on Fox News saying that he wants the review police statements. He is Leaning towards pressing charges. I think there will for sure be a civil case after this town gets the budget and figures out how far they are over budget with all the overtime they have to pay.Not only where cops working overtime, but they had to pay people to cover the other shifts.

I'm hoping that the DA does go ahead and press charges or at least send her the bill for all the man hours expended on trying to find her crazy ass.

I'm thinking big time lesbo confession.
